I'm looking to pick up a complete copy of Sin and Punishment for the N64. However, i'm not really sure what a fair price is...and as imports can get kind of expensive I don't want to shoot myself in the foot.

Also, is the N64 version of Bangai-O the same as the Dreamcast one?

I passed on a lot of $50-ish Sin and Punishments and got a nice complete one for $33 shipped on an Ebay auction, so I think persistent patience helps with it. They turn up fairly frequently.
As I recall, I think I read a few people who felt the N64 version of Bakuretsu Muteki Bangioh was the better version. Then again, that might have been what the guy who sold me his said! LOL I coughed up $50 for that one.
Good luck!

They aere similar, but not the exact same.

The Dreamcast game has more detail.

The N64 version has a different scoring system which seems to be the better of the two. I personally like the N64 version better, but that's me.

20 or less on yahoo japan

So, anyone got a hookup on Yahoo Japan ;)

It would likely be cheaper on eBay. Using a middleman for Japan Yahoo usually adds at least $20 to the price. Generally, you have to pay a money transfer fee (that's how just about everything on Japan Yahoo is paid for), shipping costs for the item twice (once nationally to the middleman, then internationally from the middleman to you), and then finally whatever fee that the middleman himself is asking for his services.

If you can find a friend in Japan who will do it without asking for anything for him/herself then it might be a good deal, but I personally haven't been that fortunate. I only use Japan Yahoo for rare, expensive items where the price difference between Yahoo and eBay is significant (or it just doesn't show up on eBay at all).

There have been points in which Bangai-O for N64 has gone for nearly $100. It wasn't produced in extremely high quantities, but the price seems to fluctuate depending on the demand at the moment. A lot of people see it and think "OMG! Treasure! R@RE! Must buy!" I've seen it sold for under $20 at times.

Rule of importing on eBay: Hold out for a better price! Not sure how well that applies with ultra-desireable titles (MSX Konami games like MG2 or SD Snatcher for instance), but for the N64 stuff it's a pretty good rule.

Sin & Punishment is ridiculously cheap in Japan, around 2000 yen on average. Don't bother paying much more than 20-30 bucks if you can help it, it's really not worth much more.

Quality-wise I'd say it is. :P

You can usually pick up a sealed copy on eBay for roughly £40, so I would say between £25 and £35 for a normal copy is fair here in teh UK

There's no such thing as a sealed N64 import. Nearly all games that came in cardboard boxes in Japan have no plastic on them.

Some individual stores may feel like sealing them in plastic, though, just for added protection or to put stickers on. Generally, though, I only see that with used games.

I've gotten some in loose-fitting (but with good straight seals) plastic baggies; both were new. I've no idea if those were added by a store.

I've gotten those too. Sometimes stores will put them on new games, especially if they're old games that just happened to never be sold or used.

I just won a Sin and Punishment auction on ebay for $25 (+$5 S&H). It was listed as with the box and various miscellaneous papers (warranty stuffs maybe?), but missing the manual. That was the opening bid price and mine was the only bid.

It was a one-day auction, though, with Paypal as the only payment auction, and the seller was demanding payment within two days. So it probably put some people off from bidding and then slid right under some high-rollers' radars.

As for the other two copies I was watching, one sold for $32 + $5 S&H (bare cart), and there's a complete copy holding at $41.28 + $3.50 S&H with 1 day 10 hours left to go.

So is it seasoned collectors or clueless n00bs that bid these things way up?

OMG TREASURE RARE BID HIGH WOOOOOO!

I picked mine up off of usenet for about $30 shipped from a guy in Toronto. It's easily worth the $50 it goes for on eBay...it's THAT good.

You're not losing money on it at $50....you can always resell it and break even or close to it. Higher than that though....I'd pass.

Everyone's missing the point of an N64 Bangaio. Because Bangaio was designed for the system, it's controls are twice as good. The play control in the DC version of Bangaio is hideously awkward.

I've never played the N64 version, but the DC version never gave me any serious control problems. Don't forget, you can choose between two different control configurations on the DC version- maybe you should try using the other one.

Yeah--I definitely preferred the "Robotron" style control scheme.
