And you thought that the Dreamcast was the only Sega system that was never going to die. Well think again!

I suppose it has been a question mark for quite a while, but Beggar Prince is indeed a serious project of Super Fighter Team. C&E, Inc. was kind enough to grant us exclusive permission to handle the job, and as such we've made it a point to really put our hearts into it.

The game script was translated from Chinese to English, most of it then rewritten to give the game a more understandable, exciting, and emotional plot. The introduction and title screen graphics have been changed to reflect the English title of the game. As I simply refuse to release buggy or otherwise flawed software, I hired a few Genesis programming veterans to patch and/or remove the bugs that C&E allowed the game to ship with in Taiwan due to a rushed release schedule. Overall, I am very proud of the work we have done and I believe the Genesis-Megadrive community will appreciate all of the hard work that has gone into the translation and additional preparation of this game.

Beggar Prince will be the first American cartridge release of a Sega Genesis game in many years. An expansive RPG, the game is 4MB in size and features four save game slots (32KB battery-backed SRAM). While pricing details and exact release date are not yet decided, this game is definitely a "go", with the backing of the original company (C&E, Inc.) standing behind our efforts. OlderGames will be handling the publishing and sale of the completed product.

Eight screenshots of the game in action are now available, as of today, for viewing from this website. There will be many more pictures, information, etc. on the website within a short time. Since the game is so close to official release, I feel that now is a good time to get the ball rolling.

It is my sincere hope that this project will inspire more folks to give the Sega Genesis-Megadrive some additional attention, especially in the way of as-of-yet untranslated RPG adventures. There are many Taiwan-produced games of this genre waiting for a good, solid English release. More often than not, the companies that create these Taiwanese games are more than happy to help Westerners bring them to a larger audience.

Thanks for your support! Keep an eye on this page for the most updated news about the game and its upcoming release!

Yeah, I saw that on SMS Power yesterday.
Great news, I'll have to pick one up eventually. I've already got a stack of unplayed RPGs though, so I'll wait to see the price first - cartridge manufacture has got to be a lot more hassle & costly than CDs.

Hmm...good graphics for a MD game!

Whoa... so would that release be in the same catagory as say. Bootleg copies of Seiken Densetsu 3 with the english translation patch, or an offical licensed Sega release or is it more of a gray area like the nes color dream games?

Either way definately buying a copy. (:

Read the press release, there's your answer.

It's got the approval & support of the original developers, so it's no boot but won't be licensed by Sega. I guess it's as "official" as the unlicensed Accolade/Ballistic games ;)

I did. Looks like a translation bootleg type dealy but has the backing of the actual developer (but not Sega, not that as an asian developed title it ever had Sega's thumbs up). I'm guessing the color dreams example but wanted to know what someone else thought. But thanks for the totally useless suggestion. ;)

"C&E, Inc. was kind enough to grant us exclusive permission to handle the job" means nothing other than "This isn't a bootleg." I don't know why you'd think otherwise.

This is awesome. I've never heard of anything like this happening before. Anyone have even the slightest idea what they would charge? How much have other games like this been sold for?

Because "New Beggar Prince" was an unlicensed Mega Drive game.

I already started a thread on this topic:

Can an admin link these two threads together?

The aspects that set this apart from the rest are:
1. Approval of original Asian developer.
2. Uses original source code from the original Asian developer.
3. Will include bug fixes, in addition to a full translation.
4. Will be minted to labeled carts!
5. Will be officially and legally sold as an unlicensed Sega Genesis game.

That is correct. OlderGames will once again be bringing
a new title out and this time ... boy... what a game. I can
tell you first-hand that this game will be one of the more
notable things to come out in a long time.

Not only is this a genesis cart but it is also a genesis RPG!
I mean... a brand new RPG re-coded and translated from
the ground up! I'm very happy to be a part of this project.

Our target is going to be both CGE 2K5 and VGEXPO
in Dallas but we are still working out the final order
details for the cartridge production numbers and
lining all our ducks in a row.

The release price is going to be pre-set @ $40US
which, with enough sales should cover the professional
artwork costs for the various SuperFighter ports we
have been working with Death Adder on and fund
his own internal development efforts on "other secret
projects" :D

It's good to see you guys getting excited about this
new release. We are simply overjoyed and just as
enthusiastic about this as you guys are. As usual
you can count on OlderGames to support classic
consoles by bringing out new products for all of
us to enjoy.

Keep checking both our website and the official
site for upcoming announcements and info:
