Another trivial mystery I'd like cleared up:

Are Al Nilsen and Spencer Nilsen related?
They both worked at Sega during the same period (Al first, then Spencer), both had fancypants jobs, and Spencer Nilsen wasn't a particularly gifted composer.

Was this a coincidence, or a bit of *** that resulted in the Sonic CD soundtrack being replaced to nearly universal disdain?

The word you are looking for is nepotism. And I have no idea if they are related. Sorry.

Spencer's last name is written "Nielson," if I'm not mistaken, so there's probably no relation between the two.

No, it's definitely "Nilsen".

He has some of his soundtracks available on CD, so it's pretty easy to verify.

I see his name spelled that way everywhere, but it seems you're right.

Yes. I am the "real" Al Nilsen. Formerly of Sega, and not related to Spencer.
