Man, if the price wasnt that high I would LOVE to hang this in my "room of doom to be". Awesome stuff! (reminds me of that big NES art sale they had on eBay a few months ago)...

This just gave me a great idea. Just extract the original bitmaps of these sprites, scale them up, trace the pattern onto a canvas, and then paint it. I think it would look best done on classical oil paints, on traditional canvas, with a really old fashioned wooden frame. Retro game meets even more retro art :)

Hm... those are some pretty high starting bids. If I were to sell some of mine, I'd probably start the bidding at the cost of the materials, and let the bidders decide how much my time is worth.
Pixel art seems to be the 'in thing' right now though... I've been doing some with beads and cross stitch, though not as much lately.
It requires about 1% visual talent, and 99% patience. http://www.oddigy.com has some of the beadsprites I've made. Cross stitch is something I'm kind of new to, but I could do whole scenes if I were patient enough.

Just checked out the seller's feedback. The last sale of ANYTHING was on Sep-08-04. You cant even access the auction to see if it was for NES pixelated art. I wonder if these will be relisted for much cheaper when/if they dont sell

Eh... not impressed with the paintings.
But the crossstitch sprites on the other hand are a nifty idea! (:

Thank you very much. :) I have actually never considered doing paintings...
Part of the reason I moved to cross stitch from beadsprites is that the colors are much less limited. There are close to 500 colors of DMC embroidery floss, I think. I bought a set almost exactly like
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41235&item=8199244790
that one (sorry, board chokes on my html for some reason)
a few months back. I'm a palette-fetishist. I like having more colors than I need, to make sure everything is exactly as it should be.
I'm not sure how I'd do that with paints unless I had a color mixing chart or something... gotta have all the right colors.
I was thinking about that earlier though - if you had sponges that were square-shaped, it wouldn't take much time at all to crank out some pretty rad pixel-art. Man, I can't wait until my bf and I own a home instead of renting an apartment... just imagining the murals I could make on the walls, hee hee. :D

To quote Clueless... It's a "Monet" - Looks great from a distance, but not when you get up close...
I prefer the ones which were painted onto a brick wall...
