Broken Sword (GBA) Appreciation Thread

I just picked up and started playing this game a couple of days ago without knowing ANYTHING about the game. I was blown away!!!

So far the story has been great, the dialogue very witty and actually risqué (yes on GBA!!!), the animation rather smooth and well-done but the whole atmosphere the game creates is awesome. I'm just waiting for the story to turn into a Da Vinci Code like adventure.

Anyone else who played and care to share their views? Please no spoilers! :)

Just in case you didn't know, this game was released first on the PC. In case you like looking at a bigger screen get the PC version although you will need an older OS to play it correctly (WIN 3.1/95). I am pretty sure it can also be run on XP/2000 as well. It is one of the better adventure games.

I'm such a moron. I just looked through my boxes of PC games and I actually have Broken Sword 2 but have yet to play it.

Heheh. Have fun while you're at it, because once it's over... it's pretty much over (like most games of the genre).

I have some good memories of this game. It's a nice little adventure... I remember playing around autumntime. The Pennsylvania air was sharp and cold, while leaves gathered into mounds of flame on the brick sidewalks; through my eyes, the world around me perfectly matched the game's opening setting.

Haha, thanks for no spoilers! But I agree, the opening with the main character sitting at a Paris café juts sucked me in and as I mentioned the dialogue is ver ywell written!

I've only quickly tried the GBA version, but I couldn't really play it, the PC version is so much better with the animated cutscenes :)

I've been playing the PSX version today, I bought a grip controller and was looking for a game that didn't actually suck with it. Looks like point and clicks are ideal. Anyway I got to the hotel and died because I was a retard and didn't free up some memory card room before starting the game. So I have to start all over again.

I tried the GBA version a couple years agao but found the resolution too small too make out the things I was expected to click on.

And the PS2. I used to have that one. It was a very good game but got boring the second time round.
I like point and click games. The first one I had was The Curse of Monkey Island. If they'd kept those graphics in Escape from Monkey Island I would have got it.

Can anyone suggest any other point and click games?

Beneath a Steel Sky and The Dig are games I would recommend, both with a more "serious" story.

I really enjoyed the first two Broken Sword games. They're some of my favorite adventure games, mainly because I like the dry sort of humor in them. I even played the first on GBA, too, and it didn't really lessen it for me. In fact, I enjoyed the simplified interface. I also have it on Playstation.

I have but haven't been able to play the third one because my Xbox crapped out.

Nightshade for NES

People love the Sierra games, but I haven't been able to play much on that side.

Broken Sword makes for a great GBA game, and the dialogue is quite funny and filled with really sly innuendos.

Syberia is a good point and click on Xbox. I would guess its available for PC as well. Went through a point and click phase a few years ago and played piles of good ones for the Sega CD and 3DO. Just whatever you do, don't play Hell.

If you like the GBA version, you should probably get the PS1 version instead. The PS1 has spoken dialogue and the GBA version has a few glitches in it, that if you do certain events in the wrong order, you can't finish it. Aside from the killer load times on the XBOX version, it was probably my favorite of the 3 games so far.

Unfortunately, it only came out in Europe for the PS2 not in the states. :(

The PC version has mouse support - and who wants to play an point and klick adventure with a gamepad?
BTW: The GBA version has one nasty bug where you can be stuck in the game and have to restart :(
