Forgive me if this has already been explored, but the more I looked at the PS3 controller, the more I knew that I recognized its design from somewhere. Tell me this Barracuda controller for the PS1 doesn’t remind you of something.

From what I remember of the Barracuda, it was a piece of crap that felt uncomfortable as hell to hold. The pad itself was easy on the thumb, but it was easy to get hand-cramps from the horrible handle design. Is the PS3 controller doomed to the same fate? I'm guessing the size of the PS3 controller will be smaller than the Barracuda (which was freakin' huge!) which would alleviate most of the hand strain.

I'll believe that controller when I see it in stores.

The Playstation controller is damn near perfect for my hands. Hopefully Sony will listen to the masses and bring out a decent controller closer to the old ones than the boomerang one.

They should name it the Wallaby, cause you could go to Australia and bag yourself a little kangaroo with that bastard.

Why can't they switch the left analog stick and D-pad while they're at it? I play RPG's more than anything else, and love my d-pad, but come on. The analog stick has pretty much taken over, move it where it belongs.

No matter how you slice it, they both look like crap and probably feel like it too.

I can't imagine Sony would be that stupid to make a controller that ugly and difficult-looking to use.

I refuse to believe it. It looks too gimmicky and mid-90's-ish.

it wont be as bad as the barracuda, because that controller had its buttons looking 'up' away from the controller, whereas the ps3 has them lower and looking towards you.

regardless it doesnt look very appealing, i prefer the ps1/ps2 dual shocks above all, even with the dpad being crappy, everything else on the controller is the best. i hope they revert back to it, but make it pure white or something...

That old 'cuda looks like a smooth-edged B2 bomber (check the "fuselage" in the middle). Hmm...not quite a dead ringer.

Ding Dong, the DualShock's dead. And I'm glad. It was a pain in the ass to hold and should be crushed to a fine powder.

Amen. I have giant gorilla hands and they always cramp-up after a half hour of playing with a Dual Shock. They need to be bulkier, but I don't know about that "boomerang" design though. Make it like the Controller S and I'll be happy.

I was never a true ps fan. I enjoyed both consoles but I never liked the loading time. My patience is nil. I didn't have the privledge of having the dev kit either with the extra memory.
As far as controllors, that is very gaudy. I like the smaller compacted models out there better.

My friend actually has one of these PS1 controllers. THEY SUCK.

Hopefully that isnt the final design for it, or I'll be real pissed.

@ Norkus and Jasoco: Screw you guys, I want my Dual Shock :) I don't grip it with my outer fingers...I don't think big people are really supposed to. If you're cramping up, you probably are holding it tightly instead of loosely. Like shootin' clay pigeons...don't grip the end of you gun tightly. Well, that's just a guess.

I hold the Dual Shock with only the index and middle fingers (thumbs on top, of course). Never had a comfort problem.

The thing *I* don't like about it is that the head...er, knob on the joystick is too thin. Needs to be thicker so you don't put a dent into your finger.

I remember this being discussed like the hour it was unveiled. So yes, someone beat you to it, but it looks like it sparked some fresh conversation (even if the topic is stale).

It was very often said by Sony that this is a prototype, and in all likelihood the final design of the controller will change.

We'll never get this controller.

correct me if I'm wrong bout some sony spokesman said(a few weeks ago) that they don't want to change it.

and why the hell is it so small and why wears this dude glothes when touching it?
:hmm:

I'm pretty sure I know how to hold a Dual Shock properly. I think Jasoco does too. It's not like I'm trying to crush the thing to death, I just have huge hands (I'm 6'7"). It doesn't feel comfortable no matter how I hold it. It's simply too small for me.

I use a Logitech controller whenever I play PS2 and I have no problems with that. It's much wider and thicker than the Dual Shock, so my hands never cramp on it.

im going to have to agree with keeping the dual shock and moving the analog stick to where the d-pad is right now. that would perfect.

DualShock kicks ass. I think that and the Dreamcast controller might be my faves. Recently I played around with the XBOX controller and it really reminds me of the Dreamcast one...seems very close, so that's a nice one also.

The dualshock is one of the worst controllers ever. The quality of the analog sticks alone should be enough to banish it from existence, not to mention their horrid placement.

The PS3 needs triggers. Triggers are essential to so many games nowadays and if it can't sport triggers, theres a good chance I wouldn't purchase it if it werent for all the RPG's. As for the design of the current dualshock, the shoulder buttons are absolutely horrid. The Logitech Wireless controller is an infinitely better controller and I really need to pick one up.

I think it has the better D-pad than Nintendo's of the past two generations and the analog stick is still within good reach. The Gamecube control "feels" alright but the button placement is horrible as well as everything else. :( Feels comfortable, works bad.

Always have supported the dual shock and always will. It's probably my favorite first party controller ever. I don't understand, nor will I ever, why the analog stick placement is such an issue. I have medium sized hands, so maybe that's it. The d-pad is great, perfectly accurate for 2-d fighters and you're fingers won't blister like they would on the Dreamcast.

This new PS3 thing though... my god, what a mess.

Hmm, I'm 6'3" or 4", doubt there should be much difference :) I'll take another look at the thing when I get home this evening...
