suppose all our favorite themes and scores had been released as just regular music, and not associated with the games they were involved with. do you think any of them would have been successful on normal radio and television venues?

Maybe eyes on you from FF8

I think that's one of the only actual SONGS. Everything else is really just videogame music, aka background music. It might have made it to some elevators, thats about it.

Normal American pop radio? Definitely not. Solely because the music doesn't have lyrics. Modern classical radio? Definitely. Some stations already play select tracks.

As long as Americans are closed-minded and don't see video game music as "real" music, it's not going to be accepted by the mainstream. However, Japan doesn't believe this so much, so that's why you'll see people like Koji Hayama on the top of the pop charts.

I just feel bad for the musicians. When and if they put out an original album, they're respected, but as soon as they start making music for games, they're no longer making "real" music. :(

definately not. the only reason the songs sell or get some radio play is because they are from popular games or by popular composers (who got popular by making score to popular games).

what if what if. we'll never know. but i listen to scores from FF7 and others not because im a music nut (if i was im sure there are better songs out there) but because it means something, and bring back memories of play the game, and what you felt the first time.

just my 2 pesos.

Eyes On You is a wicked track! I also lik the "Fithos, Lusec" one too...

I think a few songs from Parappa or Vib Ribbon could have made it big... Perhaps. They are really catchy - Especially the driving instructor song from Parappa. Gitaroo Man also has a few decent ones.

But you can't beat DDR for classics! There's so many great tunes in the countless DDR games - Theres a few trance tracks in Dancing Stage Party Edition which I think could've been great Ibiza tunes!

Tales of Phantasia on the Super Famicom, hmm?? We've had vocals in a number of songs before and since (Woo's song from the original King of the Monsters, for example).

Elevator music? Blasphemy. Though the elevator music in Goldeneye was rather catchy :)
