View Full Version : How do you guys find stuff on weekdays?

Ok, so I see the "weekday finds" threads each week, but I ask myself, WHERE ARE THESE GUYS FINDING THESE? All the flea markets in my area are only open Friday - Sunday, and I never see yardsales during a weekday. Is the part of the world I am in just weird? I mean, there aren't any good game stores like gamecrazy or EB, just Gamestop. The thrifting stores, they just completely suck!

Help a Moon Patrol out, shed a little light on what im doing wrong to find stuff O_O

im assuming thrift/mom and pop gamestore/large chain gamestores that people check out during their lunch break that are in the area.

personally i check cheapassgamer each mornign to see what deals are that morning and take a walk to my local game stores during my lunch break.

Two words: Thrift stores.

Pantechnicon's Theory of Septurnal Game Distribution* states the following:

1. Garage sales and flea markets are the best bets on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
2. What is not sold at garage sales on weekends is taken to the thrifts late on Saturdays and Sundays.
3. Allow one day (Monday) for the new inventory to be sorted, priced and put on the sales floor, ergo:
4. Thrift stores are the best bets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays...sometimes Thursdays.
5. Thursdays and Fridays are when the flea dealers clean out the detritus from the thrifts for sale at the fleas on the upcoming weekend.
6. Garage sales begin again on Friday and the whole cycle repeats itself at step one.

* - SGD Theory does not take pawn shops into account. Their relative permanence of inventory and location, plus their insane prices disqualify them from being worthy of any real scientific scrutiny.

Never thought of it like that. I should find some places near me.

Most of the time a 2nd hand store or site, gameshop or in the mail from a eBay win.

There's actually a flea market near me that's open tuesdays and saturdays.

Now someone tell me this: why are there at least twice as many vendors set up to sell stuff on tuesdays than on saturdays?! I can't figure it out.

How do you guys find stuff on weekdays?

I look :D

Really, thats the key. You have to keep your gaming radar finely tuned and keep an eye out for yard sales, store sales and weekday things..

Weekday = 5/7 of the days.. thats a lot of opprotunites to "find".

I've also noticed that a lot of "finds" are really "what the mailman brought me today", which aren't really finds in the true sense, but are certainly likely to occur during the week.

Im awesome. And that really is the key to finding games. That and the fact that I seem to be the only one in this city who collects games and have unlimited acess to thousands of untapped thrift stores and 2 flea markets that are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. And lastly EB games in my area seem to only stock rare games. I shit you not, most of the games are between 4-5 on the dp guide and they have a tournament fighters which im goign to pick up today for 5 bucks. wooooooooooooo GO ME.

Btw im sorry you cant find games during the week.

Thank God the summer is here, because having every waking moment of my life ravenously consumed by school and homework, hunting during weekdays was pretty much nonexistent. The thrifts close at 8:00, and I'm never even half done with my homework by then. The EBGames close a little later, 9:30 or 10 I think, but I'm still not done with my homework. Take into effect the fact that I can't get my driver's license until October, and you've got a little picture of my lack of weekday finds. However, should I score something during the week, it will be from talking about old games. Seriously, talk about them and talk about them to a lot of different people. Bring an old or strange handheld out in public if you've got some waiting time somewhere. I've scored several SNES carts off of my late-bus driver, like 15 NES games (8 of them boxed) from my friend who came across them in his closet, I've negotiated deals about gamegears and other systems, and have gotten stacks of games from kids I don't even really know. Get a reputation as the gamer and good things come your way.

heh ;)

In College
I am at Art College which is situated right in the middle of Leeds City Centre basically! So during Lunchtimes i either Go round charity shops or gameshops...
Also on Tuesdays and Thursdays there is and Open Air Market in Leeds and these days mainly have jumble/second hand stuff...
(So basically, if you ever visit Leeds, dont expect anything special to be around as ill be wiping it out regullarly :P)
Online trading is another source of the weekday finds...

Weeks/Days Off
Online trading will then be my main source really, however ill go check out small game shops near by and other towns charity shops
I will also meet friends near by and possibly trade with them...

Once again, we agree. I understand everyone defines these things differently, but it seems like in the last few years the bar has really been lowered for what constitutes a "find". Finding something rare for cheap at the thrifts is a find. Finding something on eBay is finding something on eBay.

I'll third this. "Finds", by definition, are found. Something coming in the mail is generally expected. Nobody has ever unexpectedly sent me a box of R6+ games (not that there would be anything wrong with that ;) ), but I have made many such discoveries actively searching through the bins of what my children refer to as "the junky stores".

Pantechnicon's Theory of Septurnal Game Distribution* is hilarious, and right on the money!

I always check thrift stroes for the stuff that didn't get sold at garages sales over my lunch break. I also have a pretty cool job, that has lenient hours.

It is not the thrift stores that are open it is the flea markets. And I will NOT disclose the info because they have been a virtual treasure trove of finds for me. Im sure everyone can relate.

Pretty unique to have a flea market open 24/7, I bet its like the really really run down version of walmart at 2:00 A.M.
