Okay, got NesterJ, PCEP (TG16), and SMS installed. All three seem to work really well. And I think PCEP might even have support for TG16 CD games. Have any of you guys tried this yet?
And the Genesis emulators that I tried all sucked so far. I'm sure they'll improve eventually.
Haven't tried SNES9X yet. Which of the different ports seems to work the best right now?
Man, I'm going to need a bigger memory stick. He he.
There's a Genesis emulator that runs full speed and full sound. You probably didn't put it at 333mhz.
Here it is just in case.

I want to try rondo of blood on the new pc engine emulator, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it (read me is unreadable, its not even in japanese O_O anyone know how to make the japanese characters appear in notepad so that I can try a translating program (I know they suck, but its something LOL )).
Castlevania 1,3,4,bloodlines, and rondo= 8-)

I can't get the DOOM port to run. It starts to load, screen goes balck and I get some text. Last line says that it's initializing the WAD file. The readme is useless. Anybody have any idea wtf I've got wrong? I got the Genesis emu running and this is going to rule. Can't wait until I get my hands on a 1GB card.

There is actually a RAR file available on http://www.psphacker.com with all the available emulators already converted to the PSP and usable with the exploit. 6MB I believe. Just copy to the memory stick direct!

If nobody figures it out by the time I get a big enough memory stick (possibly this weekend), I'll experiment with ripping one of my TG16 CD games and running it. Hopefully it's just something simple like ripping a .bin/.cue image.
Or do you think it could be something as simple as just copying all the files from the CD to a folder, along with .AIFF format audio tracks...? Nah, that would be too easy. :-)

I totally can't believe I stupidly and mindlessly upgraded to 1.51. I really want to play NES and SNES emulators. Maybe Genesis too. Is there a MAME yet? I really want to play Pop 'n' Twinbee "Bells and Whistles".

I would bet the TG16 CD support needs a bin/cue or iso image like the PC emulators do. I realy doubt copying files from the CD would do anything except take up space.
Edit: there's a thread on this at the dcemulation PSP forum. Apparently the game needs to be in the ISO + MP3 format to work. And I was assuming they wouldn't even have support for music yet.

I think there's a way to play emu's on the 1.51, but it still requires a swap trick. I have to go get my check so I can't look for it right now, but maybe after I have some time I might look into getting it to play without swapping. No promises though.

There's an early version of MAME (0.71) with a very odd list of supported games, most of them weak sauce. Mappy was the best one I saw while scanning the menu.

I got Splash Lake going, but I'm not hearing sound effects, just MP3 tunage. (Does the game even *have* sound effects? I don't see a sound test on the option menu.)
EDIT: J.B. Harold Murder Club works, as well, though I had to "format" RAM with the Super System Card before booting it up. Off to try Ys Book I & II...

I bought a 512 card yesterday. It is way more room than you need to run these emulators, unless you are wanting to carry around your entire ROM collection. If you were just wanting to have the NES emulator, and maybe even the TG16 emulator, with a few roms for each, the stock 32 meg card will work fine.

Anyone got a link to a notation list for ROMs? I know some of them, just not sure about others.
(stuff like !, [o], [ju], [e]... that sort of thing)
So I've been toying with NesterJ so far, just to see what the emulation is like. Very nice. Though for all the ROMs I've played on it, the emulator seems to be in NTSC mode (and hence running faster than I recall playing the games here in PAL land). What determines the mode in the emu? The ROM origin itself? I can't find an option in the emulator to change the region from NTSC to PAL.

yes as long as it is a 1.5 system, not a 1.51 or 1.52
... once you have the roms, the process takes about 10 seconds to figure out and then a couple minutes to download the files and then put them on your PSP...

Anybody sure how to get SNES9x (the optimized version) to run on this? I looked through the other posts and didn't notice it. I copied it over with the exploit, and it seems to be running, it just doesn't detect my rom(s), which have the .smc extension.

So I've converted three TG-CD games for use with PCE for PSP, and all three of 'em suffer from scratchy/poppy/mangled MP3 playback, though the game code itself runs fine. Do other PCE/TG emulators suffer this same problem?

This is a stupid bug in part of most of the emulators that where compiled off the RIN code. The easiest thing to do is place roms on different folders and see which roms are read and then place all your roms on that folder. Hope that helps.

Btw are the new emulators that come out for use on the PSP automatically uploaded as EBOOT files for you to put straight onto the memory card?

I've been downloading my EBOOTs from PSPHacker.com and running 'em through KXPloit Tool 0.3, which automatically copies the converted files onto the Stick. Quick and painless.
There are also "emulator packs" with multiple pre-converted emulators that you unzip and copy to the Stick.

I'm trying to play Bahumut Lagoon but for some reason the IPS file won't load with the rom and when I renamed both files the same it just turns off the PSP when I try to load it :(
Also would anyone know whats a good set up for the SNES emu? I'm trying other games but they seem stunted even without sound and the PSP overclocked.

I used a utility called SNESTool v1.2 to splice IPS and ROM files. Look for it in the download section of Nerologic.com.

I'm running at 333MHz (which isn't actually overclocking the PSP, by the way--it just kills the battery faster), with a frameskip of 3 and a sound rate of 22kHz. Not perfect by any means, but adequate for some of the stuff I've tried.

For those interested in adding wallpapers to their psps:
First you need to download gimp (a picture editor ala photoshop): over at:
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
(download the first two items)
Once you dl them, start them up
After you have them running, start up gimp, you will now see a tall skinny window on the left side of the screen, go to file and open any pic that you want on your psp.
Now go to image, then to scale image. Click the lock next to the image size's width and height. put in anything 300 x 170 or lower. Then click the scale button, now it will be resized to fit on your psp screen (looks small doesn't it, lol).
Now go to file and then save as. Put in the destination you want the pic to go to and make sure you make the pic a .bmp by using the file type option in that window, then save.
Now your set to rename it to whatever month and stick it in your psp (then to pspersonalize). Make sure it matches the requirements:
300 x 170
24 bit color
less than or equal to 150 kb
And thats it, enjoy ^_^

Okay, heads up on a potentially cheap memory stick. I just got an older 128 MB Sony for about $17 at the local Circuit City. It's not the Pro kind, and it comes with a memory stick adapter. The model number is MSG-M128A, and the UPC is 27242 61103. If you can find any left at your local store, it's definitely a good deal if you just want to cart around a few NES, SMS, TG16, SNES, or Genesis ROMs. This should hold me until the emulators mature enough that I feel a 1 GB stick is worth the $100 or so. Well, I'm at work right now...the files I used are available at the PSP hacker site that is at the beginning of this thread. On the right side of the site should be a listing of files...one of tem is the kxplot pack. That was the file I downloaded.
yeah I used those, I am still having minor issues, but I am hammering it out.

this site has EVERYTHING...including the fils already split (for us Mac users) and it updates the emulators pretty much everyday....
for NES i recomend NesterJ and for SNES you gotta go for SNES9Xy...i dont remember what the Y is all about, but they are a lot better
like i said the emulators are gettin updated everyday, so it just keeps getting better and better...hell they fixed that, having to switch memory sticks issue pretty damn quick
edit: just noticed a lot of this info has been posted already, but i figured i should still try to help anyway i could :)

I was just there earlier and downloaded the split emulator back but it's a couple weeks old and a bunch of new updates have come out since then. I got the SNES9 (v.9) emu working but it's a bit slow and I hear the newest one (v.12) is MUCH faster.
They don't have anything more current that is split, do they? I'm dying to get a SNES emu on my PSP that runs at full speed. Can anyone help a brother out? :P
