View Full Version : Rarity distribution of your collection

I was curious about how much of my collection fell into each rarity category. So I counted. Rarity "0" represents those games in the database that have not yet been assigned a rarity--these are mostly either current generation games or imports. Each * represents five items, rounding to the nearest increment of five.

Heh. I didn't think about that. Maybe they'll need to scale to 10 or 20 games per * ?

I have NO IDEA how I would go about counting this.... are you guys using a program or something? It takes me like half an hour just to go downstairs and count how many games I own, nevermind sorted by rarity.

The 0's seem to be mostly GBA games and the older tabletop arcade games (I counted everything, was that okay?), plus some non-cartridge stuff.

I think that it might be nice if the DP online rarity guide collection lists might be able to generate this kind of general statistic (and others). Checking the rarity of all my games seems like an awful lot of work.

If you've got your games entered in the list here on DP, just sort them by rarity and count. There are 100 games on each page, that makes it easier ;)

Well I know I'm not the biggest fish in the sea of DP, but I'm certainly a big enough fish to keep most of the other big fish from eating me, so here comes a very big fish list!

Well, there's still a fair number of games that aren't in the database yet (PAL 2600 & NES, for example), but here's the listed stuff:

i must add that ~20% of my collection are not added to my list yet

and that being a PAL collector many things don't have a rarity yet, expect the diagram to shift towards higher rarities as soon as rarities are added for PAL SNES

10: * (i'll just say that, it's a not-in-db-yet item, but it's one-of-a-kind)

edit:
ok, as i did a first version of PAL SNES Rarity today, i would like to add that my numbers will rise like this:
R6: +4 (+100%)
R7: +3 (+60%)
R8: +2 (+200%) :P

I use MS excel. I have one worksheet of the games that I own for each system. I have another worksheet of every avaliable game for each system. Both worksheets list the rareity for each game. I then use a lookup function on a 3rd worksheet to count the number of each rarity that I have and am missing. That way I can make cool graphs of all kinds of stuff.

Since I already had all of this, counting for this post was quite easy.

well, i use Word to keep track of my collection, just a numbered list for everything, works fine!!

for this statistic i just went through my online collection, copy&paste into Textpad, and let the program tell me how many lines per RX i have ;)

wow...

um... i really want to participate here guys, but have no way of really getting into it. i dont have the rarity of all of my games with my lists, so this would be difficult. i will estimate 6's and above, because going through 3300 games just isnt practical.

This sounds like too much work to me.

I keep Excel list for the game systems I expect to find in the wild, but I don't keep the Rarity up to date. I have better things to do with my time. Like LOOK FOR MORE GAMES! LOL

Haha, for real. If anybody's up for counting how many 0's and 5's there are in a list of nearly a thousand games, then by all means, knock yourselfs out. :D

I will say that I have six 4s, five 7s, one 8 and one nine, however.

Still have QUITE a few systems to enter into the site, but I've never been able to figure out how to get a list of all of the games in my collection to show up honestly.

I will say that I have six 4s, five 7s, one 8 and one nine, however.

I have over 1200 games in my collection, and it was a bit of a pain to count how many of each rarity I have in it, but it didn't take very long to do it, and it killed a little bit of time.

If you've already entered all the games you own into your collection list here, then all you have to do is sort them all by rarity and start counting them. So I simply used my list.

Now people like Joe I can understand not wanting to count all of their games just for this, since he has 10's of 1000's of games in his collection, and I can understand people like DJ wanting someone else to do it for them, because he has mostly 1000's of imports as far as I know, so he might as well just say that he rules 0 rarity here and leave it at that.

As for everyone else, hopefully at least a few more of the other big fish around here will take the time to participate in this before this topic withers and dies, because I think it's one of the coolest new topics that I've seen here in a while. It was fun to see my results after all that counting!

It's not HARD or anything, but I'd rather play a game for a few hours than go through the other 1,500 games that I haven't put into the system yet ;)

I'm sure I'll get around to it sometime and bump this thread somewhere down the road with an update including all my games including NES and forward.

Is there something messed up with the guide?

When I go to it, it acts as if I'm not logged in (My listed is greyed out) and when I click login, it just takes me to the main page of the forums.

That kept happening to me yesterday. You can still search for stuff and see your collection checkmarks (albeit greyed out, but still there), or you can get to your list through your profile. I have always logged in checked, so I don't know why it's happening through that page either. :hmm:

Well I don't know how you have all of your games stored, but mine are all in boxes, and I was very surprised at how quickly I finished entering all mine into the database, but then 2500 games is over twice as many as I have, so I can certainly understand it taking alot of time just to do that!
