View Full Version : Does deal mean end of Madden?....
just a curiosity, but would you think that with John Madden's new deal to go to NBC for the 2006 NFL season, and with EA's deal with ESPN, will that mean the end of 'Madden Football' for 2007 and onwards, with EA taking this opportunity to 'retire' the brand name?

When was the last time Madden had anything to do with the game, other than renting out his name? Honest question here, I really don't know.

BOOM!!
It is time to finally put JM to rest. He has been past his prime for at least 10 years.
The most frightening thing I have ever seen on television is when ABC gives Madden a close-up on a game telecast. Yeesh!! His melon takes up the whole screen! @_@
That is 1000 times more offensive to me than the T.O.-Nicolette Sheridan locker room promo. :D

He's an announcer in it.

If they license both John and ESPN, is there any reason they can't be in the same game? I don't see why they can't. It's not like it's a real TV broadcast after all.

He does record commentary/play by play for the games.
I hope they don't put Joe Thiesmann in his place. I don't like Madden that much, but Theismann makes me want to pull an Elvis and shoot my TV.

I guess I should have been more specific. I knew that.
Didn't he used to waaaay back in the day actually have some hands-on role with designing the game and the plays and whatnot?

As if the designers and programmers could actually understand what he was saying.

During all that EA/NFL contract chatter, I remember reading that the Madden contract was up for renewal soon, so maybe he will stop too, but I doubt it. It's a franchise name now and EA obviously has the money to dole out. Unless they figure just "NFL" football is enough since they're the only ones who can make that claim.

I doubt it's the end. The "Madden Football" brand name is just such a huge seller, that any change in that would be moronic from a marketing perspective.
Just consider how many non-hardcore gamers buy the Madden brand each year, solely based on name. I know one who already has it on pre-order i believe, with her last game purchase being last years edition. (Aside from titles for her kids)

Maybe they will retire the series for a while until they create enough innovative features to warrant a new game. One can only hope.

I know a lot about this (what EA plans to do, what Madden's role is in the games, etc.) but due to insulting of my favorite sport and one of my favorite games, I'm not going to post them.
Lets see if anyone else here is smart as well. :)
Really -- I'm just SICK and TIRED of the bashing that Madden games get all the time. I've had it. If you don't have anything positive to say to help the original posters question (and this goes for all threads as well), then don't say anything! If you want to bash EA and/or Madden, do it in one of the other threads in pogress.
