Edited 06/27/05: Now with PICTURES!
http://www.digitpress.com/images/njclassic

Since XXX stopped meaning "thirty" ages ago and since our last NJ CLASSIC XXX was such a blast, the name stays. Plus one.

For those of you who are new to this event, NJ Classic is a video game playin', competin', tradin' and drinkin' party hosted at Digital Press HQ. Practically every wing of HQ is opened up for these events, from the library where you can play MAME-emulated arcade games and dazzle the masses with your Samba de Amigo skills, to the main screening area where four-player head-to-head competition runs wild, to the "back room" where some of the greatest trades of the past decade have occurred. For pictures from past events, check HERE (http://www.digitpress.com/images/njclassic/index.htm).

At "triple x plus one" we'll also have the main floor lounge area open where the system of honor will be Sega Saturn, all kinds of modified with piles of imports standing by. Never got into Saturn? Heard about those great imports but never got to play 'em? That's about to change.

There are also freebies aplenty. Make a dent in our stash as we clear space to make room for the "show season" where more comes in than goes out! Everything from games to consoles to memorabilia here for the taking.

Attendance is free though we encourage guests to bring whatever they like to drink and snack on. We've always got a full fridge and pantry however, so come with just your game face, if you've got one.

WHERE? Digital Press HQ (PM or e-mail me for directions)
WHEN? Saturday, June 25th
TIME? 3:00pm until "whenever"

With the Expo season about to kick off, it's time to enjoy some old-school gamer get-togethers. You know, the kind where people actually get to sit down and enjoy each others' company! Be here for this one before it's TOO LATE!

Invites were sent to the "regulars" but we've got room for a few more.

See you on the 25th and if we don't, you can count on some great pics from this always-memorable gathering. Game ON.

This message you posted is from November last year:

I really like that Dragons Lair [board game]! I am watching your auction. If anyone wins it from here and is willing to let just the dragons Lair go PM me.

I won it, and I'll have it there. See me when you get there. ;)

ya know, I have been meaning to come to one of these for the past 3 or 4 years. And with me being pretty close to the party, I can't see not at least stopping by. Count me in. I will even bring a 30 pack of light beer to share. The only worry I have is the kitty dander / urine. I am gonna douse myself up with crazy claritin & other anti-allergic drugs...

Also, quick question, is this just a gaming night? Or should I bring my trade "cart" Some one let me know people!! Gots plenty of goodies to trade.....

Since CGE has pretty much been shot down for me this year ( ), I'll be bringing my trade box with me to Joe's. Just a sample of some stuff within:

- One-of-a-kind animated cels from Saturday Supercade and Dragon's Lair
- CIB Atari Stunt Cycle console
- Many CIB videogame board games
- Oddball videogame-related bric-a-brac
- stacks of CIB Genny, PSX, and PS2 trade bait

I'll also have some stuff for Ye Olde Freebies Table too.

I'm in the market for Sega CD (CIB) and Colecovision (loose carts OK) stuff, so bring it if ya got it. Will also have that filthy green folding stuff too. :D

Tim, if you want PM me. I've got a bunch of CV stuff, mostly loose carts, but some systems and a 2600 adapter that I'd be more than happy to part with. I planned to travel light this time, but if you want I can send you a list and maybe work something out and bring that which you seek.

On another note, for anyone else who is going I'm still looking for TG-16 stuff, especially a turbo express and loose cards. I also looking for an XE game system and 800/XL/XE carts.

See everyone one in a few days.

I will have extremely meager trade offerings if I can even get to it this week. There is Batman to be seen, multiple times (hopefully at the drive-in).

I will repeat my plea for a boxed & doc'ed Ultimate Air Combat, or just the box & docs. Last one for my NES Activision collection. I'll go up to a whopping 10 bucks or even lower!

I had a great time, and Chris, Jaime will introduce you to everyone and play nice with you, as long as you guard the Kahlua. LOL

Last time I came out, I left my home in Ohio at 6 a.m. Saturday morning. Arrived at Joe's around 2 p.m. Hung out 'till 9:30-10 p.m. Then drove back that night, arriving home at 6 a.m. Sunday morning - 24 hours later. Yikes indeed. :eek 2:

This year, I gotta hotel lined up. You know what that means? Yup. I'm a-drinkin'. :D

I just want to put a shout out there to all attendees of NJC-XXX+1. I'm looking to fill in some *very* common gaps in areas of my collection, or games that I thought I had, but upon recent double-check...hrrmmmm, they aren't there?!!

Anyways, if anyone has these in particular, for trade/sale/freebie/whatever...if they have boxes/manuals..GREAT! If not, thats just as cool. Let me know via PM. Thanks!

SNES: Super Mario World *the shame* :embarrassed:
NES: Super Mario Bros. 2
NES: Faxanadu
NES: Rad Racer
Coleco: Tarzan
Coleco: Rocky
Coleco: Cosmic Avenger
Intellivision: Carnival
Intellivision: Demon Attack
Intellivision: Frog Bog
Intellivision: Microsurgeon
Intellivision: Pinball

For my more "serious" requests, a working Commodore 64 (and a few cart games), and if anyone can hook me up with a MAME full - DVD set, I'd be a happy fella. PM me if you can...

I'll have a modest trade box on hand, as well as some moolah, but high roller I ain't :)

Thanks in advance!

I'm not staying at the shindig long, but I'm going to stop by in the afternoon to see Tim and do a clock swap.

If you're interested, I could bring you a working C64 & 1541 disk drive, and dot matrix printer. I only have one piece of software for it - a 5.25" Space Harrier - you can take it with the C64. I don't really know what a fair price is for it. I don't suppose you have any Gamecube stuff to trade?

Also, I have a somewhat old, full MAME collection on DVD. I don't remember the version, but if you're interested I could check on it. Also, I'm not sure how I'd copy the discs, but again, I could probably get it figured out if you're interested.

So, are you possibly interested in any of this? And what time do you think you'll be at Joe's?

PS: JOE: obviously, I will probably show up briefly, early, this weekend after all, but won't be staying through to the evening. I'll definitely need to leave before 6:00PM, if not earlier.

Got back around 2 p.m. today from NJ Classic. Had a great, great time; left with many great, great deals; and got to hang out all day with some great, great people. Thanks again Joe for the invite and all the effort that goes into hosting this merry band of misfits every year in your own home.

Things I leaned on this trip:
1. Making a left turn is impossible in New Jersey, as they have concrete walls between lanes. You must go up another half-mile and use one of the "U-turn" lanes to turn around, then drive back the half mile to where you want to go. THis caused me no end of frustration.

2. Always make hotel reservations and don't just "expect" to find a hotel with vacancies. I left around 11 p.m., but it was slightly after midnight and well into Pennsylvania before I found a hotel with an open room. But that shower and bed were the most comfortable shower and bed I have ever encountered.

3. Upon taking an exit for afore-mentioned hotel, pay attention to the turns you make lest you end up BACK on the Interstate, heading BACK the way you came. I did this TWICE.

4. There is no better beer than beer served from a pony keg on a pal's back porch. Social suds are indeed the tastiest suds.

5. The only thing more fun than playing videogames is heckling someone else while THEY play videogames.

6. That damn hat I wear at these gatherings doesn't "breathe". It was like wearing a toboggan cap.

7. Speaking of toboggan caps, John Hardie pulls off that look rather nicely. I hope someone got a photo.

8. People put out the most interesting items on the freebie table. A complete set of Lodoss War video tapes? A hardcopy of the D&D Players Manual?

9. As an addendum to the above item, people will take EVERYTHING from the freebie table, as those items were snatched up during the evening.

10. The best deals under the sun occur in Joe's laundry room. That crowded 10X10 room is a place of retrogaming magic, Itellyouwhut.

Anyway, thanks agian. Nice to see everyone again, and it was nice meeting many of you for the first time. Hope to see some of you again soon on the west coast. (SOme of you may understand the double meaning behind that wish.) Take care, and I can't wait to see the photos!

Yeah, NJ sucks that way. I hope you didn't hit any traffic circles (so-called because they *cause* traffic LOL ). Plus you still CANNOT PUMP YOUR OWN GAS. WTF?

5. The only thing more fun than playing videogames is heckling someone else while THEY play videogames.

Yes, we enjoyed that very much. LOL

I had a great time again, this time I didn't have to work beforehand and the driving was split up through the whole day, no 3.5 hour slog this time! Got some good stuff from Joe, actually introduced myself to some people, and had a blast playing Steam Hearts (?) with Joe, trying to get to the naughty bits. We had to give up after awhile though. Hit the fleas the next day again with TheSmirk and our beloveds, and I scored a complete sloppy copy of Super Mario RPG.

And Spoon rocks. :rocker:

Thanks again to Joe & Liz for another great evening.

Thanks again Joe (and all that were there) for a great get-together, alot of fun as always! You guys and gals are alright! ;)

As Ferg said we had some luck at some of our old fleamarket haunts Sunday morning, I got some cool stuff at NJC-XXX+1, but the icing on the cake of the weekend was actually finding stuff, in this day and age, in the WILD! LOL

I was able to pick up my long neglected SNES Super Mario World($3), a NES Classics Donkey Kong Junior (original $3) and a complete import Toukon Retsuden 2 (New Japan Pro Wrestling 2) for PSX($3) all in perfect shape...there was actually some other stuff that I passed up on, but it was surprisng to see old games again, seemed like there was a drought for the longest time.

Like the rest I had a good time, Joe is always a very gracious and generous host.

Tim and I found it interesting that the same pile of twenties made their rounds: John buys stuff from Tim, Tim buys stuff me, I buy stuff from Joe, and then Joe keeps the money because he already owns everything. Although I know he was working on a few deals before I left, so the cycle may have continued a bit further. The surpise of the night was the X-arcade I picked up. I didn't think I would like it as much as I do.

The free table has been getting larger and more and more eclectic. I do want to confess that I took the D&D book from the free table. About 5 hours into the night it was still there and having not played for quite a number of years I thought it would be interesting to read through. It is currently sitting in my bathroom waiting to be read. (For those Seinfeld fans, I realize the book is now flagged. Although for all I know the book was already flagged, come to think of it maybe thats why it was still on the table 5 hours in.)

What's with the sausage? Was that on the freebie table?

No, that came from the Horizon Diner. It's the Knotty Pirate Sausage.

An awesome time at Joe and Liz's as usual. I got an NES and Genesis (which my roommates have been playing Ms. Pac Man on religiously). Also, Joe hooked me up with lots of great Saturn imports and game t-shirts. Oh, and next time I'll try to keep my game tokens in my pockets so they don't get lost forever under Joe's deck!

Those are cool pictures but I don't know who any of those people are!
