I bought a "TV Games" thing. x_x
I always say I hate them and prefer the real thing. :embarrassed:
But hey, it was only $5 brand new, at the Salvation Army store. LOL
It seems to be an old model one with only 10 games. 5 of them I already have (complete!) on the real Intellivsiion.

Nothing wrong with having a couple of those around, especially when the non-gamers drop by. I have the Frogger one, very good control.

Theres nothing wrong with that! As long as it's an official licensed product then you just gave some money to the old Intellivision programmers and I think that's awesome! I think the best thing about it is that you can travel with it. Take it on vacation and play it at the hotel. Play it at work too.

i would strongly recommend the commodore one, as it is 100 percent accurate, unlike most of the other units.
the intellivision one is perhaps the worst one on the market. the sound fx are limited, and recycled for every game, and the graphics have been altered to work on an NES-on-a-chip

That's not being a sell-out, being a sell-out would be selling your collection for some insane price to a poor n00b who wouldn't know better than to trust you (like selling for triple what it's actually worth and they don't know it).
"Being a sell-out is sweet. Because you make lots of money." -Eric Cartman
I've yet to buy one of those though, I want to. I'd play pretty much all of them.

Odds are I'll keep it sealed for display since I have a real Intellivision. I typically take GameBoy/GameGear along for trips and such. Or even PSX (for Motels). 8-)

At least they were honest with the box:
"Original games have been modified for optimal play on this device."
The "Baseball" game on it is the ol' "Major League Baseball" game according to the box's screenshot. Same screenshot on the MLB box. Same with "Football" being the ol' "NFL Football". I'm guessing they changed the title screens on the 'TV Game' versions for licensing reasons.

I know. I was just being kind of sarcastic with the topic starter. ;)

They got rid of those licenses back in the 80's when they started releasing the white label variations. As you may already know, licensing is why you don't see Burgertime, Tron or D&D on any of the plug 'n play or compilations.

Right. Just thought I'd point that out about those 2 formally licensed ones on a PnP. I have the original licensed versions of 'em complete. 8-)

Many of us enjoy those so it's not being a sellout. I have the Ms. Pac-Man one myself. I may get one or two more but will likely just get ones with arcade games on it.
As I said, buying one of those isn't being a sellout. What being a sellout might be giving yourself the name of a talking bear that you put tapes in and which many consider a minion of the devil :D

Although I'm not putting you down, Teddy, $5 seems more than fair, I do wonder why people buy some of these. Firebox has got a Street Fighter 2 one for £30. For less than that you could buy a megadrive and the game

I don't think thrift stores are official Intellivision product retailers, buddy.

I haven't seen a Commodore one. What's a good store to check?

Depending on the quality of the stores, Wal-Mart, Target. Only place I've seen it where I'm at (with generally low quality stores) is Toys R Us.

I didn't even realize there'd been a Commodore one...of course, I never actually owned a Commodore. All my earlier computers (pre-internet) were Atari ones. I wonder if that would interest me? I know we have an older thread about these units so I'll probably track that down and re-read everything and see just what's available. So far I only have the one unit (Ms. Pac-Man) so I may be interested in adding one or two others to my collection soon.

if you have a kaybee toy store around, they sell them for 15 dollars, and sometimes they are on sale for 10 bucks. the game selection isnt the greatest, but the device runs on authentic C64 hardware, and can be hacked to run other C64 devices and load other games.

not to mention, the system's hardware designer, jerri ellsworth, is easy on the eyes

I didn't know there was a Commodore one, either. But, yeah, there's nothing wrong with buying those TV Games things, I have a lot of them. (2600 joystick, paddle, Namco arcade, Activision 2600)
$5 is a good price. When I buy them new at a place like Wal-Mart, they're $20.

KB Toys had the Commodore ones for $10 at one point. They might still have them since most KBs can't move much merchandise on a regular basis...
