View Full Version : What was the last "real" arcade game you played?

I'm not talking about home arcade, or MAME, or anything like that. I want to know the last time you physically walked into some sort of store (pizzeria, skating rink, movie store, real arcade, swimming pool, restaraunt, bar, etc...) and dropped some coinage into a true stand up arcade cabinet. For me, the last "true arcade game" I dropped any quarters into would be the old school "Rolling Thunder" arcade cab that I played at a pizzeria in my town. The sad thing is, it was more than 2 years ago (although I have played a couple Pinball machines since then) x_x

Ms. PacMan at Dave & Busters about a month ago.
BTW.... I freakin love Rolling Thunder. I pumped soooo many quarters into that game back when I was a teenager and my friends and I would peddle our bikes up to the local QT.

Err...probably those Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga dual machines I see everywhere now. I do love me some Galaga.
I also played on a Area 51/Maximum Force dual machine recently as well.
But as for an actual original arcade machine, the last one I played was probably...Hydro Thunder. Don't really like it, though.

It was Galaga and then Time Crisis 3 at a Cici's Pizza about a month ago.
There was a time when I was living in Austin I'd hit the arcades 4-5 times a week. @_@

At A-Kon at 5am after the Hentai Fest I got on a DDR long enough to show 15 or so cosplayers how bad I suck at DDR. That was the first weekend of this month.

Generally about twice a month, always whatever Tekken they have lying around. Last time it was Tekken 3 at the bowling alley arcade, although that was a little more than a month ago since we haven't gone there because my friend is on house arrest.
There's also a thing where you pay like $10 or something and it's all the arcade games and laser tag from 7pm until close (midnight?). It's every Tuesday at Brunswick Zone (old galaxy world) out in Carol Stream, IL off route 64 for anyone who lives in Chicago suburbs.

Xybots, Gyruss and Frogger...all last week.
There's this new antique shop I discovered on Central Avenue where the owner has a serious emphasis on retro style and pop culture, so included among his moon chairs are quite a few cabs, all set to free play. :D

I took my kids to the same Brunswick Zone mentioned by nate above, just a couple of weeks ago. Played some Mortal Kombat, and about 20 of the ticket games.
Surprisingly, this arcade is pretty big and has quite a few games still. Here's hoping it lasts a while.

We have a decent arcade here in the mall that I work in, so I hit it almost everyday. Pop'n Music 8 is what I mostly play now, because it's new for us, but he also has a Galaga, MvC2, SF3:3rdS, a couple Pinball machines and some more Bemani games. Lots of good stuff for me to waste my lunch break on.

Would you believe it's been so long that I honestly can't remember? Is that pathetic or what? There's one or two machines inside my local Wal-Mart but I never play them and everytime I walk into the actual arcade up at my mall, I leave about a minute or two later in disgust. That may have been the last place I played one but as to when, my best guest would be 2 or 3 years ago. It was most likely a fighting game then, maybe one of the Tekken games.
Just like Rogmeister, I have no idea what I last played in an Arcade. It's has been at least 10+ years since I've been to an arcade. In fact, there isn't one in my area anymore - at least not that I know of. Even then, I wouldn't go. I'd just rather play games at home. It is so much easier.

The last one I played was either SNK vs. Capcom or DDR (some mix, I honestly can't say which as the logo doesn't say one) at the Tilt Arcade at the mall.

The alst time I played an arcade cabinet was about 3 years ago... Some hotel I was staying at while on vacation with the family had a small room filled with 5-6 arcade cabinets. I only bothered to play two of them, and can't remember exactly which one I played last. They were Street Fighter II and Pole Position. By the time vacationw as over, I managed to get the top score in Pole Position. I didn't do so hot with Street Fighter II though. Too bad I sucked at fighting games back then...

Off the top of my head, it would have to be the Konami X-Men 6-Player arcade game. My local mall had it where you got 9 lives for a quarter, while every other place had 3 lives for $50. I played it for about an hour every time I went to the mall. But then one day, they closed down the arcade in the food court, and eventually closed down the stores in the food court, and now the mall itself is on the verge of bankruptcy. Everyone's moving a few towns over to that larger, newer, 2.5 story mall. But all they have at their arcade are DDR machines, some crane games, and those old FMV shooters that wound up on the 3DO.

Sure. It was Asteroids at Shorty's in downtown Seattle. I went there for lunch :) They also got a Defender and Robotron in there and while they're fun, they're those crappy multigame versions. Oh well.

Last month at Zern's Market in Gilbertsville, PA. I played DK Jr, Ms. Pac-Man, Centipede, Joust 2, and Hang-On. I hadn't been there in years, and was sad to see the Hercules pinball gone. I got to play it when I was there last, but talk about your unresponsive flippers. :(

i was in some arcade in londons oxford street, the game i was mainly playing was capcom vs snk
When I moved in February, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the local pizzeria has a Namco 4-in-1 cabinet. I've played Pacman with the change from a slice. Also, the only arcade around is just a short trip away. I've played and beaten X-Men:Children of the Atom with a friend a few months ago (but I'm a miser, so plunking quarters into machines will never become a regular habit).

Yeah, there selection is pretty good, although on the unlimited play night I think they should include the pinball machines too.
It was an aracde in the 80s (called Galaxy World then) and then in the mid-late 90s Brunswick bought it and changed the name to Brunswick zone (and added more stuff). So to my knowledge it's been around for about 15-20 years, I don't think it's going anywhere soon - especially since that is a prime location now (route 64 used to be a po-dunk country road in the 80s).
I don't know if you noticed, but if you keep walking all the way to the back you'll see lasertag, which is included for as many times as you want to play on the unlimited night.

Oh, it was the 20th Anniversary Galaga/Pac Man (Ms.?) thing, on vacation...at one of those souped-up rest stops with a Starbucks/Burger King/Popeyes and some other junk, in Ohio, I think. During a short trip. That was sometime in the last two years (trip through Pennsylvania, don't remember where we went), during spurts of rain and good weather.
Funny thing is that the last time before that - back when I was still at my last job, I think (!!!), so early 2001 or maybe earlier, would've been Galaga, followed by the original Time Crisis. At another date, I've played TC 2 in Vegas (man, screw slots, go play at an arcade), and maybe Area 51 Site 2 (which is a machine I know that place had).

Hey, where do you live? It says you live in Upstate NY in your location.
Anyways, I was playing the Simpsons Arcade game around once a week up until around a month ago. For some stupid reason they took it out of my local arcade (Golden Dollar). It was the ONLY classic game there, and was believe it or not, the only game that even used a freaking joystick/buttons. Every single game in there now is either a DDR game, driving game, shooting game, or a ticket game. Pretty damn sad huh? :(

There was a club here that had a small arcade and whenever I went there for a concert I'd play games between bands (or during bands, if they sucked). It just closed recently, but I went to a concert there not too long before it closed and I remember spending time with 1942 and Metal Slug 2.

I'm about to go up to the mall to see a movie. While I'm up there, I'm going to force myself to go in the arcade and play something, just so I can honestly say I've played a real arcade game this decade. I'm not sure I've played one since the 90's, to be perfectly honest. I keep going in, look around, and leave. But this time I'll play something. I'd like to find a classic game there but I doubt they have any. I'll settle for a fighting game if they have Tekken or something like that...

Ms. Pac-Man.
It was May 19th, 2005. I was waiting for my buddy to show up at the theatre to see Revenge of the Sith and I had some time to kill. So I headed to the arcade and played one of my all time faves.
Easily set the new high score. :)

Well, I did what I said I would. I went to a movie and stopped at the arcade afterwards. I only played one game...Marvel Vs. Capcom...the first one, I guess. My score was okay...something like 97,300 if I recall...not great but good enough for the #2 spot. Of course, I don't know how many people are registered in that game right now. I saw Tekken 5 there right after that but I didn't bother. Maybe I'll get the home version of that eventually.
So Rogmeister played an actual arcade game on June 24, 2005. Maybe I'll play another before this decade is over. :D
