So, I'm terrible when it comes to building stuff. I can't cut a piece of paper without tearing it, and actual construction projects? HA! The 'table' I built in my college Industrial Class fell apart leg by leg on my way to the car from the shop. I've always been jealous of the system modders and custom shelf builders that show off their goods in the forums.

But I do sometimes rock in a good way, and apparently its designing video game cases / library sets. My original project was to design a complete case set-up for all the caseless PSX OPM Demo Discs. They turned out like so:

http://www.game-rave.com/disc_lay.jpg

Each one lists everything on the disc, plus corrects several typos / incorrect game names. The coolest feature though, was when you lined up all the cases, you got this:

http://www.game-rave.com/disc_all.jpg

Each image you see in the side mural is a character from the top 10+ games that represent the PlayStation system. Also, and not quite visible, at the bottom of each disc is a single letter, when you line all of them up, it spells out "Http://www.game-rave.com Perfect PlayStation Guide"

One of these days I'll actually cobble all of the images onto a CD to give away as a Paypal Donation gift on my site.

The newest project though, are my MVS carts. I HATE HATE HATE the real arcade labels. So bland, so bleah, they look like the generic food aisle at Jewel. So, since I can't afford to buy Shock Boxes, I decided to take labels...er...things into my own hands: DangerboyMVS Labels!

http://www.game-rave.com/compare.jpg

Each label has the full game name, screenshot, Meg count, # of players and developer. Although you can only tell by looking at Ninja Combat, I even developed a Colored Bar Genre indicator that I based off of the old TG16 one for reference (ie red = fighting, yellow is action, sports is green, etc). The bar is located on the left side next to the MVS logo.

My hope is to one day have all the US MVS Carts, and have all of them labeled with my creations. If anything, it will look great in a portfolio, since the PSX ones helped me earn a $3,000 graphic design scholarship. :D

Just had to puff my chest a little, game on! :D

That's some really cool shit. Wow, I enby you for your skills. Those cases are beautiful, as well as those MVS labels. Did you peel off the original labels, or stick the new labels over them?

How did you print out those PSX cases?

Did you take them someplace to print out, or do it at home?

Inkjet, Laser?

And what type of paper did you use?

I make covers for my coverless games and i'd like to know how to make my covers look thier best.

That is just awesome. I wish I could have done stuff like that when I took Graphic Design in college.

If I had a set of PSX discs I'd ask for copies. Any chance you'll do PS2? :D

Thanks Guys! Positive re-inforcement is a good thing. LOL

Both OPM and MVS labels are printed on standard deskjet multipurpose paper amd printer in da' home.

The trick is to make sure that you scan in the images at 600 DPI and you print on the "Best" setting" at the same resolution.

As for the original MVS labels, I left them on there, only removing the right side area where the VOID Sticker would have been (like on ninja combat) so that the label would lay flat. The labels are applied with rubber cement, double sided technique.

If you can, redo the logos and fonts from scratch. When I Scannned in the OPM Magazine logo, I dumped it into Photoshop, created a new layer, and painted/lettered over it, to get the perfect shapes/crisp letters. The ESRB ratings were also erased from the corner and rebuilt from the ground up, using my own idea of "D" for Demo, and where the SLUS is a nod to the DP PSX Guide as it's "GR-123076 JDSWDP" (Game Rave, My Birthday, Jason Dvorak/Steve Wilcox/DigitPress).

I also forgot to mention that all the spine pictures were chosen by various DP users live in the mIRC channel. The only one I wanted in there was the MGS Ninja. If I can afford Shock Boxes one day, I'll do the same for the Neo, but on a per series basis, rather than the whole spine.

Once Sony quits making PS2 demo discs, I'll be able to. That Way I know what the length of the spine montage will have to be. :)

Then we'd just have to worry about if it's DVD Case, Thin DVD, or Thin CD cases to use. If there's enough demand, I'll definitely work on it. ^_^

Please let it be standard cases. I loathe the slim ones. :)

I would definitely pay to have all of the OPM insert images. I've been looking for a way too handle all of my demo disks.

Great work!

Wow those are really great. Really, be proud of yourself.

The only thing I would try to change is the rating icon, make it one that says E-M...I know there's one for E-T...the D just looks out of place to me. And that's pretty much neligible.

Well, I took a stab at the PS2 sleeves:

Please IGNORE the slightly small size...I accidentlaly clicked 'scale media' on the printer option, not realizng I needed the bleed.

Here's the first test run:

Lined up with full retail versions:

The NTSC / ESRB (My 'D' One, just couldn't let it go) and the ESRB Explanation Box (now with game rave info) and barcode have all made it intact.

Let me know what you guys think.

Let me know what you guys think.

If there was an emoticon that was "urintaing on the floor with glee" I'd use it right now. But, as it stands, this one will do.

:rocker:

Well done.
