Who do you think were the most useless or idiotic RPG characters you had the misfortune of having to join your party?

Edward from FF4:
A coward..and he sings?! Aren't Princes supposed to be braze?

Palom and Porom from FF4:
Good wizzards, need mor ein the brains dept.

Gau from FF6:
Why...?!

I'm not particularly fond of Yuffie (FF7). There are entire websites devoted to her, but I'm not jumping on the wagon. I think she's excess baggage. Sometimes, I purposely fight strong monsters only to let them kill her.

I totally agree with you about Yuffie, she is indeed excess baggage.

Don't forget Nall (even though he's not really a party member, he's just 'there'), and cait Sith.

never really liked Tidus from FFX for 3 reasons:

1)his clothes...JESUS!! who the hell dresses him??

2)that laughing scene...what was square thinking?

3)Girly Girly Girly voice

me and a few of my friends were watching my friend play it, and he got to that scene, and we all started cracking up. That ruined any character Tidus had

Jogurt from Shining Force is the worst RPG character ever. He has only one point for every stat, except no magic and seven movement points (so you can get him killed more quickly, I guess). If you manage to kill somebody with him (the only way that's possible is to finish somebody off with only one hit point left, assuming that he doesn't miss), you get a Jogurt Ring, a joke item not worth the extra time. It just makes your character(s) look exactly like that worthless little freak. To add insult to injury, he can't level up.

I think you guys are being a little harsh on Tidus. He's just some young kid, not Rambo-delusional. In fact, he reminds me of the American soldiers I see interviewed on TV. If Tidus is lame, then so is the American solider.

FF10: Rkku. Her original skills (steal/use) were rather useless, so I was forced to turn her into a Yuna clone (white mage). At least that way she could heal someone and cast Holy once in a while.

FF9: Quina. She "eats" enemies to learn new skills? Please. Her attacks are lame.

FF7: Aeris. I never use her, because I don't want to waste time leveling up a person who's going to die anyway. I'll level up other characters instead.

FF6: There were lots of worthless characters in FF6: Gau, Mog, Umaro. Also [Setzer] with his card-throwing ability. Half the time he cast worthless spells instead of damaging the enemy. Shadow was rather ineffective too since he was always running off. Locke's thieving was useless to me too. Clearly these characters were meant to enhance the story, not to be useful.

FF5: Gandalf. He dies, so he's as worthless as Aeris.

All characters in FF7, 8, and 9. The games would be much better without any characters at all.

Kaine....I disagree with you about the characters in FF4 and 6, especially Polom and Porom. Their scene at the end was touching ;)

Gamingguy, the card-throwing game in FF6 was Setzer. Umaro really wasn't useless to me- he was one those powerhouse brute types.

EVERY character from final fantasy series who uses blue magic, or "steals skills" from monsters has been completely useless in my book.

FF9 - that big tub o lard that ate monsters. Don't even remember "it's" name. But it bugged the hell outta me.

I actually LIKED palom and porom. Blew my mind the first time they stoned themselves.

Teepo from Breath of Fire III. I brought him up to level 15 and he leaves, the bastard.

Yes Quina and Cait Sith were uless, but I liked them so much I actually leveled them up to the point of being very usefull. I have yet to find a character that I couldn't level up enough to make useful, but they certainly take awhile.

Regarding FF6, I never really used Gau...ever. He was just annoying/ Locke didn't get useful unless you leveled him up A LOT.

gamingguy - what are you talking about? Shadow is one of the most useful characters in the game...you did wait for him on the island right?

You didn't explain WHY Shadow was useful?

I ranked my characters for the final battle: (1) Celes (2) Relm (3) Locke (4) Shadow (5) Terra (6) Gau (7) Setzer (8) Edgar (9) Strago (10) Sabin (11) Mog (12) Umaro

So yeah, I found Shadow to be useful too... for the final battle. But for the actual game (when Shadow didn't have any magic) I relied on Edgar, Celes, Terra, and Strago the most.

Suikoden 3 spoiler alert below.....well maybe.

I'm currently playing Suikoden 3 and the one fighter character that is useless is LuLu. Stupid bastard dies, is not one of the 108 stars of destiny and then the other characters could basically care less that he is dead. Ahhh then there's all the useless support characters but I won't mention them. :-D :-D
