I hear good things about all 3 games, but I am a person who likes my strategy games like FFTAdvance, where the battles do not contain anything beyond you main strategy elements, and I love leveling up. I know there are problems with all 3, but which one is the best to play first to get into the series?
I can get phantom brave for $20 btw.

Well, Disgaea's the best overall, but I suggest you play them in the order they were originally released in japan. La Pucelle, then Disgaea, then Phantom brave. All three are really excellent games, though ridiculously time-consuming. Disgaea alone took me 80+ hours to finish. And I barely scratched the surface of the side quests. :eek 2:

I actually prefer La Pucelle, but I'd agree that it's a good idea to play them in japanese release order just because some of the extra stuff makes a bit more sense that way. It really doesn't matter though, none of those games are big on sense.

I say do what everyone else is telling you.

Thing about Disgaea is that once you play it, Tactics wont be as fun and there will always be an unreasonable comparison between the 2. Why wasnt this as good as Disgaea, or why didnt it play better. Well, with the way both were released domesticly, it just couldnt be helped. Playing Tactics first will give you the chance to experience the battle system. Disgaea will let you see how well its been refined. Cant help you on Phantom Brave. I got it, but right now I have around 12 games I want to play before I get to that one.

Disgaea. I love how the game is set up. I liked the hub area, the geo effect (which have excellent rewards for learning it well), the item world, and the humorous storyline. It's some of the best strategy gameplay out there and the depth of gameplay within is staggering. A single item can provide hours of leveling. Personally I did not see anything I liked in Disgaea within La Pucelle. I've tried several times to play it but I just don't like the conversion system and the divine light thing (kinda the same as the geo effect).

Never played Phantom Brave so I have nothing to say there.

I agree with what someone else said about maybe not playing disgaea first. I think it's so superior to la pucelle that it made playing pucelle a bit harder. And la pucelle is by NO MEANS a poor game, it's great, IMO a lot better than FF Tactics, and probly a better story than disgaea honestly.

But time spent on both:
Disgaea - 100+ hours
Pucelle - 30-40 hours.

And I didn't do hardly ANYTHING extra on disgaea that I could have done. I did get all but 2 of the endings though.

Not that it matters. Atelier is a completely different type of game made by another company.

And I vote for Phantom, the games don't follow a chronological storyline and I really thought it was the best of the three, although they all rock.
