View Full Version : What is your favorite Final Fantasy, excluding VI and VII?

I picked FFIV. Obviously.

I personally feel that the character development and storyline was really leagues beyond all the others in the series. What might be my favorite aspect of the game though was the variety of characters abilities and the fact that you always had a set party. Members would come and go, die, grow up, or transform and each encounter with the umpteen different parties provided a certain challenge.

I'm seriously tiring of having gigantic 10 character casts that allow you to switch whenever you want. It really takes you out of the game to think that you've got 3 enemies infront of you, and 7 party members just sleeping without helping at all. No support, just like they're dead. But as soon as the monsters are gone, they're all alive!

The long ignored Final Fantasy IIIj for Famicom.

Dude where's the FF3DS info? If nothing happens within a year or two, my connections with Nintendo might be CUT.

Final Fantasy VIII is my favorite including VI and VII.

I went with IX. A lot of people seem to not like it, but I thought it was a pretty darned good RPG. I was certainly hooked on it. It's hard though once you take VI and VII out. The only Final Fantasies I don't like are VIII and X. I havent played X-2.

I ALMOST voted for Tactics. That game was cool too but I couldn't really get into the storyline.

Hopefully soon enough we'll be able to get our hands on it stateside on the DS. I've tried emulating but I always have troubles with corrupted saves and the like. Back before FF Anthology I sat down with FFV and plowed through about 6 hours in one sitting... the entire save system didn't even work. I saved, it told me I saved, and I came back the next day, booted up the rom and it just instantly went to the new game intro.

That sucked, but I did play through it in it's entirety last summer. Great game as well.

US III :D

...IX. After the _ness that was VII and VIII, IX was a refreshing look back at the rest of the series. Some of the best music in the series as well.

Agreed. IX had some really good music in it.

I'm going to have to give FF VIII another try sometime. Too many people say it's a good game for me to have dismissed it like I did, although I must have played at least 10 hours of it.

XI is my favorite by far. Very addicting, probably the best RPG I have ever played. I guess X would be second place, although it is a bit repetitive.

The original Final Fantasy Tactics without a doubt. That game is so good it makes me want to cry.

FF9 definitly, I loved the characters, environments, and especialy the ability system.

I also like FFTA, which I just started playing again. Boy I love how open ended this game is in terms of available jobs, any reccomendations on what jobs are really good later in the game?

Final Fantasy IV, without a doubt. I think hazeuschrist summed it up pretty well.

Final Fantasy VIII is my favourite FF overall.

Admittedly, I've only played VII and VIII. >.>

I've played 4, 5, 6, and own 7, 8, 9, and FFT. Haven't tried any for PS2.

8 is overall winner for me, if 6 and 7 are excluded. It was my first for the PS.

I also picked IV, obviously :D. V and IIIj would be next. I've played through every FF so far, and IIIj-VI are still my favorites in the series.

5 is my favorite even including the two you said to exclude.

5>3>4>10>6>9>2>1>8>7>11

I'm using the DoS versions of 1&2 for the purposes of this list, if it were the NES versions, it'd look like this

5>3>4>10>6>9>8>7>1>2>11

I though X had a good story a little easy compared to the rest of the series but the characters were pretty good, a lot more fleshed out then some of the games. ideally I'd have to say VII I Love that game. Play it about once a year!!!!

I voted FFT for PS1. Complex story, lots of diplomacy issues, all the stuff I like. Go figure it was developed by Quest :)

Speaking of Quest, I know Square-Enix absorbed them sometime after their GBA Tactics Ogre game, but I hope they get to continue making their Tactics Ogre and Ogre Battle games!!

Even with 6 and 7 in the poll, I would still choose 4. It has the best story of all the games, even with the poor translation of the original snes title. Plus there was so much hidden goodness, it took me several years to find it all.

Crystal Chronicles? I wouldn't vote for it, but it should still be on there.

otherwise I went for IV. IX was a close second.

Same thing happened to me as well. I gave it 2 tries, played up to around 10+ hours before I got bored of it. When I finally sat down and finished it on my third attempt, I realized that it simply wasn't worth it in the first place. So I'd say that if you didn't like the first 10 hours or so, chances are you won't like the rest of it either, so don't even bother. Just a friendly suggestion :)

Otherwise, I'd have to go with IX as well - it had all the imagination FF8 was lacking, and made me believe that the series was back on track. That is, until FFX came out :/

part 9 on PSOne has always been my fav that and 3 (US) SNES.

So far the PS2 versions I have not liked much heres hoping the last outing on PS2 will be better :)

My vote clearly goes to Final Fantasy IX. I love the story, the characters, the graphics are nice and the environment is more medieavel than sci-fi. I also like a lot of other FF games but even when you count all the games I've spend the most time with IX.

The problem is that it was such an intense letdown after FF7. I had it built up to be the bestest game ever, I had a huge website dedicated to it and I eagerly awaited it's release... I got it, plowed through it and realized it simply wasn't very memorable. Thinking back on it I can only recall a couple of moments from the game, whereas looking back on pretty much any other FF I can bring a dozen excellent plot twists and cool sequences to mind.

I'd have to say IV slightly edges out IX for my non-VI or VII favorite.

I really wish the other board I go to (mainly focused on current/next gen stuff) had the option for polls. It'd be such a contrast and I'd be willing to be Tactics would win over there and IX would get one, maybe two votes.

The only FF's I really liked were Vi, IX, and from what I've played of it, X.

I never really saw the big buzz about FF VII, it seemed boring and way too long and drawn out for my tastes.

I went with FF IX on this one.

It didn't age well... I loved it when I played through it the first time, but the second (and at one point, third) time I tried to play through it I got really bogged down and bored and couldn't take it.

I didn't care for Tactics much, when I play a game, one of the things I look for the most is a good story, and Tactics just didn't really appeal to me.

hezeuschrist

Tactics really had a fantastic story, but it's defeinitely one of those games that you've got to plow through in as short a period of time as possible to keep it all fresh as to who's with what faction and who's betraying who and why he was paid off to do whatever.

Super intricate, maybe too much for it's own good.
