AC Adapter at Fry's might work for TG-16/CD player combo's!

I'm not sure if this adapter will work or not, but they have a universal adapter at Fry's Electronics for $14.99 that might work with TG-16 and CD player combo's.

This would be pretty good news if these work, because finding a AC Adapter for the TG-16/CD unit combo is next to impossible. You pretty much need to buy a whole nuther TG-16/CD package just to get one.

The model # is PST1800MF


It can output 12V and 1800mA

The turbo/cd/docking station combo needs 11V 1530mA.

I'm guessing that 12V is close enough, and when it comes to the mA, you can go over, but not under. So I'm guessing the 1800mA is fine. It also comes with 6 different plugs, so one of them is likely to fit the docking station.


Now, I'm not really much of an expert when it comes to the center plug being negative and the outer plug being positive and all that jazz, so maybe somebody that knows about this stuff can do a google search on PST1800MF, and see if this looks like it would work.

For $14.99 at Fry's Electronics, if it works, then that's a great deal, cause again, trying to find the power brick that actually goes with it is like finding a holy grail.

Really? That's the first time I've heard that. But if this other AC Adapter works, then that would probably be a waste of time, considering you can buy this for $14.99 and you don't have to mod anything.

Well, the thing is that about two weeks or more ago, I won a TG-16/CD combo package off Ebay. It included the elusive Power Brick. The main reason that I bought it was just to get that damn power brick.

Supposedly it will be delivered on Wednesday.


So right now, I'm going to wait for that, and test out my gear with the real power brick. But I might have to get one of these and try it out, because I might have an extra Turbo CD combo package to sell to somebody else, but I'm going to need a power adapter to sell with it.

I would still like to hear from somebody that knows a little bit about wattage and ampage and all that crap, about whether or not this adapter would work.

No, it shouldn't because the Tg-16/CD unit has a tolerance for a little more or less. Usually around 20% or so.

I recently solved this same problem with omnedon's help. I got lucky finding the proper plug off of the AC adapter from an old external Zip drive (shown here (http://www.iomega.com/na/products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=5275&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=175317&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=63191&bmUID=1119324101078)). At the moment, I'm taking the power from a computer power supply (also 12V and works fine). The cable that I'm using was built on Friday. I only found out later that day that the GameCube has a suitable output rating and just needs the right connector to work with the TG16CD.

So basically, we need somebody to buy a bunch of GameCube power cables and mod them so that they can sell them to us for $20, so we will have a nice backup power supply.


Of course, if this $14.99 adapter from Fry's works good, then we can just get that thing.
