Well, I rented Batman Begins for XBOX the other day. Gotta love lazy summer days and Blockbuster's Gamer's Pass.

Actually, I think this game is pretty good, if a little stiff and pre-programmed. The best way for me to describe this game is that it's somewhat similar to Ninja Gaiden, but with some Splinter Cell and The Suffering thrown in for good measure.

Graphics and Sounds are very impressive, especially on the XBOX version (duh), but I must say that the GamePlay is very predictable and kinda pre-programmed if you know what I mean.

What I mean by pre-programmed, is that it's pretty damn linear, and there is almost too much guidance from the game explaining what you need to do.

I would like to try to immerse myself in the game world that they have created, but when they keep telling me to do this or that, I don't have the freedom to just explore the damn game. Maybe it's just cause I'm on the early levels, and this will change. I don't know.

One of the nice benefits of this game is that they got the real actors from the movie to do all the voices. Pretty damn quality production if you ask me. Liam Neeson and Christian Bale in the game look very much like their real life counterparts. Quite a bit better than say Revenge of the Sith, in terms of the characters actually looking very much like the real actors.

Some of the graphical things going on in this game is pretty damn amazing. In this one part of the game, very early on, there is a part of the game where it actually seems like you are playing a XBOX 360 game or something. I mean, the visuals during some short sequences appear to be beyond the power of the first XBOX. Don't get it twisted, I'm not saying that Batman Begins looks almost like a XBOX 360 game, what I'm saying is, is that in certain brief moments, it looks almost beyond normal XBOX technology.

Makes me think that there still is tons of life in the current XBOX.

So, what say you?

What say you?

Have at you! >_>

Maybe I would just get the game for the clips of the movie itself I thought the movie was that great.

This game is definitely worth a rental, so you guys should try it out, especially if you liked Ninja Gaiden.

As for the movie, I must say that ultimately I left the movie dissapointed overall. There were definitely some very good parts to the movie. Some parts were damn good. But I just didn't like the overall plot of the movie, with the guy wearing the bag over his head, and the hallucingen drugs and all that.

I thought that whole deal was pretty weak and lackluster if you ask me. I also thought that making Gotham look like a bunch of slums and stuff was kinda lazy and easy on their part too.

But again, I must say that some parts of the movie were very good, and I was thinking, "YES, Finally a good Batman Movie". But then when it got to the whole, "Guy with a bag on his head thing", I thought thats when the movie took a dive for the worst.

[Just so everyone knows, I am going to discuss the movie a bit... but I edited myself of almost all spoilers except very minor points, so if you want to read but haven't seen the movie yet (what are you waiting for?!?), it should be safe.]

Not to digress too far, but not all of Gotham was trhe slums. That was one section of Gotham called the Narrows. The rest of the city had some areas that were decent, and some that weren't. There was a large section of the city that was also below road-level, which was where most of the grittier parts of the city were.

In big cities, that works the same way. The city itself, especailly the parts underneath the roads, are the dirtiest and worst parts of town. For the most part cities have a bunch of amazing skyscrapers downtown but the people that work in them live in the suburbs. Gotham was also a very poor city, so having the slums be so large only makes sense. When visiting poor cities (East St. Louis and Gary spring to mind), it is most of the city that is slummy.

The whole deal with ScareCrow made about as much sense to me as any other comic book villain movie character has... and in my opinion, much more. It was essentially a blank slate for his victims to see whatever it was that most scared them. If he left his face there, the victims see things based on his face. We saw this later in the movie with the visions of the people who had been poisoned in the Narrows when Batman is drifting above the people. Using the mask makes the victims scared, and keeps them from attempting to attack what they see.

Again, it doesn't make perfect sense, but we're talking about movies where you've got bad guys that have eight mechanical arms to help perform nuclear tests (Spider-Man 2), can control metal through the use of extremely powerful magnetics (X-Men, X2) and so on. You have to suspend a little bit of disbelief for them. Perhaps Batman is different because the movie made you try to not suspend anything for the most part, but I loved it.

In my opinion, Batman was easily the best comic book movie to date. I'm really interested in the game, although between the $40.00 price point and the fact it say "EA" on it and is a licensed game (Lord of the Rings is such a sour taste still) that I kind of am worried about it. I'd like to hear some more opinions though, so carry on :)

No, you said why you hated the movie, as indicated by the way you said "as for the movie." The new movie is a hell of a lot more faithful to the character than Burton's take on the character, where Batman's a walking tank who can't move his head and whose parents were killed by The Joker. I don't care about the game, but discrediting a movie for being more faithful to its original source material than a cheesy late-80s movie is kind of weird.

This thread is sort of derailing and becoming more about the movie than the game, so here's my take. This is easily the best Batman movie that has come out. I liked the first Batman movie a lot, but this is more faithful to the original storyline. I thought it was a damned shame that they chose to add that little tie-in to the fiirst movie at the end of this one. It would have been better if they had not, as it would have left the door open for them to more easily create sequels based on this seperate storyline.

That wasn't a little tie-in to the first movie at the end of this one. That was a tie-in to the next Batman movie ;)

It makes sense to me that they would return to the Joker. There are only a certain number of really popular Batman characters, and the Joker would make a lot of sense as the next one to do. Personally, I can't wait.

This isn't 'Batman 5' as some people were calling it. This is truly Batman Begins (all over again). Thank God.

Exactly. If this was tied in with the 1989 movie, Jack Napier would have murdered the Waynes, not Joe Chill. The ending to this was actually modeled after the ending to a Frank Miller Batman book called "Year One."

The 1989 Batman Movie's storyline was based on something that the infamous director Tim Burton and screenwriter Sam Hamm had put together.

Sam had warped the entire storyline around and Tim only fueled the fire by adding his own unique directorial/filmmaking twist to it.

Personally, I prefer Frank Miller's take on Batman as opposed to the stories done for Batman, Batman Returns and the following Batman Films, which IMHO, although were entertaining to a degree, sucked royal ass cheese.

But that is another rant for another topic.

As for the game, Batman Begins, I got to playtest it for a focus group about 3 months ago. I was impressed by it then and I can honestly say that it's one of the better Batman movie related game titles out there.

FYI: I'm also very sure that our focus group was responsible for letting people who buy the game also score a free ticket to see the movie in theaters, especially since we recommended it. :D

Yes. The previous number of Batman movies...oh god

How long ago was it that a bunch of comic books (uh, Superman too) got rebooted? Mid-90s?
