Namco's latest fighter makes its PAL debut this Friday, and I'm debating as to when I should buy this. Is it good enough to warrant buying it as soon as possible? Or should I wait?
I've not seen any mention of Tekken 5 around these boards, so I'm dying to know what you guys make of this game.
Thanks.

I've played the game yesterday (some shop had the game in the PS2 demo-setup) and i must say i was impressed with it. Graphically i thought it was better than Tekken 4 and the controls also felt better (more like Tekken Tag). Unfortunately i was shopping with my girlfriend so i could only try it out for a few minutes before she came looking for me...
I will certainly be buying the game as soon as it comes out, but then again, i am a Tekken-nut (i have all the Tekken games) so i would probably also buy it if it would really suck :D

If you're a fan of Tekken games, get it. It's a lot of fun and looks gorgeous. Couple of the new characters aren't half bad. I mean, it's no Tekken 3, but then again, what is besides Tekken 3? At least it's not Tekken 4 :)

I really wish they have an option to stop the exploding floors, but in the scheme of things, tekken 5 is more like 3 than 4, which is a good thing.
so if you like 3 more than 4 then go for it

with the risc of going a little bit off-topic, but what is it that people don't seem to like Tekken 4? The best one is ofcourse Tekken Tag Tournament, but Tekken 4 is on a shared 2nd place with Tekken 3 IMHO. The only problems i have with it are that it missed the the tag element (2 vs. 2 rocked) and that it's a little slower than TTT but for the rest it's a good game too

Thanks for your opinions.
Hopefully Tekken 5 will fill the void left by the original Tekkens and Soul Calibur. I actually think Soul Blade is my favourite fighter of all time, for the record.
Anyway, I guess I'll pick this up. I shouldn't, really. I know there are plenty more games I want that I could get for the amount I will spend on Tekken 5 - but hey, I'll treat myself!

I bought ps2 just for Tekken 5, I love this game. It has a lot of difficulty levels and newly added moves for characters, but w/o even learning the new moves I beat it on the hardest level w/o much trouble - so I wish that ultra hard, would really be just that.
They have a story mode where you get ranked and your goal I'm assuming is to be ranked #1. I fought over 20 battles (always picking the highest ranked person to fight) and I was only like ranked #6 after it, I don't know if I could have saved my status or what, or how many I need to fight to be #1.
As for Tekken 4, to me it was like Tekken 3.5 and for whatever reason I also just didn't like it that much. I think Tekken 3 is a great game, but I very rarly play it now that I have 5.

Tekken 4 was one of the most unbalanced fighters I have ever played. While the game looks great, it did little to change the gameplay of the series. The background interaction was more of a "pin your opponent to a corner and juggle him". The story was just strange, and it just did not do it for me. I have to pay Tekken 5 more, but from what I played of it, they have fixed many of the issues people had with the previous game.

Remember, Tekken 5 also contains the Original Arcade versions of Tekken 1, 2 & 3!!
Also, the loading screen for the game lets your play Starblade! (instead of galaga). Very cool indeed.

Great point & including old arcade versions during load time was something great to bring back (don't know why it ever went away). Although the load times on Tekken 5 are very short anyways imo.

Tekken 5 is the shit, I've been playing it since it came out in the arcades and have been playing it every weekend since it came out. I take road trips up to WI just to play people. I try to make it to every tournament I can. It's such an awesome game. BUY IT.

The game arrived yesterday, and it is bloody awesome. Easily the best fighter since Soul Calibur. It's wonderful. The fighting is franatic and the game is beautiful. And playing as Raven is an absolute pleasure. Thanks Namco :)
