I've seen this title on Ebay a few times already, how is it like? Plus, why aren't we getting a US or European release of this one?

I believe it is being lined up for Europe release.

It's also lined up for a US release as Space Invaders Revolution, if I remember. Supposed to come out in August or September.

just though i'd bump this topic up from the grave... has anyone actually seen this game in stores here in the US yet? the scheduled release date was august 23rd, but gamestop and eb's webpages don't even list the title at all!

I haven't seen it at any of the stores in my area, nor have I seen any updated release info.

It probably isn't worth 19.99. It probably isn't worth 1.99.

Actually, it's quite decent, especially for the pricetag. It plays just like the old Space Invaders just with different enemy situations and different backgrounds for each level. I would recommend it as IMO it's better than the last couple Space Invaders incarnations and is comparible to Space Invaders DX.

i even went into gamestop to see if they had it today, they didn't even have a listing for it in their computer! as much as i dislike walmart, i might just have to stop in there a bit later to pick myself up a copy of this..... walmart grrrrr.

I found moving your ship/gun with the stylus to be rather tedious and unresponsive. The game seemed slow to react, resulting in unecessary deaths. Like someone else said, the game is probably not worth $19.99, maybe $1.99. I would pass.

It's on Amazon, but not from Amazon / Toys R Us...

How does it compare to the GBA Space Invaders? I really enjoyed it's style compared to the other remakes of SI.

I haven't tracked one down yet in any retail stores but WalMart online has it in stock. I'm wondering if the production level is sub-Nanostray (50K, confirmed by Majesco insiders). Smallest GBA runs were 20K, so this could be in line with that.

None of the big box retailers seemingly stock this game, I found mine at gamecrazy and while not being the best game in the world...and certainly not needing the stylus, I would recommend tracking it down for the potential collectability.

well, i think i've more or less exhausted the local avenues to get this game... gamestop, eb, blockbuster, walmart, TRU, FYE, media play..... no one has it.
i can order it from TRU through amazon.com, so i think i might just end up doing that.... and i guess this is a heads up, i think this one definitely will be a rarity in the future...

Well, there's a few game crazy's around here...why not call em up and see if they carry it?
I'm probably gonna do that when I get paid.

have you tried going to a few different walmarts? that's what i had to do... the 2 that are closest to me didn't carry the game, but a farther away one, closer to where i work, had a ton of copies.
just a suggestion...

problem is, i only have one walmart near me... next closest is about a half hour away, and it's not worth the gas at that point.
HOWEVER. special thanks to davidbrit for the heads up, i went and checked out my local Meijer (a MI/OH/IN/IL walmart superstore type chain), and they had 3 copies in stock. and i now have one in my possesion. rock and roll... gonna give it a shot in a few here.

Yeah, just got back from Meijer with my copy too. It seems pretty damned sweet. The original arcade version is mostly dead on, with a couple liberties taken with the screen arrangement (score and lives are on the bottom screen, for example). Bass response from the DS isn't the greatest, so the marching invaders don't quite have that same thumping sound. The updated version is really cool, with some nice music and visuals, and a very well animated 3D intro. I haven't dug too far into it yet, but it appears that you have a bunch of missions that you go clear, each comprised of a few stages. Kind of like the advancement in Syndicate or C&C Red Alert, I guess. Heh. So it's not a terribly large game, but definitely worth it if you like Space Invaders.

OK I finally tried it out. I think it's pretty good especially if you're a SI fan. :)
First of all they changed the counting system! That rocks! But it's still there.. just increase your counts by ONE and you'll be hitting 300 pt UFO's consistently. I think that's great they decided to fuck w/ fans by doing that... it gives it just enough of a twist that will throw you off if you go in just trying the same old 25 year old techniques :)
The other stuff is in there as well.. the Wall Of Death works just like it did in the arcade. And of course the little rainbow trick. They also kept the 'Rainbow" effect when you do the trick in the 'arranged' Space Invaders as well so that's a nice touch.
Also there seems to be some kind of running point total in the beginning when you shoot a UFO.. we'll have to see what that's all about...... :hmm:

Anyone still looking for SI should check EB. It's now listed on the web site and was in the one store I checked last night. They're also stocking Nanostray now.

yeah, after playing throught it, it's definitely a must-have i'd say. even with short play time through the modern version.
ne146: the cumulative score lets you use the "special abilities" on the touch screen during the modern mode. rapid fire, speed up, etc. more points you get, the more of those abilities you will have.
