Hello everyone

Well, yesterday (21st) was my Birthday. Dont worry, this isnt just a random thread where i expect you to say 'happy birthday gunstar etc' (although itd be nice :P ) I have some questions to ask of you. Anyway, i'll show you some pics before i continue.

First things first. I decided to treat myself to some current gen goodies. Nothing too exciting, bought it all cheaply from ebay & play-asia:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/nintendo-joe/pspgc.jpg

Now the exciting part. As my Dad was in town to pick up an iPod mini for myself. He popped into a local independent gamestore. They were moving the store around, and my Dad say a bunch of imports on the floor and he knew i loved all things japapnese so after a bit of haggling, he picked the following up for me for the outrageously low price of £25:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/nintendo-joe/barcodebattler.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/nintendo-joe/famciom.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/nintendo-joe/famicomcapcompad.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/nintendo-joe/markIII.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/nintendo-joe/msx.jpg

Now for some questions.

1. What is the famicom capcom pad thingy? What does it do? How much is it worth?

2. How much are the other bits worth? Anything paticularly meaty? I thought the Mark III games were sought after.

Anyway, enough rambling. I look forward to hearing your responses to my queries.

Thanks guys,

Joe. :)

Happy birthday man! Ya certainly got a nice haul there! :)

The Mark III silver cart is probs worth a bit more than the others, despite the fact that there's a Spanish guy on eBay with a seemingly never-ending supply of them. He sells them for about $30 a pop.
The other Mark III games would probably sell for around $10-$20 each. (There's a couple I haven't got there, so drop me a line if you're looking to part with any ;) )

Not really sure about the rest, but that SFC Barcode Battler is pretty cool. I remember reading about it in Super Play back in the day ;) I suspect the Capcom pad is a Mah-Jong controller, but I'll let someone more clued-in confirm that...

Thanks James. I'll keep you in my mind for the Mark III games.Yeah i was thinking it was a mah-jong peripheral of some-sort. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks Adam & Nick for your birthday wishes. I got them in a local independent game-store. There usually really expensive but, this time they were moving the store around and just wanted to clear space. Result!

Now that is what I call a Happy B-day!! Back in April, when it was my B-day I asked the question of what cool videogame stuff people get for their B-day and got next to NO response and had a mod dump on the thread because he didn't understand that I was asking a question. All I got was a very sarcastic happy b-day.
But this is exactly what I was talking about. Cool goodies for your B-day! Congrats on the great gifts and.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
:D :D :D

Happy burthday, man. 8-) Cool stuff, there...and in pretty good nick, to boot. ;)

Also whats with that barcode thing hehe.
I believe it's sort of like Pokemon, only you can create fighters, characters, items, whatever by scanning barcodes. I seem to recall reading that it was a fad in Japan at some point, and some random book made the bestseller list because the barcode on it gave you an uber-powerful character.

The Capcom controller thing is definitely a Famicom mahjong controller. Most arcade mahjong games have control panels that look like that, but I haven't seen them for any home systems other than the NeoGeo before...

Barcode Battler was a big Fad for a while (There was a Handheld Barcode battler...
Basically you could cut out any barcode (For exampel the barcode on a tin of baken beans) scan it through, and from that a character/fighter would be created...

picture....

http://www.retrogames.co.uk/stock/assets/images/HH_-_Barcode_battler_2.jpg

SO basically, the game was set around finding the best barcode of them all....

(I used to own the original Handheld Barcode battler, and at this point in time, everysingle item in the house that had a barcode had been attacked...)

special cards were included like this

http://www.redshirt.co.uk/computers/barcode/bar11.JPG

these already had barcodes on the back...

Was a fun device back in the day and supported 2 player... if i see one around im gonna pick it up!

Hey

The shops called 'X Electrical' its in Kingston. Sound familiar? Its all musical equipment downstairs and a nice little game store upstairs. They have some really nice stuff but, they are quite expensive. I just got lucky this time. :P
A nice selection of import, retro and current-gen stuff.

Joe. :)

I think that with online gaming and everything, it's high time for another barcode-based game.

They could make it so much more advanced this time around...

And Nice finds! How is Warioware Twisted? I was thinking of buying that game, but since i tried tilting my DS around i was not so sure, since if i dropped it, I'd be in a mess.

I was in there 2-3 weeks ago and none of that stuff was there, so someone must have traded it in recently. Dang. Still, props to you for picking it up :)

The Barcode Battler systems are neat, but not very rare/valuable. I had an SNES one that I sold complete with a stack of cards and the game cart for around $25 boxed complete. The Mark III stuff is, as was stated, high demand, but not because it's valuable, mostly only because it's hard to find. There's several in there that look neat :D

As for the other stuff... that weird Fami pad looks like Mahjong. I wouldn't be surprised if Nemesis 2 for MSX was worth a bit too but I"m not sure :D

Nice stuff!

This is pretty funny to read if you search and find the crappy thread he's talking about. LOL

Anyway Gunstar, happy birthday and nice scores! It's always nice when a friend or relative appreciates your game collection enough to add to it!

Thanks Rob! Yeah I love getting gaming gifts from buddies/relatives!

Thanks for everyone elses birthday wishs also.

I like it a lot, although it is hard to play it on the DS, i find it much nicer playing it on my SP. And if you dont already have 'Touched!', Id say get that before Twisted. :)

Oh cool, where abouts in London are you situated Mayhem? And as were on the topic of good game stores in London, have you been to the Compter Excahnge Retro down Rathbone Place recently? It used to be so good, but last time I was there, it was a real dissapointment. Although they had a bunch of Japanese PSX games for 89p which stupidly I passed on. But, the rest of there great retro stuff had gone.

Yeah actually it is pretty funny, considering Capt Yashiro missed the point entirely and killed my thread in the off topic forum and this thread is thriving in the video gaming forum.
My question still exists though! I'd love to see some of the cool things people get for their b-days like Gunstar got!

I always say "Londonish" because it's a place everyone should have heard of, and no need to go explaining exactly where I live :P

At the moment I'm in Ewell, though I will soon be going over to Cheam (once the new place is finalised and some redecorating work performed).

So Kingston is merely 5 or so miles away...

I actaully went round CEX and Game Focus the weekend just gone, looking for some bits and pieces. You're right, there's nothing much left at CEX for me to get, and what stuff I might want, is overpriced compared to paying for it elsewhere.

I did however pick up some cheapish games at Game Focus though...

Driven (US GC) £4
Smashing Drive (US GC) £6
R-Type Final (PAL PS2) £10
Streetfighter Alpha (US PS1 longbox) £5
