I am a huge fan of FFT:A, so I was wondering if I would like this game as well. The only thing I am cautious of is that your characters can die forever, does this work well?
Any feedback on the game is appreciated!

Weeeell, from what I've heard, It's essentialy more of the same. So if you liked the 1st GBA fire emblem, then you'll like this. I really, really wanted to like fire emblem, but the whole "characters can permanently die" thing was just a complete turn-off. I kept having to restart battles and crap. I would suggest renting it first, if at all possible.

Then two words for ya dude: Shining Force. The best TRPG series... You're characters can die and then you can revive them at the sanctuary. Definately a must have.

No way, Shining Force doesn't have a thing on the Fire Emblem series. In fact, Shining Force probably wouldn't of even exist if it wasn't for Shouzou Kaga, Gunpei Yokoi and the Fire Emblem games.

As for the whole "Permanent death" thing. That's the best part. It makes the game much more tense and strategic.

I have to say Shining Force is better. Ive only played it on the Genesis, but its the only strategy RPG that I've played that also allows you to explore and walk around like a more "traditional" RPG. I agree the Fire Emblem is good, but I also dont like that characters can permanently die. This would not be too bad if you could level up characters, but there are no repeatable battles to do this. I have heard that the new Fire Emblem is better about this, but Ive never played it.

Personally, I think it's friggin awesome that the characters die forever. It makes the game FAR more challenging, and different every time! There are always enough other characters to replace em too. It's like saying that you get upset when you get a "game over" in a game, so they should make games easier so as not to make you feel bad. Bah I say. Tough it out, that's the point! Your troops die in real battles and don't come back, so why shouldn't they in strategy games?

As much as I love the Shining Force series, the Fire Emblem series has it beat, and Shining Force wouldn't exist if not for Fire Emblem.

I like the permanent death thing, even if it's frustrating sometimes. It's a good challenge, and it allows for people to play the game in different ways. Plus it actually feels like an accomplishment just keeping them alive. In the second Fire Emblem for Super Famicom, you could see interesting things happen between characters if you manage to keep both alive. Like characters can fall in love and have a child. Stuff like that. Pretty nifty reward. And while I don't know about the GBA games, I know at least one of the Fire Emblem games allowed you to revive a character once somehow.

The new Fire Emblem game is awesome. If you didn't like the other one for the GBA, maybe you'll like this one better. It changes a few things. For example, you now have promotion choices and you can freely wander around the world map and engage in other battles. Characters still permanently die, but IMO that makes FE good because you can't be reckless, adding to the strategy. FE isn't that hard anyway, so that won't really be that frustrating.
