My favorite games for the systems were House of the Dead 2, and Confidential Mission. I love shooting games. I actually hooked up my Dreamcast at my school's fall carnival and and had my students play House of the Dead. It's amazing how many parents will beg to let their children play the game. I kept telling them it was only for adults, but they kept insisting, so I let them play. I also loved all the Sonic games especially Sonic Adventures 2. DC Rocks for Emulators.

Dreamcast....I loved it and I still do. I remember the reason I bought it in the first place...I wanted a chance to play Phantasy Star Online. I went to the store spent 99 bucks on the Cast, 20 bucks on the Keyboard, like 10 for a VMU and 50 for PSO. Thats was all the money I had at the time. Anyway I go home and hook it all up, get online, tell my mom I'm not hungry, and start playing. I was floored. Best game I ever played. Next day at school I tell all my buddies about it. No one owned a Dreamcast yet but 5 of them went out and got one that night. Next 6 months or so was spent with my friends fighting on Ragol. I've played a bunch of other games on it since and am happy to own one but that was the best time I had with my Dreamcast and one of my fondest gaming memories.

Favorite Game. Crazy Taxi, I know that's a cop out, but it really was!
Other Favorites. Soul Calibur, Oogaa Booga NHL 2k2 and Power Stone 2
Ecco Surprised me with such great graphics and really vague gameplay.
The first time I saw the system in action was SA, the first game I played was Soul Calibur, I said to a buddy of mine. That...Isn't... FMV!
I have about 25 games. Bought it around the time Ecco came out.

I love the DC :lovin: . I have roughly 50 games for it and enjoy almost all of them. My favorite game for the DC by far however is Skies of Arcadia. Quite simply the best RPG I've played in years, and in my humble opinion it's better than any game released after the playstation. It's still the most recent rpg I've finished basically cause I couldn't put it down for more than a day or two. With a perfect mix of turn based and strategy combat, along with the balance of linear and free exploration I simply cannot recommend this game highly enough.

As far as Dreamcast stories go, I still smile when I think of the time I had some friends over to play some games on my PS2. But before we started I made them play with the dreamcast first. We are a "fighter" crowd so we ran the gammut starting with Soul Calibur and ending with Power Stone, with Marvel vs. Capcom, Virtua Fighter, and Third Strike in between. They were already impressed but when I threw in the NesterDC emu disc they were absolutely floored.

Needless to say my PS2 never turned on that night. 8-)

The Dreamcast will always be my favorite system. In a way it's funny becuase until the DC was released, Sega was never on my radar. I grew up with Nintendo and switched over to Sony when the N64 was released. But the little white system that got the shaft changed all that.

Some of my favourite games on the system are Quake 3, Hydro Thunder and Super Runabout SF Edition.

The first time I saw the system in action I was surprised by how loud the drive was. I thought my system was messed. I liked the controllers and it was nice to see it released with a modem.

I used to have about 90 games for the DC but had to part with them. Most of them are now owned by other board members so that makes me feel a little better about it.

The clincher for me buying the system when I did was seeing it in the Sears Wishbook and in the catalog of games there was Half Life. That was it..... decision made and I owned it 2 weeks later. After numerous delays I was still disappointed when Half Life was finally cancelled.

I sold my PC at the time, for 300$, which at the time was how much a new DC was( in Can dollars), at the height of the Y2K scare(11/01/99). I bought my Dreamcast which was Y2K safe and proceded to play some of the best games of all time (THPS 2 my fav, but totally love Soul Caliber, Vanishing Point, and Speed Devils. Of course Sonic is a huge factor too) but I also had the ability to use the DC to surf the net and check my email. I even downloaded a song which I recorded to a cassette. HA! Old school technology on a new hi tech game system. It worked well for me as the only connection I could get at the time was dial up. Funnier yet was the computer I sold crashed in Feb. 00 . Guess it wasn't Y2K compliant after all!
Love the DC!
I currently have about 80 games and all the official DC magazine discs, as well as the Generator discs and the 3 Bleemcast discs.
4 official controllers, keyboard and mouse, light gun, arcade controller with rollerball.
Definately one of the best systems of ALL time. Too bad it wasn't more well received than it was. A very nice present for SEGA to leave their fans everywhere with as a last hurrah in the console world.

I bought a DC on launch day, had been saving every dollar i could since about April to eventually end up with $367 to buy the system and some games on launch day. only game i can remember picking up on launch day was sonic adventure.. i know i bought like 2 or 3 more , and put KOF 99 dream match on reserve, but i cant remember what they were. i remember freaking out for the 4 or 5 days leading up to 9.9.99 launch date. when i got home that night and popped in sonic adventure i was blown away. the first level in that game still amazes me to this day, especially the segment when you are on the bridge and the whale is chasing you.
favorite game for DC would have to be... Shenmue, if not for DC that game would have never been possible, and im still incredibly saddened that shenmue 3 most likely will never be released.,
other games i loved for DC, were the numerous Neo Geo ports, and all the awesome shmups, jet grind radio, powerstone 1 and 2, evolution, and too many more to name.
such a great system, never got the recognition it deserved, and we never got to see the system truely pushed to its limits, i salute you Dreamcast, you were the last system to truely leave me in awe.

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Shenmue
- What are some of your other favorites?
Sonic Adventure, World Series Baseball
- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Shenmue, didn't look appealing to me at first.
WWF Royal Rumble infuriated me, the game was horrible!
- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
I played Sonic Adventure at a demo station, first reaction thinking how this was so much better Playstation (Now looking back, it really wasn't)
- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now? No, played it at friends houses
- How many games do you have for it?N/A
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us? I killed my friend in NBA 2k when it first came out.

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes

- What are some of your other favorites?
Grandia 2, Power Stone, Soul Caliber, Bangai-o, Virtua Tennis

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Toy Commander really surprised me. Hearing about the idea behind the game and even looking at the case, I wasn't sure if they could capture the feeling of playing with all those toys, but they really pulled it off quite well. But at the same time I guess it could be labeled as a game that infuriated me...there were plenty of times where the controls would screw me over, but I would still keep going back to it.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
The first time I saw the DC was my freshman year of college (1999-2000). One guy on the floor had one and all he did was play NBA2K. I played it a couple of times and had a blast...but at the time I had my N64 and PS and I was perfectly happy with those. The DC kind of just became an afterthought.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
I didn't buy my Dreamcast until I think 2003 (might have been 2004).

- How many games do you have for it?
I have 13 games for the system. Theres still alot I don't know about the system, and theres some games I want to try out before I buy them. I have some time. ;)

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
Nope :P

Dreamcast... Bought it on release day, never really played it x_x

What is your favorite game on this system?
Good question, I would go with Jet Grind Radio. Picked it up when it was 20$ and played it for a fairly long time. Pretty good cel-shaded game

- What are some of your other favorites?
Played PSO for a bit. Never got the opportunity to play it online, but offline it was ok. It was my friends game, so he kinda showed me the ropes. I also liked Sega Bass Fishing for a little while

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Jet Grind Radio. At the time I was just out of my rollerblade skater punk phase and picked up JGR to kill some time. It really turned out to be a good game. The most infuriating game on the DC for me was NFL 2K2. Just didnt "do it" for me

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
I remember buying it on launch day at Kay-Bee toys with my old college roomate. We went back to my pals apartment at college, made 2 bags of french fries with cheese and ranch dressing, drank lots of beers and played ready to rumble and some demo disc for a long ass time. After about 10 hours of playing, we were all to mangled to play anymore

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Yes, got it at launch. Still own the original, still complete. Plus I picked up a couple at Goodwill for 5$ each.

- How many games do you have for it?
There for a while I sold pretty much everything I had for DC on eBay. Ended up getting about 20 or so DC games from Tylerwillis here at DP about a month ago. I would say I'm into the "collecting" for DC now.

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
Hmmm, not really. Mainly the cheese fries ordeal :)

- What is your favorite game on this system?

I can't say ive played that many games, but out of what i played it has to be jet grind radio

- What are some of your other favorites?

Gigawing, sonic adventure, episode 1 racer
- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?

I thought Jet Grind Radio was pretty cool, being cel shaded and all. Havent played enough to be pissed at any games.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

This would beback in 99, in blockbuster. The kiosk had Sonic adventure in it. I thought it looked much better in terms of graphics, and the system itself looked awesome. Wasnt too fond of the controller at the time though.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

Didnt own it until a few years ago, when i bought one off of a friend at school for $35 with about 12 games.

- How many games do you have for it?

about 15

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

What is your favorite game on this system?
Soul Calibur

What are some of your other favorites?
Bangai-O, Chu Chu Rocket, Daytona USA 2001, Dead or Alive 2, The House of the Dead 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Metropolis Street Racer, San Francisco Rush 2049, Sega Rally 2, Shenmue, Sonic Adventure, Tokyo Highway Challenge 2, Worms Armageddon.

What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Daytona USA 2001 surprised me the most. The fact that a home version existed that wasn't crap was mind-blowing. Infuriated? Nothing springs to mind.

Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
Sega Rally 2, which remains my second favourite game on the console to this day. I played it at a computer show in September 1999 and I fell in love instantly.

Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
I never had the money to buy one, and the only way I could've got one was to trade my N64. After the pain of doing that with me SNES, I just couldn't part with it. I got my first Dreamcast in January 2003. Later in the year I got a second one. My first one doesn't run on 60Hz on my TV properly.

How many games do you have for it?
Currently 32.

Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
Just that my first Dreamcast didn't work (kept resetting). People said that it might be the power supply contacts. I opened it up to find the console filled with cigarette ash and some hideous goo. @_@

I disassembled it entirely and steralised every single component. It's worked like a 'dream' ever since. :P

Ahh the dreamcast....such memories and such a great first impression. I shall now answer your questions:

What is your favorite game on this system?

Marvel vs Capcom 2. While it's not as refined as some of the other fighters on the system, it's still probably my favorite one. Huge amounts of characters, fast frantic action, and tons of stuff to unlock that can keep you coming back for a LONG time. While sometimes it does equate to a button masher, rather than more of a deep fighter, I can load it up anytime and enjoy the hell out of it.

What are some of your other favorites?

When it comes to the dreamcast, most of my favorite games are all the 2d fighters. I love the King Of Fighters series, Fatal Fury, Last Blade 2. There's so many other games I consider favorites on the system it's too hard to list them all. I love all the arcade style games it has like Crazy Taxi, Super Turnabout, House of the Dead 2 and the excellent shooters such as Mars Matrix, Gunbird 2, and Giga Wing.

Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

I'll never forget the first time I saw the system when it debuted. I was in the mall passing by the local KB Toys and right near the entrance I saw a ton of people standing around the dreamcast kiosk playing Ready to Rumble boxing. The graphics were AMAZING. So fluid and detailed, even blowing away the n64. I remember standing there for about a minute in awe of this amazing new console.

Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

I never owned a system when it came out, but before I even started seriously collecting and before I even knew about this site, I was in an EB Games one day and decided I wanted to finally try out a dreamcast. This was back when eb games and gamestops everywhere carried multitudes of dreamcast games. I remember walking into funcolands and they'd have a whole wall of dreamcast games, probably 50-100 titles at any given time....man, how tough it's become in just a few years to even find a place with a decent amount of DC games.

How many games do you have for it?

I currently have 90 games for the system, which includes a few imports. Like I said earlier, it's becoming harder and harder around here in AZ (even with all the game stores around) to find DC games. Most pawn shops will only carry a sports game or two and even my local gamezone has pretty much cleared them out. So, it's become more of a big focus for me in collecting and I always pick up a title when I find it for a decent price out in the wild or online. My friend Nez has a near complete collectiong and I'm hoping I can accomplish the same before it gets any harder to find decent games for it.

What is your favorite game on this system?
Phantasy Star Online

- What are some of your other favorites?
Dead or Alive 2
RE Code: Veronica
Soul Calibur
Slave Zero
Crazy Taxi

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Hydro Thunder....it could have been so much more. Soul Calibur was THE game to buy.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
Soul Calibur--Must... buy.... Dreamcast

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Yes, I bought it a week after launch; but I no longer own it now.

- How many games do you have for it?
I had about 8...I think.

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
I bought Soul Calibur and an extra controller a week before I bought the system...just to make sure I had it.

- What is your favorite game on this system?

Crazy Taxi (1), I started playing it in 2001 and I'm still playing it today, trying to achieve $100,000

- What are some of your other favorites?

Too many to mention, especially those unique like Shenmue, Power Stone, all Capcom 2D fighters/shooters.

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?

Most 4 player games, like Power Stone 2, a blast to play with 3 others. Infuriated? Not really, I knew which games suck, when I first played ECW Hardcore Rev it was so bad that it almost hurts.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

At launch, it was Pen Pen Tricelon, the graphics are gorgeous, I didn't get into Dreamcast until the first drop in 2001 and released of some arcade titles.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

Owned first one in 2001, now I have 5 systems, 4 new in box and never opened.

- How many games do you have for it?

All 247 US titles sealed plus 125+ doubles to play, I was lucky I work at stores that cleared out new DC games at insane prices between 99 and 2002, enabling me to get 2 copies easily.

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

Not really, but unlike most gamers, I'm glad EA didn't support DC, which means I didn't have to get all the junks they make. On the other hand, imagine if DC was sucessful in US, we'd all be playing Super Monkey Balls, Outrun 2, Sonic sequals/compilations, PSO on DC now.

I tried to also collect Jp DC games but they're actually quite expensive and have huge cult following in Japan. Been spoiled with cheap DC games here, new/sealed games on eBay are running scarce now, perhaps it has to do with ridiculous eBay fees and low yields.

Dreamcast is what Saturn didn't have (near perfect arcade ports) but made up, yet with what Saturn's most unwanted (FMV junks) gone.

What is your favorite game on this system?
Has to be hands down Soul Calibur

What are some of your other favorites?
Crazy Taxi
NFL2K
Gauntlet Legends
House of the Dead 2

What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Honestly, Soul Calibur. Seeing that game boot up caused everyone in the room to be silent. Then seeing that the opening sequence was practically (or was) in real time made jaws drop. Excellent game.

Infuriated? Hydro Thunder. That game was way too short.

Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
I only saw online movies and screen shots. I convince my group of friends (who usually chipped in to buy a system) to go with the Dreamcast rather than wait for the PS2. As for the first game, see my answer to the question above.

Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Yep, purchased 9/9/1999. The original we as a group bought is over at my bro and sister-in-law's house in a box. I have my own with a few games.

How many games do you have for it?
Right now about four. A couple years ago I sold off a larger collection as I needed the money.

Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
The best story I can think of was when my now brother-in-law bought NFL2K and we were playing it in my wife's parents' basement (general hang-out spot for us: my buddy still lived at home and my wife's sister also lived at home and we owned cats which my buddy is allergic to sooo...). My father-in-law came downstairs to get something from the fridge but stopped to see what was on TV. He walked over the hang-out area and sat on one of th e chairs and watched for like fifteen minutes. Then he asked "Are you watching a recording of a football game?" We told him it was a video game and he just looked stunned. He sat there for about another half hour watching, which is odd as this guy really doesn't like video games-playing or watching.

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Skies of Arcadia

- What are some of your other favorites?
Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage, Soul Calibur, Shenmue, Sonic Adventure, Virtua Fighter 3, Phantasy Star Online.

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Boy was I happy/surprised about the nice flow of Gundam games, and of course Berserk! Not to mention amazing fighter after fighter. Oh and Seaman, gotta love Seaman. Oh and Typing of the Dead (This one really surprised me).

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
A short while after release, went to my local EB and played Power Stone. I was blown away, the graphics were amazing for what I was used to, and interactive enviornments, I was in love.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Though, I really would have loved to have one, I had instead chose to save every penny I had so I could get a PS2 at launch. (I did not have a job at the time.) Though now I do own a Dreamcast and it is a system I play at least a few times a week.

- How many games do you have for it?
Around 30, maybe 40, I only got mine a few months ago, so I'm just starting my collection.

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
Nope.

My DC story actually begins before the DC. I had just gotten the Saturn in the middle of August 1999, and I was liek teh OMG SEGA kicks ass. I had gotten the Saturn a couple weeks before my 14th birthday with early birthday money I acquired. It was when I was getting some old Saturn games (and 3D analog controllers!) at Electronics Boutique a couple of days later that I first saw the DC. At first I saw a video demo of Virtua Fighter 3tb, but then I played Ready 2 Rumble. I was amazed by how good it looked. Then I played that fishing game. Unfortunately, some little bastard broke the fishing controller earlier in the day, so I used the regular controller instead. It was fun. The cool thing was that it was partially in Japanese. It was on my birthday, the 28th, that I went to Toys R Us and played a prerelease version of Sonic Adventure. I NEEDED A DREAMCAST!

9/9/99 rolled around, and it was a really hot day. I stepped outside the door in the morning to go to school, and I practically collapsed. It was that hot. So I stayed home and played Sonic 3 and Knuckles with my new sound system. That was awesome.

December 1999. I was feeling optimistic. I saw Official Dreamcast Magazine #3 at a store, and I got it. I had no system to play the demo disc on, but it was all right. I hoped to get a DC for Christmas. Also, it was the issue with Dead or Alive 2 on the cover. Let's just say that I didn't spend a lot of time reading that magazine ;)

Christmas 1999. I woke up at 5AM. I jumped on my dad's nuts while he was sleeping. My mom thought I was a murderer. Hilarity ensued. I got my DC, WWF Attitude, and Marvel Vs. Capcom. But what did I play first? The Street Fighter Alpha 3 demo on that magazine demo disc I got earlier in the month. You see, I had been playing SFA3 in the arcades, and I couldn't wait for the DC home version. It didn't come out until around May of 2000! Anyway, I also played MvC and Attitude. I was upset, though. I was expecting some internal memory like what the Saturn had. That's why I didn't ask for a VMU. I wasn't able to save my data until a couple days later. But that was just a small problem. Aside from the career mode in Attitude, there was nothing that really needed to be saved anyway, and taking some time to get used to Attitude before I got into the career mode was a good thing.

I got DOA2 in April 2000. I had just moved into a new house, and my parents said they would get me a game. I had to explain to them that it wasn't ultra-violent like Mortal Kombat, and I eventually convinced them. Then I left the demo movie running while I had to go to the bathroom, and my parents saw all the hot chicks fighting. Big mistake. That was awkward. Well, they would've found out anyway. But when I wasn't Onaning to the game, I was playing like hell. Anybody who says DOA2 is a shallow button mashing countering mess is dead wrong. It takes a lot of dedication, but you'll find depth rivaling Virtua Fighter if you keep at it.

I got Street Fighter Alpha 3 the next month. I liked it so much I skipped my 8th grade picnic to play it. I played the World Tour mode all day. It was great. Skipping school, no, skipping "fun days" at school to play your Dreamcast kicks ass.

I got the internet on my DC at the end of June 2000. I had no PC, so I got the net on my DC instead. Say what you will about the DC's web browsing capabilities, but when you don't know what you're missing, you're having a blast. I then rented Chu Chu Rocket repeatedly that summer. That was awesome. I made my first net friend, [E8] Cyber Squish, made my first net rival, Chaos Punk, and just plain had an awesome time with my first online gaming experience.

It was also that summer of 2000 that I discovered Crazy Taxi, probably my most played DC game. Hell, it's probably my most played game of all time. In September 2000, I got it from the Sears catalog. Or maybe it was Macy's, or maybe JC Penney's. Whatever. The important thing is that it was, for no apparent reason, $20. My mom ordered it for me after I gave her $20. Until Crazy Taxi 2 came out, that game barely left my DC.

I got Ferarri F355 Challenge for Christmas 2000. The game was awesome, but it's most notable for helping shape my taste in music. I loved the "butt rock" in that game, and now my favorite music is 80s rock and metal.

Jet Grind Radio took me by surprise. I wasn't expecting much when I rented it in spring of 2001, but when I played it, I was hooked. I got it for $20 in June 2001. This was around the time stores were marking down their DC games because the DC was proclaimed dead by SEGA. I was in awe, but I was left wondering how the DC could be dead with something as awesome as this. Even though I have a PS2 now (which was entirely not by my decision, although I do enjoy it now), I still look at my PS2 and say, "YOU KILLED MY DREAMCAST!!!"

I have lots of other DC stories to tell, but those are my favorites. My DC is probably my favorite gaming console. It was a big part of my life when I was 14 and 15. I even plan to have it buried with me when I die. It was with me through what I consider to be the happiest time of my life.

I have 32 DC games. I got a lot of them on the cheap after the death of the system. I even managed to get Bangai-O for $20. I have a handful of imports, too. I have the regular edition of DOA2, the Sonic Adventure 2 Birthday Pack, Gundam Federation Vs Zeon, and King of Fighters 2000-2002.

What is your favorite game on this system?

Metropolis Street Racer

What are some of your other favorites?

Virtua Tennis, Grandia 2, Mars Matrix, Bangai-O, Test Drive Le Mans, Wetrix+

What games surprised you?

Virtua Tennis. I never thought a tennis game could have such incredible gameplay value combined with simple controls.

Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

When I played it myself (after it was dead). Crazy Taxi was the first game I played, and the simple arcade-frantic action and atmosphere sold me for the system.

Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

Unfortunately, I didn't own it when it was alive. I bought it when our street had a garage sale from a teenager who lived nearby in 2002. Never sold it and never will, I praise the day I got it.

How many games do you have for it?

38, I bought two games today, and tomorrow I'll buy some more after I neglected buying for it for some time.

For me, the puzzling Q is the renaissance this system experienced in the last couple of years. Everyone seems to like the system and its games today. Me too, it is the most played system among the dead ones.

The system has character defined by its graphics and the game offerings. The game graphics remind me of something in between the current console generation and the 16/32-bit days. There is something straightforward and simple about them with sharp details and the lack of high polygon count compared to the current 'big three.' The variety of the game offerings with an emphasis on the arcade side (simple, straightforward, fun action) reenforces the impression about the link between current gen games and 16-bit games that the system represents for me today.

In short: great game library, great system. If I ever go for a complete game library, it is for the DC.

What is your favorite game on this system?

Easy, "Power Stone 2"

What are some of your other favorites?

Gauntlet Legends & Beats of Rage

What games surprised you? Infuriated you?

"Sonice Adventure" suprised me....particularly the pinball tables. I remember being blown away that the paddles still moved in the background even when i was dragged around the side of the table.

"Zombies Revenge" still pisses me off to this day. I think the control in this game is terrible and the more i tried to play it the more i hated it.

"Dynamite Cop" has better control and i still find it to be a tad sluggish.

Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

No, but i remember considering buying one when they dropped to $50..i didnt buy one because i wasn't back into games at the time (DVD's were my thang at the time.)

I didnt end up getting a Dreamcast until fall of 2003.

How many games do you have for it?

11

Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

The Dreamcast is the only system i have ever bought without knowing one game i "had to have" with it. A long time i questioned why i had/wanted the system but "Power Stone 2" solidified its place in my gaming collection.

- What is your favorite game on this system?

Grandia 2, it was one of the first games I purchased for the system. I loved the gameplay the music the graphics it was just excellent.

- What are some of your other favorites?

KOF 99 KOF evolution KOF 2000, Guilty gear, Mars Matrix, Headhunter, Jet Grind Radio, Shenmue, this list could go on forever!

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?

I was really suprised with Ikaruga, I played the Gamecube port before I got the DC version, and I don't like it as much. Its has more frame rate issues, and why there no anolog controlls bothers the hell out of me.

Capcom VS SNK infuriates the hell out of me all the time. I usually like 2d fighters, but with the charictor mismatches, some are harder to defeat then M Bison ( DAMN YOU RYU) Plus I dont like how they capcomised the SNK charictors, making them much weaker in the process.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

I first saw the system in action at my cousins house. He was playing ready to Rumble I could not belive how good the charictors looked. They were not blury of stick figgures, they looked like honest to got people. To me it was like the movie toy story, in graphic ability. I just had to play it that day. I do belive it was christmas 1999.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

Nope didn't own it in the day. I was in the N64 camp unable to afford the new system. Which was fine for me becouse I didn't have enough time for all of that systems games.

I own one now of course, I purchased it, wait weres that recipt, 2-9-2002, so it was RIGHT after the system died. I purcased Shenmue, Grandia 2, Berzerk, and Silver. I loved them all except Silver wich I quickly gave back. Wich I now own again thanks to a small lot I purchaed.

- How many games do you have for it?

237 With 6 imports. All Games are complete, even Sonic LE and Shenmue LE. Only 21 more to go!

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

The first system I got was in ugly shape. It was yellowing, had an acid like spot on it, just wasn't very good looking. Later on I find a new case for it, greenish blue. So I decide to swap it out. When I got inside there was a freaking dorito, with mold on it. The nastiest thing I ve ever seen. There was also coke stains and ugh not very sanitary.

So after I get the system back together I try to power it back up, nothing. SHIT! I take it appart and but it back together again. Doing my best to remember what it looked like. Back to gether turned it back on I get this Sega logo then nothing after that. Take it appart then back together, nothing. Then again and FInally worked like a charm. I've sence worked on 2 other DCs with no problem. Go figgure.

Sonic LE:
A bit of a story of how I got a complete mint LE.
I was in a local game crazy, soon after I started collecting for the system. 2003 I belive. I saw a good copy of Sonic Adventure for $5. I purchaed it as normal, and walk outside and checked the disk, damn a rental copie. Wait a rental copy? Cool Sonic Limited Eddition! So I went back inside and asked if they had a case for this game, they didn't so I left with a case for Sonic Adventure and a cd of sonic LE. This was a later version of Sonic LE it could save and had chows or what ever the little tikes were called. It still didn't have internet capabilities.

Later on during my early DC collecting I but my name on a list for Shenmue LE. I was searching high and low for this game for 6 month and had no results. Fast for ward another couple of months and I get a call from this game store. They sadi they had the LE game I was looking for. When I got there they didn't have SHenmue lE they had a Great copy of SONIC LE. Complete and in mint condition. I talked to the owners about the game, and said what was different between the two versions, after wich they dropped the price quite a bit. In their eye it was inferior. So I picked it up for a paltry sum of 7.50 after I sold the cd back to them. So there s how I got the most expensive game in the DC library with dumb luck.

What is your favorite game on this system?
-Shenmue. That game is pure f-----g magic.

- What are some of your other favorites?
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Soul Calibur and Shenmue II.

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
I was really impressed with the graphics in Toy Commander. Gameplay wise, that's a title that's very overlooked. Surprisingly I never really liked Power Stone 2 although everybody else raves about it. I like Power Stone 1 well enough. Maybe I haven't played enough of it yet to appreciate its sequel.

Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
-It was the demo kiosk Gamestop. Must have been right after launch. Power Stone was in the machine. I was into seriously into a "classic consoles only" mindset and just could not stand anything about the DC. I didn't like the controller (too big, too many buttons and too bright), I didn't like the game I was watching. I was just turned off by the whole thing.

Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

-Obviously I didn't like the system back in the day. A little while later I got at least curious about the thing for some reason and traded a Colecovision for a DC. Don't ask me how why but I fell madly in love with the thing real fast. Everything preconception I complained about above just went away once I had a DC of my own. Nowadays I consider the DC the best of the "modern" consoles as I feel it belongs in the same grouping as PS2/Xbox/Cube.

How many games do you have for it?
-25 at present. All domestic titles except for Shenmue II. I also have a great Stella emulator disc for this machine. If you have a copy of Godzilla: Generations or a Godzilla VMU then please PM me for teh tradez.

Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
-I never really got into fighter games but I love Soul Calibur. When I first got it I couldn't figure out why my son, who was five at the time, kept kicking my butt at it. It was a combination of things, but I was very impressed that someone (Namco) made a game that looked and played so well even a five-year-old could look good playing it.

Besides that I will say that it was the DC that turned me into a fan of Sonic and Sega all in one swoop.

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Sonic Adventure

- What are some of your other favorites?
Outrigger, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure 2, Grandia 2, the 3 or 4 gun games

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
the graphics for the system are really impressive, i must say. I'm infuriated with the lack of support the system received, both from developers and gamers, also the controllers are shitty.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
i played it at a friends house, i played the first sonic game, i was impressed, but the controllers pissed me off.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Sorta, my friend gave me his after he got bored, i owned it for about a month and sold it on ebay (this all happened a month prior to Sega cutting support, so it wasnt really in its heyday, but the system had such a short lifespan it didnt matter). i bought one later when Gamestop was selling them for 15 bucks. still have that one now.

- How many games do you have for it?
i have them all. all are cdrs though, i dont collect for the system, im not a big fan, i think it kinda sucks (afterthoughts). i just wanted every game so i get to experience what some peopel are so crazy about, i cant say i shared many people's enthusiasm, seems most are just fanboys frightened to let go of their favorite childhood gaming company (sega)

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
Not really, no one around here cared much for it, and after playing every game, i still cant say im thrilled.

Toy Commander and Mars Matrix on both accounts.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

I saw NFL 2K on display the night I went and picked up the system. I was floored and picked up NFL 2K along with the system as a result.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

Yes and Yes, still have my launch model.

Where is the official seal of officialness for this thread?

http://www.consolecity.com/images/little_system16.gif

There we go.

- What is your favorite game on this system?

This is a very difficult question that I often times ask myself. Could it be Shenmue, a game that I lost myself in as I got a job driving a forklift and looking for sailors? Could it be Soul Calibur, the lauch title that I spent hundreds of hours playing with my friends? Could it be PSO, that online game that I had a sievere love/hate relationship with, and also spent hundreds of hours playing with my friends? Maybe it's Sonic Adventure, the first true 3D outing of my all time favorite mascot that we all waited so many years to finally play.

Such a hard question. For any other system I could narrow it down to just one game without even thinking twice. Not for my beloved Dreamcast, however. Those games are all equal to me.

In addition, I also loved:

Crazy Taxi
Sword of the Brezerk: Guts' Rage
Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm
Dragon Riders: Chronicles of Pern
Starlancer
Jet Grind Radio
...and many more

Edit: Almost forgot to mention D2. This is a wonderful game by a misunderstood developer, and is always underrated.

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?

What surprised me? Dragon Riders did. I really loved the story in that game. It was just like Shenmue, except with awful graphics. The glitchyness in that game also infuriated me, but not to the extent of my infuriation when my level 67 character was corrupted on my VMU... And that was right after PSO came out.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

The first game I ever played on a Dreamcast in person was Virtua Fighter 3tb. It was at an EB owned store in Arizona Mills mall. My reaction was like, "Bleh, it's an arcade perfect port, and I can't wait to play Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur!" I never did get around to owning VF3tb yet.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

Here is a good story... Sort of. I got my Dreamcast on 9.9.99. I had the system paid off at the local Babbage's. Along with it I had one VMU, an extra controller, and copies of Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur.

I don't remember what day it was but it was a school day. I remember because I called my girlfriend up that moring for her wake up call before we would walk to school. (It was my senior year of high school.) She said "we needed to talk," so when I got there she was waiting with a virtual knife, which she used to virtually rip my beating heart out of my cheast and virtually stomp it before my eyes.

Needless to say, I wasn't going to school this day. I walked outside, sparked up a cigarette, and walked to my friends house four houses down. We drove to the mall and got the Dreamcast. My good friend was very skeptical about Sega, thought they would fail, ect., etc.. He dropped my off at my house and went to go chew out my newly ex-girlfriend.

I remember taking the system out of it's packaging carefully, reading through manuals and then hooking the system up. The first game I popped in was Soul Calibur, which I bought purely based on the hype. After I got used to it my friend came back, we both fell in love with the Dremacast, and I kicked the shit out of him with Xantua (sp?).

So, the lauch system I had broke. One day it just stopped working. Luckily this was when the new systems were $49.99, so I just replaced it, and it's still going.

On a side note, does anyone here remember Dricas World?

- How many games do you have for it?

I have exactally 28 games. I plan to own much more. I am very picky with what I buy. There are only 10 or 15 more games that I want to own for the system before I have every game that I want.

My Dreamcast collection: http://www.consolecity.com/user.php?system_id=3&genre_id=&sort=&limit=&region_array=a%3A0%3A%7B%7D&action=collection&search_id=

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

Shit, see above.

Other than that, I had a lot of fun with Dricas World. I didn't even realize how big our website was until one of my friends got the black Sega Sports Dreamcast for his birthday. He got online with NFL 2K1 and ever time he triend to start a game he was asked, "u dricas?"

After the fourth or fifth denial for a game he threw down the controller and exclaimed, "WTF is Dricas?" I was like, "Holy shit dude, it's the website I work on, I had no idea we are this big!"

Dreamcast is and always will be my favorite system EVER :rocker: thats being said

My first game(s) were Sonic Adventure and the almighty Soul Calibur :hail: Me and a friend chipped in 50/50 to buy the DC the two games and one VMU on launch day it was a great and memoriable day for two old-time gamers who grew up thinking that the old 8-bit Nes was the ultimate ;) I can tell you that.
Both me and my (then) best friend sat there amazed amazed and stunned as we tried to comprehend what Sega had so graciously bestowed upon us. We played Soul Calibur for a month striaght after 9.9.99.

My Favorite game on the system would have to be Shenmue tied with Streetfighter3:third strike and RE:code veronica.

The first time I saw the system in action was on a display at a babagges where they were displaying VF3tb (hey it killed the old PSone graphics wich were the norm then) I was impressed but even more so when I saw NFL2k and completely blown away when the manager popped in Soul Calibur on launch morning.

out of over 70 games that I have owned for my beloved DC from launch day on I now only have around 15 left and still have more if a friend of mine that "borrowed" 4 of them would kindly give them back

One last thing a small tidbit from the new Nextgen site that says it all (well its kinda funny at least) about what is to many of us here at DP our favorite COMPLETELY MISSUNDERSTOOD/UNDERATED BY THE CASUAL GAMING MASSES cut down in its time console that could and that did bring us so many great and wonderfull games and experiences :sob:

International markets were weak from the start. While 1.5 million Xboxes were sold in the first six weeks in the US, merely 190,000 were shifted in Japan. A restyled controller for smaller hands belatedly proved Microsoft could listen, but if Japanese consumers are hard to win, they're even harder to win back: talk of scratched discs further hurt Microsoft's reputation (technical difficulties echoed three years later, when Microsoft offered to replace 14 million potentially faulty Xbox power cords). Within two years, Sega's defunct Dreamcast was reported as outselling Xbox in Japan.

Wow , First let me wipe away a tear for the last of the mighty SEGA consoles.

OK now I'm done. Anyway i was totaly hyped for this system and was first inline to pick one up on launch. I had previously traded in all my Playstation gear to ensure I could afford what I want'ed(that being all the DReamcast launch gear). So there I am in the morning waiting for EB to open, the doors open and I bring my stack of preorder slips to the counter (joy!) sadly not all of the titles were in yet so I grabbed what I could and headed home. One of my buudies showed up just as I got home and we preceded to play the snot out of the Dreamcast, NFL 2K, Sonic, SoulCalibur, and after about 4 hours had past I went back down to EB for the rest of my loot! Powerstone etc.

To this day I have not been as excited or awe inspired over a new system! I now have 2 Dreamcasts and about 50 games and 200 " backups" and still play it regularly.

I'm still waiting for the anouncement of a new Sega console but if they never release one again I feel good that they finally beat Nintendo, Sony and others with what would turn out to be a new "Goldenage" of gaming!

favorite game = Jet Grind Radio

other favorites = Rush 2049, Sword of the Berzerk, Virtua Tennis, Crazy Taxi, both Tony Hawks

surprised = how well Daytona played online over dial-up

infuriated = how badly I got my ass kicked in Quake 3 over dial-up

first time = I got it on launch day which was probably the first time I ever saw it. I was impressed but I was still pretty heavily into Playstation at the time. It took a while to grow on me...Crazy Taxi was the first game to really get me into it. I never did warm up to the controls/VMU.

ownership = I have the one I got on launch day, I have another I won at DP game night playing Crazy Taxi. One is hooked up to the TV in front of my exercise bike, so I play that one almost every day (usually Virtua Tennis 2K2 or Suzuki Alstare). The other one is hooked to my projector via VGA...with the VGA connection the DC games look much better than PS2/GC games connected via S-video...MUCH better.

stories = I was a fifth grade teacher when I got my DC. When I told one of my students he asked "Did the controller give you arthritis yet?" :)

- What are some of your other favorites?

Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Daytona USA 2001, Skies of Arcadia, Record of Lodoss War, Shenmue 1&2, Bust-a-Move 4.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

Yep, 9-9-99 when my brother's friend brought his over right after he bought it on launch day. He put his copy of Power Stone in and it brought it to the CD player with the disc art. He got one of the defective copies. He had to drive out 40 minutes to the store he bought it from for an exchange. My reaction? Bleh.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

I bought my Dreamcast with my first tax return check from my first job in 2001, right after they announced they're going to drop the system and cut the price. I still own it and I don't regret buying it. I do regret not picking up an extra one just in case for $50 when I saw it in the clearance section of the store I worked at before they announced the last price drop to $50, because that was the last one our store had.

The first time I saw it was shortly after it released I think. It was setup in the EB I frequent with "Ready 2 Rumble" playing on it.

I was definitely amazed by the graphics.

For my b-day that year I got an EB gift certificate from my buddy, which I got before my b-day and spent almost right away, on FF8. Days later I got *another* gift certificate that, had I combined it, would've gotten me a DC. I was bummed but the damage was done.

I didn't really see a DC again until it was dead. I picked one up through a co-worker, and bought about 40ish games for it before I stopped.

On the whole I'm not a fan of the system. Coming to it late as I did never gets me excited about a machine, although it does have some games I quite enjoy. Mars Matrix. Bangai-O. Soul Calibur. Those get all the gameplay.

The mMost frustrating game I have is Kao the Kangaroo. I got to the stage where you're running into the camera and just gave up. Still, I'd like to pick it up again and beat the damn thing, just to beat it.

Ah, the beautiful Dreamcast - I had been kinda out of gaming for a few years since selling my SNES in '96, but one of my friends picked one up shortly after release, and Soul Calibur convinced me I had to follow suit asap.
It was the first time I had a system during it's active lifespan aswell as having the funds to be able to buy more-or-less what I wanted, and I swiftly built up an impressive collection, despite only ever paying full price for 3 games (JSR, PSO & Rez ;) ). Truly a magical machine - for a time, it seemed that almost every first party game was AAA-quality, and a latge number of the 3rd Party releases were also up there.
The whole Dreamcast story has been gone over more times than I could mention, so I won;t go into the "woefully underappreciated by the masses"-type diatribe, but instead just thank Sega for some of the greatest gaming moments and experiences I've had yet.
With hindsight it's easy to see it was kinda doomed from the start, but that still didn't make the shock of THE announcement in Spring 2001 :( Still, drawing some small comfort from it, at least I was able to pick up just about every title I had wanted but not yet bought for an absolute pittance as retailers slashed prices to clear their shelves.

Turning to look at the games, it's clear that there are some systems with a lifespan twice as long or more that fail to come up with a pedigree that is anywhere near as impressive - Soul Calibur, JSR, SC5, Chu Chu, Bangio-O, Virtua Tennis, MSR, all the Capcom fighters, HotD2, Rez, Samba, the Shenmues - I could be here all day going into detail about some of these but simply haven't the time. And of course, not forgetting PSO, the game that almost made me fail my degree by spending 250+ hours wandering around Ragol as a fat purple Force called Boris, talking nonsense, bashing beasties and collecting booty with hundreds of strangers. I only wish I was a DP regular back then so I could have gone a-slaying with some of the folks here... Hell, I might have done anyway without realising it.

At the end of the day, despite the hopes & efforts of us hardcore fans, it was never really going to re-establish Sega as a serious hardware manufacturer due to the industry having changed so much of the previous few years, but at least they gave us the greatest swansong that the videogaming world has yet seen. So long and thanks for all the memories...

I got my Dreamcast as a Father's Day present about a year before it's "demise", and really enjoyed it. It's still one of my favorite retired systems, particularly because I was able to pad the library with some great deals off ebay -- mostly from the same seller out in Texas.

I didn't have too many games for it around when it was "new" to me, but in recent times my library count soared. It was the first SEGA system that I owned, having bypassed the earlier systems. I have since gone back and picked up a Genesis and a Game Gear in the past year. Master Systems and Saturns seem to be hard to come by in these parts.

The first time I saw a Dreamcast in action was actually the day I got it. A couple guys at work had them, but I didn't actually get them to fire it up. I got Chu Chu Rocket with it, along with NFL 2K and immediately realized that Madden wasn't all there was out there. They made me a believer.

- Favorite game: Toy Commander
- Other favorites: Chu Chu Rocket, Crazy Taxi, NFL 2K, Soul Calibur, Virtua Tennis, and Speed Devils.
- Surprises: Shenmue was partly what I expected, partly more than I expected, yet partly disappointing all at the same time. Hard to explain how that's possible. :) Seaman was just plain baffling.
- How many games: 33

It was all over when I played the demo of Sonic a few weeks before the system came out. I was glued to the kiosk for an hour before my wife (then girlfriend) dragged me staggering and drooling from the store. I kept muttering "so... fast...". That was the only system I ever bought and paid for before release. In fact, I got the system, a VMU, Sonic, House of the Dead and 2 guns on launch day. God, thats probably still on my Visa card.

- What is your favorite game on this system?

I really don't know if I could narrow it down to just one. I really liked so many different games for it. NBA 2K1 was a total blast, and I have logged more hours playing it than I think I will ever log on another game. I also really like Feet of Fury, for the fact that it was the first game that I produced and the fact that it got me into the whole dancing game stuff. On the other hand, Headhunter is one of my favorite games ever... so maybe it?

- What are some of your other favorites?

Inhabitants and Maqiupai are both, of course very close to my heart. I really loved Rush 2049 and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. I really enjoyed Speed Devils, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Grandia 2, Hydro Thunder, Bangai-O, Gigawing 1 and 2, Gunbird 2, Cannon Spike, Crazy Taxi 1 and 2, Chu Chu Rocket, Seaman, Dead or Alive 2, Demolition Racer: No Exit, Zombie Revenge, Virtua Tennis 1 and 2, Virtual On, Typing of the Dead, Bass Fishing 1 and 2, Marine Fishing, the entire NBA and NFL series, Sega GT, Samba De Amigo, Skies of Arcadia, Soul Calibur, Spider-Man, Star Wars Jedi Power Battles, Street Fighter (all), Stupid Invaders, Super Runabout, Rayman 2, Mars Matrix, Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness... *whew*. I could keep going, but that is all that I can think of off the top of my head...

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?

Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness was the biggest surprise, as I played it only to see what it was like and I ended up playing it all the way through to completion. I was also really surprised by Seaman, which even captivated my roommates and had them chatting with him too.

Sega GT infuriated me. I liked it a lot, but at the same time I just wasn't goo enough to get too far at it. Jeremy McGrath's also is in the same boat, as I bought it because I really like Supercross style games, but boy did that one go wrong somewhere.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

Yes. Very vividly. I was at Epcot Center in the summer of 1999 and they had a huge Dreamcast display in the Innovations part of it. They had probably 150 kiosks set up with consoles playing various games. I stopped here while my parents and sister went to do something I wasn't interested in -- I forget what not. Most of the systems had crowds of people around them. The one that didn't was playing Disney's Magical Racing Tour, so I went up to that one and played it for a while. Being a Disney geek and a games geek, I really liked the game. The Dreamcast ended up being the first system I bought early in the lifecycle, as I got one for my birthday in February of 2000.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

I owned and still own that system. I have also picked up another six or so for my collection since then :)

- How many games do you have for it?

Honestly, I don't know. I have all 251 US releases, not counting all of the slight case variations. I own all the All*Star releases except one which I should be getting soon. I own most of the Not For Resale pack-in variations. I have a copy of Sonic Adventure LE in the case. As for imports, I also own somewhere around 150 PAL releases, 40 Japanese releases and 100 promotional discs. And I've got some other strange stuff too. All in all, I probably have 650-750 games for the Dreamcast right now...

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

Lots!

I remember very much that when NHL2K2 was going to be released, it was right around my birthday again, so I decided to request it for my birthday. My parents did, and I went from having never played a NHL game to really liking 2K2.

I very vividly remember when I decided I was going to collect everything for it. I was adoring every game I had bought on the Dreamcast. I had something like 40 games at the time, and then Sega announced they were discontinuing it. Suddenly, most of the games dropped to $20.00 or $10.00 new for it, and after I had about 120 games and I still hadn't found any that I didn't like except for Jeremy McGrath's, I decided I might as well go for them all. I definitely couldn't tell you the moment it happened for my Jaguar collection.

I remember the first time I saw the Dreamcast underground stuff. It was at the Midwest Classic (not yet named the Midwest Gaming Classic) in 2002. One of the other organizers found a few people working on Dreamcast games and invited them to come to the show. At the show, they gave out a demo disc of some of the projects that had been done. I had been under the impression that the best stuff that we would see would be pretty small, simple projects... stuff that would be NES quality at the most. I was absolutely blown away to find fully 3D demos and games on those discs. Upon going home that night, I started contacting the developers and asking them if anyone wanted to complete any games. Exactly one year later, GOAT Store Publishing was releasing Feet of Fury at the next Midwest Classic. One year after that, we have a total of three releases, with another dozen or so waiting in the wings.

I will never forget seeing my roommate try playing Seaman, and getting realy annoyed with him when Seaman didn't reply to him correctly. After trying a few more times, my roommate yelled that Seaman was a "stupid f-ing fish" and threw the controller across the room. Seaman replied with something like, "Getting testy, aren't you?" My roommate was so angry that he refused to talk with Seaman for a few days... and he wasn't even kidding around!

Thanks to the Dreamcast game production, I have had the opportunity to really meet a lot of people within the industry, and do things I would've never had the opportunity to do otherwise. I have been contacted by some of the heads of larger companies so they could ask questions about our publishing model to see how we can take a very small release and still make it work. Because of this, I've even been asked to speak at one of the Game Developers conferences, which was an honor but I unfortunately wasn't able to. Things like that make me really proud to do what I can to support it.

---

A note: I don't think the Dreamcast's supporters is filled by people who love it only because it says Sega on it. I personally really like it, and I never liked a Sega system before it. Every game that I purchased for it with the one exception I mentioned I felt was of a very high quality. I can still sit down and play most of the games in my collection, and I feel that they are just awesome and were truly great when they came out.

I expect I'll be playing my Dreamcast for a long, long time :)

- What is your favorite game on this system? Gunbird 2.

- What are some of your other favorites? The King of Fighters 98, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Jet Grind Radio, Marvel vs. Capcom.

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you? None really. JGR was pretty cool though as it was the first game I ever played that used cel-shaded graphics.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction? During the Chrismast season of 99, I didn't think anything of it. The N64 put a sour taste in my mouth and I was off of video games. I disliked it alot at the time because I thought that systems were being replaced too quickly.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now? No, because of said reason above. I regret never buying one during its prime now. So many fun arcade style games that I want but never see around in used game stores (i.e. the GigaWings, Bangai-O, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Last Blade 2, etc.). Of corse I own one now :)

- How many games do you have for it? Roughly 20.

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us? Nope, haven't owned one for much time yet.

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Skies of Arcadia. Wife would say Maqiupai
- What are some of your other favorites?
Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5, Bust-a-Move 4, Soul Calibur
- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Pro Pinball Trilogy was a huge disappointment, given that it's the only pinball game for the system. The tables just seem so small. Saturn had much better pinball. Needed a better golf game, too.
- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
Saw it at a GameStop, it was running NFL2K. I was just stunned by the graphics.
- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
I (almost) never buy current-gen systems, so I didn't get my first dreamcast until it was "obsolete". Traded an Odyssey2 for it, oddly enough. Now I've got a half-dozen of them, including one in a weird translucent green case.
- How many games do you have for it?
135 or so. Always looking for more.
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
This is the only system with a permanent place in my living room: all the others come and go depending on my mood. The availability of good emulators for most of the 8-bit consoles is a real plus as it generally satisfies my retro-gaming needs as well as playing it's own great games.

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Grandia II, it was epic.

- What are some of your other favorites?
Jet Grind Radio, Soul Calibur, Sonic Adventure 1/2, PSO, gunbird 2, Psavariar 2, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Ikagruga

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Jet Grind radio surprised me.
PSO Enfuriated me when everyone i tried to play with cheated <sigh>, also alone in the dark pissed me off, scared me, so i turned it off.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
holy crap, didn't know they could make pod racers that good. (best buy)

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Nope, I decided to go with the psone at the time, i was into playing rpg's.

- How many games do you have for it?
Over 100, and about 12 imports 2 pal games.
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

Imported games for the first time because of this system, Ikaruga is a Gem.

- What is your favorite game on this system?

Ikaruga. This game spends more time in my system than any other. In my opinion, this game is the best shmup of all time.

- What are some of your other favorites?

Virtua Tennis: I spent a LOT of time playing this game. My girlfriend, who is not much of a gamer, played this game with me quite a bit.

Railroad Tycoon: Picked this game up on the cheap. It introduced me to the world of Railroad Tycoon. My friend made fun of me for playing the DC version of the game when I could be playing it on my computer, but I didn't care. Awesome game.

Crazy Taxi: I don't play this game that much, but I still think it is really cool. The voice acting in the game is annoying, though.

Rez: I really love this game. Never played a game quite like it before, or since.

Propeller Arena: It's a real shame that Sega chose not to release this game, although I can understand their reasoning. Really fun in single player mode, and a great time when played with friends.

Sega Smash Pack: Re-invigorated my interest in the Genesis. The first time I played Streets of Rage 2 was on this compilation, and I played it more than any other game on the disc.

Soul Calibur: I don't even like fighting games that much, but this game is awesome. I ditched a lot of class to stay home and play this one.

Tee-Off Golf: I even got my mom hooked on this one. Basically it's the DC version of Hot Shots Golf, and I think that it's every bit as good.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2: Superior to the PSX version thanks to the improved graphics. I played this version of this game more than any other THPS on any other system.

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?

Ikaruga surpised me in that I had never played a shmup quite like it before. Rez surprised me in that I had never played a game quite like it before. No game has ever infuriated me per se, but I really didnt like the Sonic titles on the DC. Sonic belongs in 2D.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

The first time I saw the Dreamcast in action was at a friend's house. He threw a party not long after the DC came out, and some dude brought one to the party and set it up in my friend's parents' bedroom. He had it running the first THPS, and I was pretty blown away, having been used to the PSX version. Seeing the far superior graphics, I remember my raction being "The Playstation is in trouble". That of course was before I saw a PS2 in action.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

I bought the system new at Best Buy when it was available bundled with the Sega Smash Pack for $120 or so. I still have it.

- How many games do you have for it?

I have around 15-20 legitimate games. Maybe a year or so after the system was dumped by Sega, I went on a downloading frenzy and downloaded almost every game available for the system. Since then, I have been trying to slowly replace my burned copies with legitimate copies. The collector in me vs. the gamer in me, I guess.

I really like the Dreamcast a lot. It's a real shame that the system didn't do better. I think that it was a combination of poor copy protection, not enough "killer app" titles (although I think the system's library is a treasure-trove of great games), and too early a release date that did the system in, and it's a damned shame. The graphics still hold up against the PS2 in my opinion, and if Arcade ports are your thing, this is definitely the system to have. As I said, I'm not realy into fighters so much, but I love shmups and the system has plenty!

I picked up a Dreamcast near the tail end of its marketing life simply so I could play Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Yep.

Love the controller, the spacing and layout is just right for my hands.

- What is your favorite game on this system?
The Shenmue series, of course. ;)

- What are some of your other favorites?
DoA2, Soul Calibur, Tokyo Highway Challenge, ChuChu Rocket, Sega GT, Space Channel 5, MSR

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Ecco surprised me by the looks, REZ equally did. Top notch games!
There are no games on the DC so far, that really infuriated me. Maybe the bad physics in Tokyo Highway challenge did, or the slowdowns...

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
At a friends house. He got it at the release day. By the time I saw it, he had Ecco, Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur. I was floored. I never really cared for Sega systems, as all my friends were Nintendo fanboys, but shortly after that I bought my own Dreamcast (jp console w/ chip) which I still have.

[b]- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
As said before, I had it, when it was still new, and still have it.

- How many games do you have for it?
34, including some US and Jap. imports

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
No big stories. Just the common friends, that didn't know the system, or were prejudiced against it until they saw it, and were totally hooked when I showed them some games.

The Dreamcast is one of, if not my favorite system (between the SNES and Master System). I've played the bulk of the US games and a half dozen Japanese games. I was trying to collect them all for a while but it got too expensive. I topped out at around 80 and then simply tried to play them all - buying one, selling or trading it for another and repeating the process. I did that up until 7 months ago until that got too expensive too.

- What is your favorite game on this system?

Shenmue II - which also happens to be my favorite game of all time.

- What are some of your other favorites?

Really, bar maybe 20 games, the whole damn collection. I love it all. Here's a few faces. Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Hyrdo Thunder, Metropolis Street Racer, San Francisco Rush 2049, Street Fighter III Double Impact, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (oh man do I love that one).

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (and 1). I had started to think that replay was a lost commodity in gaming until it came along and swallowed up a large chunk of my early 20's. Blue Stinger infuriated me because it was the first game I saw previewed and it just sucked ass when I finally played it.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

I was still living in Australia. It was at a local game store, The Games Keeper - the guy had imported it from Japan. Virtua Fighter 3tb was running on it - I was amazed at how small the system was, being used to the PlayStation.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

I imported one from the US, while still in Australia, as I knew I'd be in the US for the bulk of its lifespan. Turns out it wasn't a very long lifespan. While waiting for the right price, I kept myself amused with magazines featuring previews of the upcoming DC games. I remember how bad I wanted to play Sonic Adventure and how cool Blue Stinger looked.

- How many games do you have for it?

Around 80, I believe. Some day I may try to gather up the remaining 170 or so that I need, but at the moment my money is being invested elsewhere.

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

This is a good one. As previously mentioned I had to import my Dreamcast from the US, and I was in Australia. So I searched ebay for a couple of weeks, until I found the perfect one... then got into a bidding war. The guy I got it from lived in Texas and was in the air force - he was selling it because he didn't have time to play it. I won, got a decent price and he sent it off a few days later. Fast forward to the big day when I finally came. Excited? Fuck yeah. I was so excited that I didn't bother to research the fact that America and Australia don't use the same voltage. Oh, I'd picked up a converter for the plug so that it'd fit - but not a stepdown converter.

I plug in my Dreamcast, turn it on and BOOM! The damn thing explodes - black smoke fills the room, I recall seeing something small and black shoot across the room (I never did find it). I run over and turn it off. All that can go through my mind is, "Oh fuck. I just wasted how many hundreds of dollars... and it is broken just like that? What a dumbass. WHAT A GODDAMN IDIOT! I'm never gonna get to play it... I'll never get another Dreamcast..." I decided what the hell, I'd go and buy a stepdown converter. I'd spent all my cash on the system and shipping, which worked out - decent price or not - being around $500 Australian (a little below, I think).

The stepdown converter was around $80, I didn't have it. I had to ask my sister for it (which over the course of my life I did many times as far as games went). I got home and plugged everything back in. Opened the DC, something had burst its juice all over the unit - I mopped out the liquid. Figured it was as broken as it would get, opened it up and mopped up inside. Booted it up and...

It worked perfectly. It gave me a good two years before it eventually broke for good. I got another one that day and it is still going strong. But I am still amazed that the damn thing worked even after it exploded parts and... battery juice or something everywhere. Good times, great system.

Favorite Game: Shenmue

Other Favorites: Virtua Fighter 3Tb, Soul Calibur, Jet Grind Radio, Typing of The Dead, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

What Games Surprised you? Infuriated you?
Jet Grind Radio really surprised me, and so did Crazy Taxi. They both brought back that arcade style of gameplay.
Sonic Adventure infuriated me to no end! It's not that bad, but it s not worthy of the blue blur and his friends(except that stupid cat). The second one was better, but neither of the felt like Sonic titles. Maybe Sadow the Hedgehog will work better.

Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
The first time I saw it in actio was the day, it came out. Wal-Mart had it hooked up, but with only a demo inside:(
I bought one amd one game(I think it was PSO) and immediately fell in love.

Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
I got it the day it came out, and still own it and play it all the time.

How many games do you have for it?
Around 30

Not really any good ones, just a whole lotta multiplayer Sonic Shuffle! Who needs Mario Party?

- Mavel Vs. Capcom 2 is my favorite.
- Phantasy Star Online (Offline for me) was great for thirty hours. I just cna't wait for Phantasy Star Universe. Record of Lodoss War is great, and the Sonic Adventure games were OK for a while, but are kinda stale to me now.
- Seaman made me realize that Catholicism's idea, as well as every other religion's idea, of making everyone join your religion isn't too nice or sensitive. Not kidding.
- I first saw Sonic Adventure on it. Freaking amazing was what it was.
- I got mine in 2000. Still have the box and manual and everything except plastic bags and twist ties. Play it when I can, but it's beginning to be overshadowed.
- Don't know for sure, but around 15.
- See Seaman story. Otherwise, not too much. But I did use some hacked internet on it, as well as some emulators.

- What is your favorite game on this system?

Sonic Adventure 2

- What are some of your other favorites?

Sonic Adventure, Street Fighter III, Soul Caliber, House of the Dead 2, Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis, Marvel VS Capcom, Marvel VS Capcom 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Hydro Thunder

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you

None that I can think of.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

The first time I personally saw the system in action was at a local mall at an EB store. A kid was playing Sonic Adventure. However, the first time I actually saw the system in action was on the local news the day the Dreamcast launched. They were talking about the system and showed footage from Sonic Adventure, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, NHL 2K, Soul Caliber, Crazy Taxi, and a few other launch titles. My reaction - I was comletely amazed. The graphics were such a huge step up from what I was used to on the N64 and Playstation...at least they were in some of the games.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

Nope, a part of me wanted one...but the other part was satisfied with the PSX and N64. I thought about asking for one that Christmas...but I wanted stick with what I already had. I finally played a Dreamcast in late 2001. Sonic Adventure was enough to make me want one really bad...and this was when Sega first dropped their support for the system and stores were clearing out their Dreamcasts by selling them for $50 each. I almost got one, but then I received a PS2 from my uncle and completely forgot about getting a Dreamcast. I finally got one off of ebay in late 2003. It was complete with box and booklet, and in mint condition!

How many games do you have for it?

Only 13. Like my Saturn...I really haven't gotten around to building up a decent Dreamcast collection yet.

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

Pretty much what I shared above. Sonic Adventure was the game that really persuaded me to buy a Dreamcast...even though I didn't buy one till almost 2 years after I first played Sonic Adventure.

How about now? Yes
- How many games do you have for it? 200+ (US and JPN)
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
I took a day off from work just to wait in line at EB and buy the system, accessories, and games on 9/9/99. It was very much worth the wait, but I had two problems: Power Stone was not in at the time, and Sonic Adventure I did not boot up on my DC. So I went back to exchange for another working Sonic Adventure and picked up Power Stone, which arrived later in the day.

I would possibly consider myself amongst the elie of UK DC collector's ~ At least, online anyway.

I would also consider myself one of (If not THE) biggest collector's of factory sealed PAL DC games here in the UK ~ I've not heard of anyone else trying to collect, or who has a complete collection of sealed PAL DC games...

What is your favorite game on this system?

What are some of your other favorites?

It would possibly be a toss up between a few. Space Channel 5, Virtua Tennis, and Gunbird II are always in and out, and I had so much fun with Record Of Lodoss War... Soul Reaver I loved, along with Rez, Samba De Amigo, and Powerstone II.

You can't really beat a good blast on House Of The Dead II though, and Tony Hawk II is possibly thegame I have played on my DC the most

What games surprised you? Infuriated you?

Record Of Lodoss War surprised me a lot. It started out so slow, and really was a struggle to play, but after a while I really got into it.

Jet Set Radio also surprised me, as it looked so simple. It was actually very enjoyable!

The Resident evil games infuriated me due to Capcom deciding to change around the controls from the classic PSone versions. So many times I kept calling up the menu when I should've been shooting a huge monster!

Sonic Adventure II also disappointed me a lot. I expected it to be so much more like the first one.

Nomad Soul... How slow is this game. I simply gave up, as I was getting nowhere. Fast.

Ducati World also infuriated me. It could have been a good game, but collision detaction was piss-poor, and I hated how long it took to place you back on the track aftera crash (Which seemed to happen more often than not)

Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

I think the first game I ever saw running on it was either Trickstyle or Ready II Rumble Boxing. It was in a Virgin Megastore on one of the DC pods. I was so amazed at Ready II Rumble. I was on it all the time!

My mate then bought one upon launch, and had a fair few games for it then. I was still lagging behind with my PlayStation and had only just bought an N64... You could certainly see the difference between the graphics, but I think most people were still holding out for the PS2 at that point...

It was actually either Crazy Taxi or Sonic Adventure which made me decide to get one myself. I was addicted to playing both!

Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?

Not so much "back in the day". I didn't have one when it was launched if that's what you mean. I think I bought mine when they dropped in price to around £100. It was a few months prior to when Sonic Adventure II was released, so I guess it must've been just after New Years 2001 when I bought it.

I still own it now, although it has developed the infamous "Resetting" syndrome. I mainly stick to buying the games (Factory sealed I might add)

How many games do you have for it?

I have just over half the PAL releases, in factory sealed condition. Only about another 100 games to go for a full set.

I also have about 45 unsealed, which I bought "back in the day", as well as about 30 dupes which I have bought in bundles and not needed (Currently for sale here: Games for sale ~ VideoGameAuctions.co.uk (http://www.videogameauctions.co.uk/otheritems.php?owner=100793&nick=BlackMarketGames))

I have also just started to purchase American and Japanese DC games too.

Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

Um, no, not really. I did buy my original PAL Rez from HMV in 2002 for just a fiver when they were having a clearance sale. I later sold it for £35 a few months later. Not so much a deal, as I then bought a factory sealed copy a few months ago for £40.

I also bidded £255 on a factory sealed PAL Samba De Amigo box set last year. I lost as someone bidded a few pounds more. Ironically, he is now going to be reselling it on eBay in the next few weeks with an asking price of £400! Talk about optimistic.

I have also aquired a lot of my rarer sealed DC games for very cheap prices. I think I must have just been very lucky!

Ahh the Dreamcast...

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Jet Grind Radio

- What are some of your other favorites?
Shenmue, Bangai-O, Space Channel 5, Chu Chu Rocket, and many more...

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Most games for this system "surprise" me in one way or another by the sheer PLAYABILITY of them. It seems even if the game is mediocre for the system it is still fully playable and fun.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
Man, the first time I saw the Dreamcast. This was before it was launched in America. I wandered into EBgames like any other day at the Rockaway Mall. But in the corner was a tv with a beautiful white system attached to it. I watched and saw the most beautiful graphics I have ever seen. Staring as Sonic swirled around those great big curves in the Sky level (forget the name). I asked the clerk who was demoing it .."Is that...a Dreamcast?". The reply was "Yup, we imported one from Japan--you want to play?". The funny part was that I said "No." And kept on watching. At the time the Dreamcast just seemed from another world--and it sort of was :D

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Couldn't afford it back in the day :( I did not get one until the Christmas they cut the price to $50. I now have 4 Dreamcasts :)

- How many games do you have for it?
15-20 and growing! There are so many more that I want to play it is amazing.

I think everyone should own a Dreamcast :)

Power Stone

Crazy Taxi, House of the Dead 2
- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
That the console would stop being produced
- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
I saw Sonic Adventure. It looked cool. I was gonna buy a Dreamcasta few years in, but it didn't make it that far.
- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
I bought it for $30 at a flea market
- How many games do you have for it?
about 10

-Favorite Game?

Crazy Taxi. I don't know. I just really like the game.

-Other Favs?

Tennis 2K2. Soul Calibur. NFL 2K whatever. I have really been putting a lot of time in on Tennis recently and I love it. All of the NFLs are good. The only football game my bro would play with me.

-Surprised? Infuriated?

The most surprising thing was how much Sonic Adventure was loved for the system by critics, yet when I played it, I just didn't find it fun at all. Just didn't have the same feel to it.

-First Time?

My friend bought it at launch, and he brought it with him to one of my travel team baseball tournaments. We played World Series Baseball and NFL 2K. Loved them both.

-Back in the Day?

Yes. I owned it back in the day when it went to 100$ and had games with it, but I wasn't a collector and I sold it. About 6 months ago, I bought another one for 20$.

-Games?

6 Right Now. I owned about 15 back in the day.

-Stories?

When my brother and I were playing NFL 2K1, we were about to trade Corey Dillon away from the Bengals. We decieded to initiated our trading of him that we would have him punt. He punted it 17 yards, and they returned the punt for a TD. Good riddance.

Ikaruga-love/hate type game, love it, but some spots just way too HARD!

Shenmue-just could not get into that game..

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction? No, i don't remember the first time i saw the system in auction, but i do remember when i got home after buying the system and my first game RE code veronica. which is a great great game!!

- What are some of your other favorites?

Hmmm, I'd have to go with Grandia 2, Ikuraga, Jet Set Radio, Soul Calibur, RE Code Veronica, and Virtua Tennis

I think the over all massiveness of Shenmue really suprised me how detailed it was. The game that pissed me off the most was Kiss Phyco circus....

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?

I think the first game I saw was Dead or Alive 2, it just looked amazing at the time as well as the girls ;) Then Sonic was amazing to watch. The picture with the whale comes to mind.

Yea had it since 9-9-99 as a B-day gift :)

- What is your favorite game on this system?
My favorite game has to be Sonic Adventure. I'm still amazed by the graphics, especially when on the bridge and the whale is chasing Sonic.

- What are some of your other favorites?
Any of the Sega Sports 2K games.

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
I was completely suprised by Shenmue. Never before had I seen a game so in-depth and detailed. Rippin' Riders infuriated me. I never played Cool Boarders for the PSX, so I had a hard time getting used to the controls.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction? I first saw the system being used on MSNBC, I think it was an E3 report. It was Sonic Adventure. I was so impressed that I went out and preordered the system.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now? I sure did. I bought it the day it came out 9/9/99.

- How many games do you have for it? Back in the day, I had about 25 games. Now, I have about 10.

What is your favorite game on this system?
I'm not sure since I haven't played that many, but I guess I'll go with Tennis 2k2

What are some of your other favorites?
Street Fighter: Third Strike, Ikaruga, Under Defeat

What games surprised you?
Ikaruga, I had heard alot of good things about this game, and haven't really been into the newer SHUMPS but, this game really is stunning visually and is alot of fun to play.
Infuriated you?
Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles, I can't even get past the first level! I don't know how to kill that stupid plane thing. I thought this game would be really fun, but actually its not and is kinda hard.

Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
Before I owned a DC, I don't think I've ever seen it in action, unfortunately :(

Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
I did not own the system when it was released. I just bought a DC a few months ago.

How many games do you have for it?
I have 6 legit games. Some homebrew software, and a few burnt games (I know, I know, but I don't want to have to spend 70+ dollars for Japanese games)

Favourites:
Capcom vs SNK
Chu Chu Rocket
Crazy Taxi
Fatal Fury / King of Fighters
Jet Set Radio
Ikaruga
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Rez
Seaman (I learned something about myself that month)
Shenmue
Soul Calibur (Souru Kyariba)
Sonic Adventure
Space Channel 5
Tokyo Extreme Racer 2 (fun but infuriating, like all racing games)

Least favorites:
Blue Stinger (character models show "joints" like an action figure)
Mortal Kombat: Gold (I haven't seen a good MK game outside the arcades until recenly anyways)
Sonic Shuffle (like Mario Hotel, a bas**** child of poor license decisions)
Who Wants to Beat Up a Millionaire? (wow, suck!)
Wrestling games

I vividly remember the heavy advertising campaign from back in the day, but the system was long gone before I tryed it for the first time. The VMUs confused me a bit, but the controller was easy to pick up compaired to the Dual Shock or the n64 controllers. I wouldn't pick up one of my own until January 2005, and I'm glad I did it then. That summer our local GameStop put everything on super clearance, and I came across lots of controllers and VMUs (several unopend in box!) at super cheap prices. As the Dreamcast stock between GameStop and the local pawn shops dried out, I started picking up the wrestling games and other things I wouldn't normally buy. That was when I figured I'ld go for a complete collection.

Currently I have 161 US games (including variants) with another 118 to go. I've also got another 20 Japanese imports. I'm always looking to buy anything that I don't have. I've got most of the official magazines, and am looking for the unofficial ones and other strat guides. I'ld love to buy a kiosk and dev unit some day.

I know it's said a lot, but the Dreamcast is by far the most overlooked system. I think its attributed to the shovelware that was multi-platform for the ps1 and n64. The lack of DVD seriously hurt it, but Dreamcast was right on the edge of not getting it, while the PS2 was right on the edge of getting it. A DVD addon was planned, but the Dreamcast didn't quite last long enough. Also, the lack of support from industry big hitters like EA and Square didn't help either. You can't say that Capcom didn't do their part though. Even their weakest games are fun to play, like Plasma Sword.

I recommend it to any Sega fan or collector. At less than 300 titles its a reasonable number to attain, and prices are rather low at the moment. The variants are rather well defined and are few. I would also recommend picking up a few consoles as the disc drives are extremely picky.

Last, and most important is to check out the homebrew and emulation scene. There are lots of truly uniqe titles out there that can be played without any mods. All you have to do is burn a regular cd-r with DiscJuggler (recommended) or Nero. Emulation is also superior to a PC because you actually have a game pad in your hands instead of a keyboard, though some do run slow.

I must repeat myself, fun to play, fun to collect.

Steve W

Favorite game? Phantasy Star Online. I only played the single-player offline mode, but still, amazing.

Other games I love on the Dreamcast? South Park Rally, Unreal Tournament, Alien Front Online, Demolition Racer: No Exit, San Francisco Rush 2049, Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense (even with the painfully bad physics in comparison to other versions), Star Wars Demolition, and countless others.

Least favorite games? Wild Metal (I read good things about this one in the Official Dreamcast Magazine before it came out, only to find that it sucked balls), Red Dog, Heavy Metal Geomatrix, Space Channel 5 (this was my first rhythm game, which showed me that I have absolutely no rhythm whatsoever), Urban Chaos, Armada, Charge N' Blast, Fighting Force 2, and many others.

Did I own the system back in the day? Yep, bought it in December of 1999. I hadn't bought a modern game console since the Jaguar, and finally wanted to get something current. Bought Expendable as my first game, and a week or so later (on my birthday) bought Soul Fighter (total crap), Hydro Thunder, and Vigilante 8: Second Offense. About three weeks later, my father passed away, and I played a lot of DC games to distract myself from my grief.

How many games do I have for it? Around 90 to 100. What suprises me when I look at my collection is how few duds there are in comparison to my other consoles. Maybe I had better taste than in the olden days, or maybe it was because it was the first console that I could hop online and get honest reviews of the games before buying them.

Apparently, I never did this?

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Probably Powerstone 2. My friends and I used to plug that in back in the day and play it for about 3 hours every friday night. One time we played it for 6 hours straight!

- What are some of your other favorites?
Oh, there's a lot. Under Defeat, Border Down, Last Hope, Marvel vs Capcom, Sonic Adventure, Space Channel 5, Rez, Mr. Driller...and so on

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Last Hope surprised me, because everyone online declared how much it sucked. I thought it was a boatload of fun! My dreamcast hasn't seen so much action in a while. On the same token it's hard as hell, so I'd wager that fulfills the infuriation.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction? First time I saw the system in action was early 99, when I went over to my friend Brian's place and saw his import Dreamcast that he had bought shortly after the japanese launch. I saw some Sonic Adventure, some King of Fighters, and some Alpha 3. I was impressed with how much better it looked than my PS1 and N64, although I wasn't exactly blown away by the visuals in the fighting games.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
I got my Dreamcast in late 2000, as I recall. Some months later the price dropped to the 50 bucks, and I got a chunk of games on the cheap. My original DC is packed away in the closet since it has that nasty resetting problem...I now use my friend's machine that he sold to me. It's region free, which makes it perfect for all the import games available nowadays.

- How many games do you have for it?
55.

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
Every Friday night in 2001, and into 2002, my friends would all gather at one of our number's basement, and play Dreamcast games all night. Powerstone 2 was a big one, as was capcom vs snk 1/2, marvel vs capcom 1/2, sf3 3rd strike, SNK fighters, Mr. Driller, Gauntlet...the list goes on. We only really stopped because people started having to work friday nights and saturday mornings...but for a while the world was our oyster.

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Hands down, Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves. Especially with that lovely controller ACSII put out.

- What are some of your other favorites?
Jet Set, Grandia II, Cannon Spike, Crazy Taxi, Skies of Arcadia, Resident Evil: Code V.

- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Record of Lodoss. I wanted to like this game so badly, since I adore the anime. Then I found both Parn and Deedlit in the game and they have British accents. I hate voicing acting sometimes.

- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
Wow, Sonic Adventure blows. Oh wow...so does Evolution. I hate this system. I'm returning it to Best Buy. Later when RE:CV was released I re-bought the system and loved it.

- Did you own the system "back in the day"?
I picked on up in fall of 2000 - right before the PS2 launched. But my home was robbed and I got another one (Sega Smash pack included) in 2001 with insurance cash. -How about now?- That system is with me today.

- How many games do you have for it?
47 total (I just got Karous today!)

- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?

Sure, we´ve been playing VF3tb at a friend, who luckily got his DC one week before me- while i was still waiting for mine to arrive from Japan.
i remember i have been a little bit underwhelmed by the graphics, but i didn´t care, since the game was / is so good... nowadays i also really love it´s graphics and prefer the overall look over Soul Calibur or Dead or Alive 2 (gameplay wise anyway)

1. Favorite Game - currently, I'm addicted to Ms. Pacman Maze Madness, so I'll say that one.
2. Other favorites include Air Force Delta, Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Blue Stinger, Caesars Palace 2000, and Star Wars Demolition.
3. My most infuriating game is Kiss Psycho Circus. As a Kiss fan, I was expecting a lot, and was delivered NONE of it. Argh...
4. The DC was the first game I purchased after the "poor game-less years" of high school, college, and immediately after college - so when I saw Soul Calibur and the NBA games I KNEW that my Genesis wasn't going to do the job anymore.
5. I own just under 100 games for the DC now, mostly because I have a CRAPPY local collector market, so I have to win them on ebay or find them here on DP.

Oh, and I welcome this thread back to the current pages!

The Dreamcast, besides my wife, it's the one lifetime commitment I will always have, as this system is the best thing ever. EVER!!! It has to be the last true gamers system with a lot of interesting and classic styled games.

My favorite game for the Dreamcast... that's really hard for me to choose, but at the end of the day, I'd have to say Project Justice. Got it new for $40 dollars way back in 2002, it was one of my first DC games and I still play it today. My other favorites have to be RE: CV (best version of the game, IMO), Grandia 2 (best RPG battle system around), and the Street Fighter 3 games (shouldn't have to explain).

Games that have surprised me.... Speed Devils. When I first saw it, I figured it'd be a mess of a game, but it's actually pretty good. I wouldn't call it a classic, but it's a very fun game. Also, Demolition Racer: No Exit is an EXCELLENT game. Kind of a Burnout before there was a Burnout. Infuriated.... right now my light gun games, but that's because I can't get the damn light guns to read right.

Favorite Game: Tough choice! Probably Capcom Vs. SNK 2, I think I've put more time into that game than i'd care to admit.

Other favorites: Crazi Taxi, Soul Calibur, Ikaruga, Samba De Amigo, theres so many great games for the DC!

Surprising games: Space Channel 5 was surprising for me, and actually got me more interested in the music genre of gaming, which led me to Samba De Amigo.

Infuriating games: Ikaruga. But not infuriating in a bad way. No other game has gotten me so angry where beating it on any difficulty has made me feel like I just climbed Mt. Everest.

The first time I saw the DC being played was at a friends house, and we sat around playing Crazy Taxi for hours on end. To this day, i still like to pop in that game from time to time.

Never owned the system back in the day, but I picked one up about 5 or 6 months ago. Unfortunately, theres what seems to be water damage in and around the controller port, so i need to get it checked out.

As much as I hate to admit it, I only own one actual DC game: Crazy Taxi.

Well, I've brought my Dreamcast along with my games for it to multiple con's and parties, and most of the time the entire group of people with uys would be focused on just playing that for hours on end, having a great time.
