Last night - while I was browsing the PlayStation 2 shelves in PC World - I spotted a copy of This Is Football 2003. Criminal mistake #1: This game is awful. This game is old. This game should not be on the shelves in mid-2005! This copy, however, wasn’t your average copy of a below-par game… oh no!
Criminal mistake #2: This special copy came with a fake, printed cover on a badly cropped piece of white paper. They neglected to print the back cover, and the flip side featured a thumbnail picture of the front cover with "£19.99" scribbled above it.

In the end, I decided to pass on this sealed, mint condition copy of TIF 2003.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

yeah i've seen loads of examples

like in GAME a few times.. they had rocky selling pre-owned with a dodgy printed cover (which was actually the american cover, but with english parts cropped in)

they had a copy of sonic adventure 2 on the cube again with a printed cover, but the cover wasnt the actual cover art it was based on a poster (it wrapped the whole case)

then there has been times when i've bought a brand new game from them and it's been scratched to fuck, so i questioned them about it and it turns out that when a game gets returned to them during their ten day return period it's automatically sold a snew again to cover their losses, the game i bought was a returnee allthough i was under the impression it was brand spanking new

theres an independent shop near me, and they sell brand new games, allthough none of them are in their proper cases (like the cube has the small disc holder and mem card slot, the ps2 are generally blue case, and the xbox with the green cases) well this place sells the games in generic dvd cases with printed covers and sometimes no instructions yet still charges full price money

sometimes there are some pretty good times in some places though such as currently dixons has a price slash on a lot of games so i got smack down shut your mouth for the princely sum of £1.97 and it was quite funny because i actually bought two, because some kid was getting turned away because he wasnt old enough to make the purchase so i sold him my second one for £5 :D so in essence i got my game for free with profit

See, my places all do the printed cover, but when you bring that to the front counter...they have the game with the correct box behind the counter. If you buy a game there, and they don't have the correct box...I'd abandon that shop.

I bought Max Payne 2 from Amazon recently, and the cardboard box was heavily dented while the three discs were unbelievably scratched!

And when I bought my Nintendo DS the other month, I was almost sold a used one for the exact same price as a new one. Thankfully I overheard them I stumped up the cash!
