View Full Version : Ever wanted to do this?
Ever pay more than you would like to for an item and feel like forcing the guy who bid you up to pay the difference? Don't deny it. We've all felt that way a few times.
So who here (assuming he's a DP'er) is mr. whiskers? I'd like my $400 back please. O_O
Never felt that way. If the price gets too high, I drop out! Simple as that. Even if I want it really bad, I just will not pay over a specific limit.
I have however, come across multi-items sales, were the 2nd highest bidder emailed me, and we split up what I got. Saved some money doing this a few times!

One time I bid way more than I was willing to pay for an item. Then someone comes along at the last second and jacks the bid up to $4 below my max bid. I was shocked but I wanted the thing pretty bad. Turns out he is a DP member too.

That has happened to me on a couple occasions, but I would never expect the 2nd high bidder to pay me back. LOL I got bid up $50 on an item in the last 2 freaking seconds. Ouch!!! I can't really complain though, since I probabley done this countless times to other people.
I have noticed that Mr. Whiskers is buying/bidding on lots of really high end items lately.
What the hell did he bid you up $400 on though? That is in insane amount to be bid up by. Snipe next time! ;)

One time I bid on a game and wrote a wrong maxbid. I put a "," instead of a "." so my maxbid was over 2000 euro instead of 20.00 something..
At the end some other guy had put in a bid on 91 euro so I won the game for 92 euro. Luckily the seller understood my problem and manage to sell it to the other bidder instead. He even gave me positive feedback :)
But ontopic, yes, I have done this sometimes. But I'm aware that I might break his/her bid and win the auction. If so I would pay of course.
What the hell did he bid you up $400 on though?
I'll let you know when I receive it. I've had problems with non-bidders offering money to the seller after the item was already won so I won't risk it. Also, I did snipe but so did the other guy. I had no idea he wanted it as badly as me,
But yes, I'm sure I've screwed other people, too. That's the only enjoyment I get when losing. Knowing that I at least forced the other guy to pay a lot. x_x

I've done that a few times. Most times I bid up to my max and stop which wouldn't count, but occassionally if its a bidder I know who always is outbidding me or a reseller who charges $6.95 S&H per game with no combined shipping I go ahead and push it a little further.
One time I was really PO'ed about getting sniped with 30 seconds left that I sniped back and ended up winning an item for about $50 more than what I wanted to bid. It turned out really good for me though, the auction ended up being worth nearly 10x my original estimates.
8bitnes,
Do tell what the item was.
I'll go ahead and let it be known that my item is the Mario Statue. Should be arriving late this week.

What are you like 12? This sounds very childish. I believe you are also the same DP member who started the "Payback is an itch" thread. Has this turned into your own personal vandetta or what?
Oh no. I have a 9 year old hating on me for being 12. Let's show some respect for fellow DP'ers.

Hey, I was just asking a question, why do you have to start flaming other members. I am simply pointing out that you seem to have taken something that happened within the rules and regulations of eBay kinda personal. End of topic, no flame war needed! Chill!

NES, this is seriously ridiculous. If you didn't want to spend $400 on the statue then why did you bid it? Further more if you are happy you are getting the item why are you constantly making topics badmouthing mr whiskers for bidding you up?
Its one or the other, I'm sure you would have loved to get the statue for whatever the minimum bid was but please stop with threads complaining about getting bid up.
On top of that, how can you say to have respect for a fellow DPer when you are bad mouthing mr whiskers who might also be a DPer. Just have respect for another person...

Why's a 12 year old buying $400 statues anyway? Was your mom seriously ticked when she got the bill? :P

i sat on an auction for the last 10 minutes and still lost it.. i clicked refresh at least 100 times, the last one, i was at 9 seconds remaining, still winning, clicked refresh, 5 seconds remaining "You have been outbit by another bidder" F#@%!
*attacks the bid again button* "Bidding for this item has ended, you were outbid" F$#@!!
i was shaking and stuff.. i get really worked up about money..
it was a famicom disk system in emaculate condition in box (also emaculate) with 24 disk system games.
it went for almost AU$200.. i dont know if i could even have afforded it, but i'd have found a way.
oh yeah, we take it seriously we do sometimes. I know I've experience sniping jitters when I was just starting out. You'll still get an occasional fast pulse if you're watching the item u want being sniped.
