Good news for mobile couch potatos: New image of official Sony TV tuner suggests you could soon be watching the box on the go.

If you fancy catching the latest instalment of Big Brother or that all important footie match on the go you could be in luck. Reports suggest that Sony is about to announce a TV tuner for the PSP, and we've got an image of it right here.

You may remember that Sony originally discussed such a piece of kit way back in 2002, but this solid-looking gadget has emerged from sources in Japan. It connects to your PSP via the Memory Stick Duo port and looks surprisingly small.

Sony has not commented on whether the PSP TV tuner will indeed be getting a release any time soon, but the electronics giant has confirmed in the past that it intends to embed TV functionality in its PDAs and hendheld devices.

Edit: I don’t see why Sony wouldn’t pursue this corner in their PSP market. This would really put Nintendo DS in a tight spot if we could watch TV on our PSP amongst everything else, plus it’s already on a memory stick ready to be put in!

It looks cool but I am surprised to see that it plugs into the memory card slot. I would have assumed that it plugged into the USB port. This will make it hard to hold the syste, while the device is in place. Me thinketh, this stinketh.

I would assume this would only get local programming, but if they figured out a way to get your cable settings hooked in wirelessly somehow, that would be cool. Does anyone even watch just the local channels (antenna channels)?

Sega did that over 10 years ago with GameGear. LOL

NEC did it before that with the TG-Express.
Anyway, I'd like to know if it is going to use OTA HDTV!! (Over the Air High Def signals...think Superbowl)
Is the PSP screen resolution HD quality?

Hmm, this hasn't worked yet (TGE and GG), and I don't see it working to well now. They just dont get good reception. Any wireless TV, everything is always static and what not. hopefully with new technology we get one that can get some good reception. If this thing is some-what cheap though I will pick it up. Now, there is going to be an open UMD slot...... how awsome would it be if they made blank discs to copy your shows onto. I don't know hardware so is this possible? If so I think it would be neat for sony to take advantage of.

The UMD drive is read only...thats why you have to use a memory card to save game progress.
In short...not possible in the way you described.
