Hey everyone,
I have a day off with nothing to do so I’m going to bike around the city looking for games. I have 22 pawn shops ect. mapped out but I don’t know how many I’ll get done. I’ll post a follow up with what I find! Wish me luck!

Sounds like fun, actually.
I was riding a bicycle when I "officially" began collecting in 1994. I found an Atari 2600 (4-switch woody) with all hookups and 12 games at a Goodwill in Nebraska. Paid $30 for the whole thing. It all barely fit in the shoulder bag I was carrying and I got these little welts under my arm from this awkwardly stuff bag banging against my body for the 5-mile-ride home. But it was totally worth it because I finally had a 2600 again for the first time since 1988. :D
Eagerly awaiting the outcome of Faxanadu's adventure. Hope he finds some good stuff.

I actually ran into Mr. Faxandu today while hunting.
I walked into a local Microplay and saw some guy looking at the NES games. I was thinking "damn it, there better not be something good in there because he is going to get it." I didn't know if he was a collector or anything though (we've never met before).
I walked up behind him and he moved out of the way so I could see some stuff. I was looking at a few games, and then looking at my lists in my duotang to see if I needed any of the NES games they had.
He said to me: "Are you trying to complete a collection or something."
At this point, I still didn't know if he was a collector or just some guy.
I said: "Yeah, I am actually trying to get all of the NES games. I've got about 550 now."
At this point, he knew I was a collector, but I didn't know if he was.
He said: "Do you have any of the rarer games..."
After he said that, I was pretty sure that he knew his stuff... so I said: "Well, I don't have anything like Stadium Events or the Panesians or anything like that."
Now, I had a good feeling that he knew about rarity, and thus DP. So I said: "Are you on DP or cgcc or something" (cgcc is a Canadian Forum).
He said: "Yeah, I'm actually on DP and lurk around cgcc a bit. And as a matter of fact, I made a post this morning about how I am going out hunting for 6 hours, did you see it."
I said: "Yeah, thats you... that is awsome."
So yeah, that was my day. It is actually alot of fun meeting somebody from this forum. We were standing there talking about games for like 10 minutes and then we went down the street to the next pawn shop 8-) .
When I saw him, I don't think he had anything. I hope he found some stuff later on in the day. :D

I met a random collector in a game shop once, then I seen him again at my next pawn shop stop. I didn't like this, I don't like people stepping in on my turf, so I sent him on a wild goose chase to a non-existant shop on the other side of town.

Hey everyone ! Ok so what the hell did you guys do to my thread!!! I'm looking for it and find that it's a HOT TOPIC LOL
Anyway, the hunt is over! I went to several pawn/thrift shops in Ottawa as recommended by the cgcc.ca city guides. Here’s what I found:
Several PSX long boxes (Kings Field, Return Fire and Raiden) Got them for 3 bucks each
6 NES games – Excite Bike, SMB2, SMB3, Ghosts and Goblins, and Dragon Warrior for 3 bucks each.
So overall it was a good hunt I guess.
Unbelievably, I met up with another collector who was also on a small hunt for video games. It turns out that he’s Jumpman Jr. from this site!
For those of you in the Ottawa area, I’ve listed what stores I went to. The description is what the people at CGCC.ca think about them and in bold is what I thought. As you can see there are definitely some store that both the CGCC and myself agree on!
##########1
Goodwill - 1239 Donald St.
- Over the years have had very few finds here. A couple of Atari 2600 carts and NES carts on several occasions. Nothing
remarkable though.
Nothing there…. Few electronics
##########2
Howards Buy-Sell-Trade - 1235 Donald St.
- Same plaza as the Goodwill, better hunting grounds. Lots of stuff to root through, from NES up there is plenty of
selection. There are a few Atari 2600 carts at any given time, usually priced at $5 each, same with INTV. Never seen
any Coleco carts there. I've never found any really rare stuff but the sheer volume of items along with an always
changing inventory, makes this a must on my hunting tour.
Bins and Bins of games including Atari, colecovision, INTV, NES, SNES….NES systems are 19.99. They had 2 boxed colecovision expansion units for $30 each although the boxes were in crappy condition. Overall this was the best stop of my hunt
######## 3
Howards Pawn Shop - 425 McArthur Ave.
- Once again, a lot of selection from PSX up, including a decent number of DC games, very few NES games, and nothing
older than that. Being a pawn shop it's always possible something can turn up there, but if you're playing percentages,
there are better stops to make than this one.
Decent slection…sega cd lots of PSX nothing too old
######## 4
Salvation Army - 333 Montreal Rd.
- Once again, visited a few times and never found any games here. Seems to be primarily clothing and furniture. Not a
place to stop at while hunting.
Nothing there…. Few electronics

######## 5
Salvation Army - 2405 St. Laurent Blvd.
- By far the nicest location. This is the depot of the Salvation Army and they typically house their best here. The
best furniture, appliances etc.. I haven't found too much as far as gaming goes, but I have scored some NES, Coleco,
and C64 goodies here. The plus is, if there is games here, you are virtually guaranteed they'll be in top shape,
sometimes even shrinked. This spot is worth checking out regularly.
CLOSED DOWN
######## 6
Value Village - 1824 Bank St.
- Probably the most visited Value Village by Collectors, so finding anything is hit and miss, but there is plenty of
stuff that goes through here, the trick is being the one that gets it. I've never really scooped anything too rare
here, although lots of volume, commons abound for the 2600 and INTY.
Nothing there….
######## 7
Salvation Army - 2950 Bank St.
- A nice store that might otherwise have potential except that one of the employees who works there likes games and
freely admits she has "first crack" at anything that comes in. In my experience, not many finds here, but worth a
sporadic drop in to see if anything is lying around.
Nothing there….
######## 8
Microplay - 2430 Bank St.
- Similar to the Centrum Blvd. Microplay. There isn't a concerted effort to inventory Classic items, but when they are
there, the prices are usually reasonable. Lots of NES, SNES and even some TG16 in inventory. All the newer systems.
Worth dropping in. At the time of this writing they still had a few Dungeon Explorers for TG16 in stock as well as a
few other titles.
######## 9
Swap 'n Shop - 1610 Merivale Rd.
- Not a place I've ever been to. I'm listing it here because a couple of Collectors from this site have scored very
nicely here. Scores includes rare Coleco titles like Xonox Double Enders for $3, Atari games, NES games at low prices.
Can't hurt to check it out, in fact I think I will as well.
Good selection! Had Atari, SNES, NES… all common carts
######## 10
Microplay - 1556 Merivale Rd.
- Very slim pickings for Classics here. Never really found anything to get excited about. Even the NES inventory is
scarce. Not a stop for the Collector.
######## 11
Value Village - 1375 Clyde Ave.
- The newest Value Village in the region and the one I visit the least. I've scored a few commons here for INTY, but
I'm sure other Collectors are hitting this a lot more frequently than I am, so they're reaping the rewards. Worth
checking out.
Nothing there….
######## 12
Howards Pawn Shop - 1061 Merivale Rd.
- Of all the Howards Pawn shops you could pick, this would be the one to stop at. This particular area of town, err,
lends itself to pawn shops being popular, the inventory is always changing, and the ladies who run the shop are not shy
to bring in different stuff to see if it will sell. This remains the only place in this city that I have ever seen
Neo-Geo MVS carts in the wild. Prices are fair, and although I've never seen any pre-NES stuff there, if it were
offered, they'd take it. It would not surprise me one bit to find a big whack of Classics there one day.
Lots to offer… mostly post PSX. Some SNES. Lost of burnt games :>
######## 13
Salvation Army - 1322 Carling Ave.
- This is a stop I used to make, until the games dried up, and so did my interest. Not a stop I make anymore, and I'd
suggest you skip it too.
1 Super Mario world
######## 14
Second Time Around - 1099 Wellington Rd.
- This is the dark horse of the lot, and one that I considered not putting on here, as it was one of my "secret stops".
But since this is all about helping my Collecting brethren (and sithren? Is there such a thing. Seems rather odd that
you can have brethren but not sithren, but I digress) I shall share its secret with thee. This second hand store is in
another one of these areas that really lends itself to pawns. I have taken whole boxes of stuff out of here in the
past. The sweet thing about it is, until I wrote this, I don't expect I had much competition here. Let the games begin!
Worth a stop to see if he got in some new stuff.
Forgot to go
######## 14B
Cash Advantage Pawnbrokers - 1218 Wellington Rd.
- One store that I need to get to more often. When I've gone, which isn't often, there's been decent stuff, from NES
up, at decent prices. Never seen anything pre-NES, although I did pick up a couple of copies of Lunar:SSS for Sega CD
there for $5 each.
Old dirty snes, NES common carts. Some PSX
######## 14C
Saint Vincent de Paul - 1273 Wellington Rd.
- This is a place I stop at regularly. Finds used to be fairly regular, but have now become more scarce. When you do
see them, they're dirt cheap. Loose carts for under a dollar and boxed complete games for INTY at $2. Grabbed a dozen
boxed INTY carts about as month ago, but that is certainly the exception these days.
Fair number of NES carts. 7 N64 w 2 controller packages for $10 each. NOT BAD
