Anyone have any idea if all 30 of the black box games were released in Canada with the bilingual label / mattel markings? I know most of them exist but I'm wondering if some of the rarer ones were distributed here... e.g. Cdn dk jr math exist? Would be pretty scarce I think. X_x

I would assume that it does, pretty much every other one comes in a Canadian form.

I hear you, that's my assumption also but I was hoping to take the guesswork out of it. Anybody have one?

A little off-topic... but I have saw a small boxe dk jr. math and it did not fetch much. It was complete. Is the PAL small box Dk Jr. Math rare?

So you would say it is common to find black boxe complete european Dk Jr. Math, like way more common than other? (USA, Canadian, etc.)

Also what is the story behind dk. jr math. People say it is very rare to find with boxe, etc. Is there any story associated with it that make it rarer? (I should maybe search the forum!) -- Maybe it is just not a title that were produced in mass?

Dont know how many that were produced, but I had not much problems finding a complete Dk. Jr. Math smallbox version for a decent price. Im acctualy waiting for it right now in the mail :)

There is also a very rare Popeye education game that only was released for Famicom called Popeye no Eigo Asobi. A guy said he could get it for me for about $300 complete. But thats too much for me.

Finding it, doesn't mean it is not rare. But then I cannot say. I have not hunted all USA games and there is maybe games that are rarer than we think and vice versa.

Well by browsing, I saw someone who bought a dk jr math pal smallbox on ebay recently, it was not high. Maybe 15-30$. Maybe that is you! I guess also finding it in "brand new" condition, will be harder.

Of course, if its easy to find its not really rare. Same here, havnt searched for the dk. jr. math NTSC version, but what i've read here at DP the box and manual are really hard to find.
I have a brand new cart and manual of dk. jr. math smallbox version, but is missing the box. Thats why I bought it again :)

Exactly, with some perseverance, you will find the cart. The "problem" is with the box/manual which are a pain in the ass to get.

Remember that DK jr Math got a very low production run and was pulled out of the game list in the very first years of the NES life.

Ya, the story is that most kids don't like math ;)

As for a Canadian version, I've seen bilingual boxes/packaging for every black box game except Dk Jr. Math and BIG box Gyromite. But I've always just assumed that they exist.

I think a have a picture of the bilingual BIG box Gyromite. If DK Jr Math was released in Canada, it NEED to have a bilingual box/manual. Otherwise, I will be very surprize.

Bronty: It might be worth a shot and mail Nintendo in Canada :) I remember some old NES lists in the official Nintendo magazine here in Europe. Said which game who wasnt sold anymore. Think it was something like this atleast.

I think, the reason why DK jr Math got a short life, it's probably because of bad sale and Nintendo quickly saw that game doesnt drew a big crowd, so they simply pulled the plug on the "educational serie".

SO... we all agree that DK jr Math wasn't a launch title correct? eventhough nintendo said it was after they said it wasn't... correct? So that means nintendo probably would have pulled it somewhere between when it was put out and the end of hangtag boxes (in 88, with karnov... correct?)

Looks like Nintendo probably produced a go ahead run of the carts... released them, saw them do really bad and didn't make up anymore and let it die out when they re-released popeye, mario bros and all those black box series games again (non-hangtag, gold and black oval seal, 3 screw (non security), with no country code).

So Dk jr Math came out with all the arcade classics? what year was that? 86 or 87? Just kinda curious. It can't be a launce title now can it? Never seen a famicom adapter.

Anyways.... i've never seen a canadian Dk jr Math... but would love to own one. A scan of that cart that says CAN would make be quiver with delight. sniper... could you post your picture?

DK Jr Math was released in the US in october 1985, which is the same date has Duck Hunt and Gyromite (both available in the Deluxe Set). So, that's mean it was a lunch title. Unless they wanna "lie" about it :D

Now, my cart doesnt say "Can" anywhere. It's a 5 screws version. I bought it in a flea market in Laval, QC (suburb of Montreal). I know, this doesnt prove anything but the possibility the game was never released in Canada, it's in my mind too.

Only DK jr Math I saw in the wild.

actually i do believe nintendo is lying. maybe bronty or another nes nut can back me up on this.

In one of early nintendo powers it was stated as being released with the arcade series. Then, in nintendo power 50 (or something) they magically changed it to being released as a launch title.

Why would this game be released at launch and all the other DK games released a year or two later? Doesn't make sense. I think nintendo IS wrong with their dates and this game was indeed released along with the arcade series.

Is there anyone out there that can remember NES launch day in the US? Do you remember seeing a DK jr math alongside excitebikes and super mario brothers?

Yeah, it would have been pulled before the end of the hangtab boxes, definitely. Exactly when that was I can't say for sure, but as you mention, karnov is the latest release for which I can find a hangtab box (so far - there might well be others).

The arcade classics year was 1986. By mid 87 or so they were releasing 'grey boxes' and then zelda, tyson, and the rest of the non bb titles.

as josh said, we've discussed in the past that the 1985 date is wrong, to the best of my belief. Apparently there was a nintendo power article that erroneously listed it as a 1985 release, and that article was the reference point for many future lists.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you know those old posters that came in the bb titles? If you find the first version of that poster, I think it has 17 games, not 18 (ie no dk math) but the memory is hazy on that one.

Does your cart have two seals of approval or one? Bilingual or just english? If just english/one seal, I would suggest it must be a US copy.

Can you post it?

I was going to say the same thing about the 'CAN' designation. As far as I know, even the earliest carts released in Canada said 'CAN'. They didn't have a 'NES-xx-' along side it, but they all say 'CAN' at the very least (to my knowledge)

Also Bronty, you are aware that the early 'CAN' carts have only one seal right? All of my carts that just say 'CAN' have one seal that is circular and the fine print is entirely in English. The boxes have two seals, but the carts only have one.

Interesting! No, I never knew that. I really just collect sealed so I assumed the carts had two seals since the boxes (the only part I can look at on a sealed copy) have two seals. thanks for the tip!

Mine is english only with one seal, so the chance are good this is a US version.

The oldest poster I have is "The Nintendo Game Plan" with ROB.

At the bottom right corner, a screenshot of DK Jr Math. The poster code is "CAN-15". Bottom left corner have the Mattel logo.
