In recent times?

I can think of two (render of a portable GameCube, and the very recent one), but I'm sure there have been others lately. How many can we think of? I'm trying to figure out if we've had more Nintendo-related hoaxes than ones for other system manufacturers.

There was that retarded helmet-virtua-boy video of the "Revolution" that went around right before E3.. it was a well-produced video but anybody that thought it was real was still a moron.

Then there was a list of titles that would be available to download via the real Revolution, but it was just a list of all Nintendo-published games through the years that someone tried to make a news story out of.

What recent hoax are you referring to?

I remember the portable GameCube one, which looked pretty swish!

I wish Nintendo really did make that portable GameCube.

Did you read the first post at all?

I read the first post and I still don't know what recent hoax you're referring to.

Remember that mockup of the system called the Nexus? That was cool.

Another one I remember is that rumor that the DS would be the controller for the Revolution.

while i dont know if nintendo has more hoaxes related to them than other companies, i think the fact that they operates with a higher level of secrecy than ms or sony has to do with all the recent hoaxes. i mean when you have nintendo saying our new system is gonna be REVOLUTIONARY but we're not gonna tell you why--that kind of stuff is perfect fodder for hoaxes.

Because I'm not referring to any. Read the title again, see where it says "how many?" Yeah, that's the ticket.

There was that "Nexus" console

A number fake games and such being rumours. I think there was a Mario 1 and also a Pokemon 1 within the last few years, but the details elude me.

Okay. Looks like I'm going to have to try to keep on top of all the rumors coming out, cross-platform.

Go to www.kotaku.com and click on file under:Nintendo on the first Nintendo-related post you see. They have a large library of hoax photos.

I think he's confused because in the first post, you cited examples as the "render of a portable GameCube, and the very recent one." But you didn't specify what "the very recent one" was.

Yes, that's what I don't get, and he did say there were two. However, now that I think about it, I think that it was the story about all the free games for download on the Revolution, as in "how many" games you are supposedly going to be able to download.

OK. So like, in case people can't understand a few words of English, I'll just say it again: please give some examples of video game hoaxes from recent times. Actually I'd like to see how many hoaxes for competing console manufacturers there have been, too (i.e. did anybody make a Microsoft Handheld hoax?)

i have not seen this portable gamecube hoax, however i HAVE seen a video taken with a video camera, of somebody playing a protable gamecube, however it was huuge, it was someones home project, they had a plastic mould made for it and built the whole thing themself. much like the portable ps2 consoles i've seen around.. people do atari's all the time, and nes consoles not so often but often enough.

There was that whole megaton business back in late 2002. This website (http://www.n-sider.com/articleview.php?articleid=188) can explain it much better than I possibly could.

My google-fu isn't so great at the moment, so I can't find a video of another hoax I remember. Some gents made a video in which they claimed that they could make their Xbox play Gamecube games. They "proved" this by showing a very fuzzy clip of the Wind Waker being "played" on an Xbox. Obvious hoax, but it got people talking...

Anyone remember that great hoax about how the Revolution would require that you buy a DS and use it as a controller?

Anyone remember that great hoax about how the Revolution would require that you buy a DS and use it as a controller?

But, that theory has not been completely thrown out the window yet, with the talk of using the PSP in the same manner, it's definately not too far fetched.

Though this conversation is continuing the stray from the question of "How many" (to which I answer "many!") - I think that the whole rumor-mill as far as all games go is more itnriguing now than any other time. The technology (these days) offers so much more, and so many more possibilities. Gone are the days of Q-man guessing what the next system Street Fighter II will appear on, things are so much more interesting now.

By the RECENT hoax - are you referring the the leaked revolution advert or the latest controller mock-up sheet?

Remember the old hoaxes?
"They're out of microchips in Japan so can't bring Adventure of Link to the US." Gimme a fucking break.

Dude, nobody understood your original post, we can't all be wrong. You said you knew of a specific hoax (which you listed), and the "recent one."

Moderately off topic, but I spent two hours trying to unlock Simon Belmont in TMNT 2. Two hours. Yes, I know, I'm an idiot, but I was so mad I didn't buy EGM for an entire year afterwards.

For the kids out there, EGM did an april fools joke years ago stating that there was a code to unlock Simon Belmont in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 for the NES.

I read the original post as we should list all of the recent nintendo-related hoaxes. He wasn't asking for a specific one, just any of the recent ones we could think of.

Unfortunatley, I can't think of any that haven't been listed already. Sorry bro.
