View Full Version : The most you'll pay at a swap/sale for common NES/SNES cart

What's the most you will usually pay at a swap meet or yard sale for a common NES or SNES cartridge that you need. I don't like to pay over $2 for a NES and $3 for a SNES.
Of course if it's a desirable or "rare" cartridge that you either need or could trade/resell, that's a different story.
What are your thoughts?

This actually belongs in the video game forum.
I won't pay over 3.00, btw.

I know, I simply made a mistake. I thought I was in the Video Game section when I hit "New Topic" but I was actually in Off-Topic. Sorry about that.
If someone can move this, I would appreciate it. :)

Your numbers sound about right. I can't see myself paying 3 bucks or more at a flea for a common NES cart unless it was something that I had been looking for for awhile.

well, at a dollar each or less I would buy them all except for Mario / Duckhunt.
2 or 3 bucks seems pretty reasonable; the video game guy at my local flea market charges 3.00 each, and I've already picked him clean and bought all the good stuff.

For NES games, $2-$3 is about my average as well.
SNES games seem to average $5-$10 at the flea markets. I had much better luck getting good deals on SNES games during the 2004 Gamestop clean-out.

At the fleas in Edmonton up here in Canada (eh), the commons are $5...sometimes $10. @_@
It's stupid, and I don't buy them from there.
$5 is the most I pay for commons and I have to have been wanting it for a while to pay that... :)

Unless we're talking sports games (in which case I generally try to not purposely pay ANYTHING for them), I'll usually pay up to $3 for an NES cart and $5 for a SNES, Genesis, or N64 cart. For other stuff, well... I don't buy frequently enough to form a price limit habit. If it's something I really want or it's more valuable, then, sure, I'll fork out more.

I don't buy nes or snes games, but that's good to know if I ever do start buying them.
I do buy n64 games and my limit is $3.50 after s/h. I lost out on a few auctions on eBay with my $3 limit, so I bumped it to $3.50 and that seems to help =).
Never found games I wanted at a yard sale, but I'd probably be willing to pay a little more since I get to see exactly (condition, etc.) what I'm getting and there's no wait.

I'll pay $3 each for mint NES games that I don't have, regardless of rarity.

I agree. $3 for a common is my cap. Sure the game sold for $30-$40 new but it isn't worth more than $3 to me.

$3 for pretty much everything at the most.
Although I will go higher if I really want the game.

ill chime in
id pay $3 for a common cart if its one i want that i dont have and feel like playing right away. otherwise its not worth even a dollar. ill just end up picking up the commons in some lot on ebay that i buy because its got some good rare games in it. i used to seem to have a knack picking up common games and then managing to pick up four more copies a week later.

I like to pay between $1-3 for common NES/SNES carts..Boxed $5.00..If I need the cart or it seems unusual $5.00
If it clicks in my head as rare the most $10.00 and if I know it's rare I will go much more(depending on the rarity)
Mario / Duckhunt I like to get for 50 cent to $1.00 ..I do buy them to include with NES systems I sell.
I still do pass on some needed $3.00 common NES carts because I don't like the seller... don't like their attitudes, tactics etc..
They'll sit on carts for over a year(unbelievable, but true) because they won't lower for more then a 1 cart purchase like 2 for 5~~~~-4 for 10 etc..No breaks..

I try not to buy simply for colection purposes. Basicly, it realy depends on how much I want the game. If its something I realy want, I wont care if its rare or common, just that I want it. In that case, I'd pay up to 8$ for it complete, or 5$ loose. If it was an actualy rare title like Uncharted Waters or Nobunaga's Ambition 2, then definitly more.

$5 is what I usually my limit (espessially at garage sales) for any NES or SNES games. If it's a game that I really want, I may pay $6 or $7, but probably not. I usually don't pay more than $10 for any boxed N64 game. However, that depends on the game. There is a minty complete Banjo Tooie at a store near my house for $30. I want to pick it up... but I just can't fathom spending that much money on it. N64 games at garage sales (from what I have seen) go very cheap, I'm not sure why.
I guess people think NES and SNES are 'classic' so they think they are worth more. But N64 is old, but not too old to be a 'vintage' games. I don't know.

Same story here in New Brunswick, Canada. Although some of the more popular (and slightly harder to find in the wild) games such as Mega Man 2 or River City Ransom often go for $20
It's not right, but it's either that or eBay.

I just met my my limit yesterday afternoon. I had just been released from a weeks stay at the hospital (so mabey was still a little F_ed up from painkillers & such) and I paid $14.99 for Pacmania-NES. I usully cant bring myself to spend more than $6-7 on an NES game on a bad day.
...Pacmania is pretty fun so I dont feel bad adout it.

$3-$5 is usually my limit on unboxed stuff, but I seldom buy unboxed. The only reason I would go higher is for something with nostalgic value. For common boxes, I generally spend around $5-$10.

Either that or the old people with NES and SNES systems are so out of the loop that they think the system and games are still worth a good chunk what they were brand new. People selling N64 systems and games are usually still buying games for themselves or their kids, so they realize that games lose a ton of their value as they get older.

That's not bad at all, I've never seen it for less than $30.
I will go up to $5 for an NES game I don't have, but it has to be complete. Same with the SNES, but being complete isn't that important. I guess I would be in the same range for Genny games, but I haven't bought one in a long time.

For me it depends on rarity,if it's boxed or not and so on,for a common cart only i would say $3,but here they are like beginning from $5 or more.

I can say with confidence that I've determined my SNES common price to be $4. But I don't buy altogether bad commons for the sake of collecting, either.
As for NES, $2 seems about right. I like getting NES games as throw-ins, also. Flea markets can be fun :).

Oh, I forgot to mention: Sports games are the exception! I expect these to be $1 across the board... and I still don't buy them.
