Here's the deal. I will have access to wireless internet in the apartment I will be moving into. I dont know what "type" for sure. I hardly know anything about Wi-Fi. What I want to do is be able to access this wireless internet are run my Xbox, computer, roommates computer, etc. off it. But I dont want to buy many separate devices for everyting. I would like something that would access the wireless internet and allow me to plug many ethernet cables into it, and run all the devices through it.

Im not sure if this is the right place to ask.

Any linksys wireless router will do. You hafta plug your internet into it then it broadcasts it out.

If its wifi set up like a coffe shop you'll need these

An access point.

A router sends it out

An access point recieves it.

Will an "access point" perform the function of the "wireless receiver" in this image?

Ok, it seems that most if not all wireless adapters are for single devices only. One per computer. If they made an adapter for multiple devices, or if there was a way to share the internet connection of a computer (There is a way, but I get a strange error when I attempt), then I would be all set. I think they sell wireless adapters for the Xbox, but I only have Xbox live until November so I dont want to spend the money.

I am aware of that, but I would still need an internet connection.

I moved to wireless about a week ago.

The way I have it set up is..

I have cable modem at the moment, and when we move house will have ADSL modem.

So I have the modem part.

I have 2 pcs and game console.

I have a Linksys 614+ (very cheap and good)
It's a router and the cable modem just plugs into it, works on cable or ADSL.

This transmits the wireless signal to:

PC1
PC2
Xbox

PC1 and PC2 just have a cheap PCI wireless card in each.

Xbox I have a "Linksys Wireless B Game Adapter" - wasnt cheap but apparently one of the only ways to get gaming with an Xbox or a device like that which isnt a PC style thing.

Hope this helps!

Yep, I am aware of the game adapters. Now if only they sold one at a marginally reasonable price, I would consider getting one. As it stands I am trying to configure Windows ICS.
