You might have seen the huge NES lot on Ebay lately. Turns out that Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/) bought the whole collection and are going to give it away under PAX :)
Wonder how much they bought it for.

Jesus tapdancing Christ. I wonder what the feeling would be like to just purchase everything like that. All those years so many of us have spent, hunting, browsing, all the time and money....and they did it in like a half hour with money they got from making an offensive comic strip. Those guys are (and are still) my heroes

I can't believe there wasn't a single picture of the lot on ebay, when he/she had pictures of other games they had listed.

It's funny because this PAX location (The Meydenbaur Center in Bellevue, WA)... is less than .3 miles away from where I live. I should just waltz over there when they're having it and take a leak. LOL

Wow, a little over 10 grand for mostly loose carts (some with manual) and no Panesians?
I mean, the Miracle pianos are nice, but I think they overpaid just a wee bit. I'm sure someone will like it, though.
Funny the auction mentioned Mike Etler's rarity list. I just saw him last weekend. LOL

Remember... these guys are heavily involved in children's charities. They've given away quite a lot over the past few years. It's a shame that people only think of them as a comic strip producer - they're really a shining foundation in the gaming community.

Anyone notice that the reserve still wasn't met on the auction?

My guess is that the seller had a similar charitable purpose in mind as well. You know, not all of the world are greedy fuckheads. If Penny Arcade were planning a charity drive and didn't make the reserve on my auction I'd still part with it if the offer was a fair one.
Here's an example of Penny Arcade's generosity beyond their free website:

I'm still trying to figure the whole thing out. I read about this last night and went to their website, but all it said was that during PAX they would have an Omegathon (some super contest of gaming skill with a secret unannounced game) and that the winner would receive AN INCREDIBLE PRIZE. They don't actually state that the prize is this auction lot though, and their schedule for PAX doesn't even say when exactly this Omegathon takes place or how one would even enter into it, let alone the rules.

I think it's more likely that whoever wins will have absolutely no interest in old games and will sell them for cash or something.
I thought about going last year, but I can't stand the comic strip or its psycho fans. None of the events at the place really interested me either. I would've gone just for the contest, but it's a gaming competition consisting mostly of games I never played. I don't think a single one of the games they played last year was from any previous generation of consoles. It was all Halo, DDR, Mario Kart: Double Dash, etc. My boyfriend and I would've had no chance of winning, and I'm sure the same goes for this year.
Now if it was an NES-only competition to win the collection this year, THAT would rock. However, fat chance of that happening.
Actually the game played for the final round last year was Pong. They mention giving away the nes games on the front page news that was put up wed.

I guess they were trying to shock the people who were competing. The final game is a secret until the competition, so that's why I never found out about that one.
