I cannot believe the quality of these screenshots. Have backgrounds ever had it so good? Apparently, these are genuine, real-time screenshots of part of a cityscape in the latest installament of the popular Gotham series, due out on the Xbox 360. (edit: they might just be examples of the engine).

I'm seriously stunned. Although you can comfortably tell these aren't real pictures (well, I can)... this is stunningly realistic!

Thoughts? I for one have misjudged the next generation somewhat. This is out of this world.

I'd wait until we see something in-game before getting too excited.

What makes you so sure that these are not real pics? I am not convinced. Being a HUGE PGR fan, I would love to see this kind of detail in the next PGR game but I just cant believe it...yet.

I think they need to tighten up the graphics a little on level 3.

I beleive that these could be real. Unlike Sony, MS has been fairly honest about the next-gen launch titles. In fact they've even admitted that most first generation games won't even use the total system power, only using one of the cores, simply because developers haven't done a lot of multi thread and multi core processing before.

I can't tell that first pic is a game at all. The second is only somewhat obvious because the blurry texture on the bottom left building (with the grafitti).

There are reasonably low resolution textures in the first shot, too. And for me, the ladders are a dead giveaway!

Aww hurry up, Boss is comin' ROFL

I can quote it word for word, I even noticed when they dubbed over the woman's voice to say something different.

And as for the pics above, HOLY FUCK is what I shouted when I seen them. Let's hope they are in game, cause that's pretty damn sweet.

okiee update, it's real!

some to read while new pic loads:

To the amazement of some, the screenshot in question was indeed an in-game capture, as proven by the wireframe model released in this week's Studio Update. "This is how PGR3's artwork looks right now. On actual 360 hardware."

To futher silence critics, who might suggest last week's screenshot was a one-off, the web team posted a new screenshot of a different building containing even more detail. (right)

"Yes, it is possible to get all areas of the game that need it up to this level of detail - that’s what you get for 2 years work with up to 35 artists here at Bizarre, plus additional help from outsourcing companies!"

You can check out high resolution versions of the original in-game and wireframe screenshots on the Bizarre site, but to cement the point, we have created these two composites showing the in-game detail with the underlying polygons:

This makes me wonder about that possible GTA4 pic. Cool X_x
