Any guesses to where GTA 4 will be set anyways?

They've gone through the three locations of the very first game (Liberty City / Vice City / San Andreas) so whre are they going to set the next one?

My guess would be they will set it in London in 1969. I know that there has been a slew of London crime sims lately (Can we call them that?) - So would they really tread ground that has already been covered many times?

Although, to my knowledge, non have had a 60's mod as the main "Star" which I think could make for interesting gameplay. The in-game music would also be quite interesting too!

It would be nice to see some 60's based missions. Just think - An Italian Job meets Austin Powers II scenario! Lol!

Another great idea would be to have a GTA style game set in Chicago in the 30's. Drive-by's and mobsters would make a great "Crime sim" game!

There was a London 1969 expansion for the original GTA. Highly doubt that GTA 4 will go off that far on a tangent. Remember, the British thing has been done by the Getaway series, despite it not being set in the past.

There is a game that fits your description (except for the drive-by's). It's called Mafia and it's fun for a while but has boring missions.

I hope Rockstar does go with the Chicago/1930's idea, so we don't have to play Mafia to get our 1930's mob fix :P .

Maybe they will skip the GTA London thing (As it's already been done), and start to recreate GTA II. No wthis would be interesting, as GTA II had some really cool gangs in it, and some great missions!

I doubt very much that they have quite finished milking old ideas though. I don't think we will see a truly original GTA game for some while - At least, not until they have milked every avenue from their older PSone games...

I think that we may have seen the last of the GTA series on the current consoles. The next will be on the PSP, and I reckon the successor to that will be on PS3 / Xbox 360

Wouldn't GTA4 be Grand Theft Auto: Vice City? And GTA5 is San Andreas? Wouldn't we be waiting for GTA6?

unless the next gta's name IS Grand Theft Auto IV...

It's official.

Rockstar can't count.

They should take lessons from Square who can count up to 12 with only one mistake.

If you're going to split hairs, then no, you are wrong.

We had: GTA - PSone
GTA: London 1969 (Mission disc) - PSone
GTA II - PSone
GTA III - PS2
GTA: London 1969 (Rereleased as a standalone game)
GTA Vice City - PS2
GTA San Andreas - PS2 / Xbox

Don't forget there was also the GTA Collection on the PSone, and the double pack on the PS2 and Xbox comprising of GTA III and Vice City

As GTA: London 1969 was released as a standalone game in it's own right, there have technically been six games. The next one should technically be classed as GTA 7

I'd say it's either going to be an entirely fictional city (the other 3 were based off real cities), or it could be one of themajor US cities they haven't done:

Chicago or Seattle.

I think it would be cool if the new game was done up like the film Fargo. Complete with wood chipper and everything.

Just after GTA:SA was released it was rumoured that the next major gta title (not GTA LCS) could be set in Europe.

That would be nice.

I really can't stand the thought of doing a GTA in London. I firmly beleive that one of the greatest aspects of the GTA series is making fun of American culture.

I'd really like to see a GTA USA - spanning the entire US - yeah I know that would be multiple DVDs and a hell of a long development time to boot (no pun intended). We'll have to wait until the next medium (system) for some massive storage capacity to pull of such a feat.

It's really tough to say where I would like to see the next GTA done. I'm thoroughly satisified with Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas. I'd love to see a future version, set in a BladeRunner style environment, but I know it won't happen. And though I'd love to see that kind of setting, I'm actually not quite sure of how well the GTA style of play would do with that sort of environment - it might enhance it and open new possibilities - but it will also take something away from GTA games and that's poking fun at a certian period in time in the US. Setting it in the future would also take away the 'music of that era' that the game would contain - sure you could base it in the future and have all electronic music (which is my main love and forte) but I don't know how much that would do for the GTA series as a whole.

It has been reported that Rockstar are saying that this picture is indeed a fake. Oh well.

Hmmm, a futuristic thug sim. Could be interesting... Could be a bit of a problem stealing flying cars though.

I also like the way they mock the American culture, but they did do such a good job of doing GTA London. The fact that it was also mocking the past was a nice touch too.

I could also imagine a GTA: Glasgow. All the crime and drugs that is associated with Glasgow would be a good setting for this sort of game.

I also liked the fake GTA: West Belfast pic that was doing the rounds a while ago. Imagine having to deal with IRA terrorists whilst you are nicking some leprechaun's horse & cart...

The reason its GTA 4 is because 3, Vice City, and San Andreas is one game. In GTA 1, there was one city (If I remember right...) and GTA 2 had Liberty, Vice, and San Andreas. Plus, they all used the same engine, only slightly added to each game. So, GTA 4.

You have it reversed. GTA1 had Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas. GTA2 takes place in one city (Liberty?) in 2025.

How about GTA meets Shadow Run for the next instalment. I think Rockstar could pull this off beutifully.

Ah man... That's gonna be freaking sweet! GTA - Tokyo. Anyways, for those of you who didn't know, Rockstar registered some domains such as GTA - Bogota and GTA - Tokyo. They registered some more, but I forgot most of 'em. You can find 'em over at IGN.

Those were just registered as smokescreens to fool people while they were developing GTA SA.

It would be cool to have one in Tokyo or Hong Kong. Or maybe you could fly between the 2...

You could have characters like Wuzi and Asuka from the other games making an appearance.

But I've heard the new game on the next-gen consoles is not supposed to be like the others... probably moving more towards a MMORPG style of play.
