I'm lucky enough to have a company who made the July 4th weekend a FOUR DAY weekend, so I've had some time to catch up with things that I've been meaning to do for weeks.

I spent a few hours today learning and loading my PSP up with emulation goodies, and a few more minutes snapping a few photos here and there as I played. Thought you might like to see.

I can do better pics, maybe later in the weekend.

I love this stuff. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!, Air Zonk, and Comix Zone on my PSP all in a single day? Heaven.

i also played rbi baseball with 2005 rosters. too bad no white sox though. i got smoked 11-1 and the game ended with the slaughter rule in the 2nd. LOL i dont remember that game being so tough.

As soon as the psp hits $100, if SNK emulation is 100% on there, I'll sooo be getting a PSPNeo :D

The screenshot of SMB3 made ME feel all warm and fuzzy. The GBA version disappointed me to no end. I long for a portable version of the original. Flaws and all. Same with SMB2.

Damn them. Why haven't they broken 1.51 yet? And why the hell did I upgrade my firmware while half asleep??

Butta, I know we aren't supposed to post ROM links here but where the hell did you get that one from?!? I'd love to play RBI (and any other old sports games) with updated rosters.

Figured I'd come out of that with merely a passing interest. Then I got to the end... You just HAD to throw Devil's Crush on there, didn't you?

Reading this thread, I'm REALLY surprised that so many PSP owners haven't tried the emulators yet. Right now I'm hooked on playing Ultima: Exodus on the NES emulator. The TG-16 emu is spot on as well.

Hopefully Joe's pics will encourage more people to get with the program.

And I think that playing the emus in standard mode instead of full screen looks a lot better. The NES emu is a pixel-by-pixel emulation if you don't mess with the screen size, isnt it?

I've been playing all the emulators full screen and they look exactly the same to me. Haven't noticed any kind of slowdown either. If there is any difference between the two, I can't see it.

(BTW, thanks for the link Butta)

That's because all the sites I've been to gave me the impression if you have version 1.50 or higher, nothing will work. If that's wrong, send me to the right site that lets me download a TG emulator to my 512mb memory stick and I'm on it like a hornet.

EDIT: Uhh, nevermind. After searching around a bit, I found KExploit and got it up and going, and now I'm playing Mega Man 2 on my PSP. Freaking sweet! This makes me glad I got my PSP the week of launch, otherwise I'd probably have a version later than 1.5 that there's no hack for. W00T!

Been enjoying the delights of a few NES games (need to download more) and PC Engine, plus a few SNES games. Definitely getting more use out of the PSP now :P

why no full screen though?

I haven't really tinkered, I just *played*

Is this an option within each emulator's menu or do I need to do something before loading the emulator itself?

Most emulators you can change the aspect ratio. A lot of the time though I've been finding the default screen ratio to be the best. Stretching things looks weird...

I've been streching out to wide screen and after playing for 2-3 minutes you really get used to it. Especially Mega Man games, they hardly look different at all.

I've been playing NES on my PSP like man, been putting in lots of time beating (with save states :embarrassed: ) games that I never have, such as all the Mega Man Games, I always sucked at those. The first one is still a pain in the ass.

There isn't any slowdown on the NES/GB/TG16 emulators when playing at full screen. It's kind of noticeable on the Genesis and SNES ones though.

To change it on the NES one, you gotta hit the left shoulder button to bring up the emu options menu and change it under Graphics Configuration. You can set it to fill the entire PSP screen but I like to keep mine at x1.5 Cropped so the image doesn't look distorted and stretched out.

The TG-16 emu is spot on as well.

Is it really? You know even on the PC only Magic Engine comes close... so if this is really true, I am going to be one happy sob. :D But I fear it's probably not..

Try out the intro to Legendary Axe II and see if the lightning comes out ok. Or try Military Madness and go to a larger stage (password: HALLEY or PASCAL or something like that and see if you're able to scroll around). If so, heck that's good enough for me even if it does have small sound issues :D

Now you guys know why some of us bought GP32s two or three years ago. :)

Yeah I missed the boat on GamePark back then, but now PSP has shown me what I've been missing. Only thing is... I searched my extensive collection of "games" and found to my horror and surprise I didn't have any for TG/PCE despite having an emulator for it. Weird. Can anybody point me in the right direction to find some? Danke.

Awww come on MMF! You should know exactly where to look to find a 100% complete PCEngine/Tg16 rom selection :P ;)

Except the PSP can do it even better. ;)

Give it time and I'm sure you'll be able to play anything up to the GBA and PS1 on the PSP.

That's one reason I did'nt mind getting a PSP when they came out. Good games are coming out, the ability to play videos and music on the memory card, the UMD movies, and now emulation. It's all worth it. :)

Not yet it can't, although I can only assume it will eventually given that it's much newer and much faster technology. Using that logic, no one should buy a PSP now for emulation because in 2-3 years, something newer and faster will come along and do it even better. Right?

SoulBlazer

That depends -- do you just want the PSP for emulation?

It would be stupid to get a PSP just for that, I agree.

But if you bought the PSP for the things it was designed to do -- play games, movies, music, and videos -- then emulation (and web browsing) is a bonus.

The PSP is a more powerfull system then the GP32, so it's only a matter of time before the hackers figure out how to be able to use that power to make a 'better' emulator. Not one that can play a NES game better, but has more options, uses the full screen, is easier to use, etc.

That's the point I was trying to make. :)
