View Full Version : Weird Space Invaders compulsion
I actually stink at Space Invaders... can clear the first screen, but not much further. But for some reason, I feel a need to acquire the game for every system I own. The list includes 2600, ColecoVision, Famicom, PC Engine, and SNES. It has to do with Space Invaders' special place in gaming hsitory, sorta like I'm honoring it some way. Does anyone else experience this with a game? I know lots of people collect a series that span multiple systems, such as Mega Man, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, etc. But does anyone else collect the same game for multiple systems?

I bought every version of Mr. Driller because I felt the need to honor the broken arcade machine that gave me tons of free play and enjoyment when I was away on vacation one year.
So I got the ps1, dreamcast, gbc versions of Mr Driller 1, and then the gba version of Mr Driller 2 (japanese... paid $60)
You just reminded me, I should have gotten the wonderswan version too! I don't even want a wonderswan though, who knows if there's anything good on that thing that I could understand in the first place.
But seriously, Space Invaders is an awesome game, and it's fun even if you suck at it... so your collection of SI is at least fun!

Space Invaders, Ms. Pac Man, and Tetris are staples I like to have on every system.

I never was much on Space Invaders, and I'm actually not too bad at it. For me I like to have Ms. Pac-Man, Qix(on the systems that have it) and Tetris for all my systems.

You don't have a PSX or a PS2? I have a boxed Space Invaders for the PC as well.
I'm sure you already know about the ultimate Space Invaders shrine website.

I've jsut started to grow on Pac-man... alot. Until recently, I could never get much further than stage 3. But now I've got a pattern down and can make it all the way to 12+. As a result, I now find myself willing to collect it for every system I own.
So far I've ony got Tengen Pac-man for the NES, Pac-man for the NGPC, Pac-man for the GB, and Pac-man in the anniversary collections for GBA and GCN.

I have every release of the Bust-A-Move games for every system. I love that game.

Lol, yup. I'll pick up games that I think are "Best of the History of Gaming" quality and buy good ports for any system I know of, though my personal collecting style has me buying copies less often than totally new games.

Mine is Dragon's Lair. I don't even really like the game that much. I only beat it once or twice, but I must track it down for every system I own. Not sure why, but it probably has something to do with Daphnie.

Space Invaders? Aside from the rather hard to get Virtual Boy version, you'll be wanting the DS version that's just come out too ;)

I did the same thing with a Space Invaders arcade cabinet. I was never good at the game, and I never enjoyed playing it THAT much, but the only reason I bought it (I guess) was because of its place in history. However, I eventually sold it for a game that I would want to play.
I don't feel the need to have every space invader game across every console, but I do something similar to that with another type of game. Mario games. I'm not sure what it is, but I have a compulsion to own every game that Mario is in. This even includes games where he can be seen, but not played (Mike Tyson's Punch Out (NES), Tennis (gameboy), etc...)
