View Full Version : TOP 20 VIDEOGAME MSG BOARDS
I searched for this and couldn't find anything. I was wondering what you guys thought were the best Videogame messageboards. I post on Atari Age and the G4 forums every once in a while but DP is my main hang out. Can't wait to hear what y'all have to say. Happy 4th to everyone too.

Oh, best.... oops.
The Neo Geo forums are decent, but only if you know what you're doing. I never post there though.
IGNs are useless.
Cheap Ass Gamer is probably my second fave beyond here. Very knowledgeable, and great prices.

DP is really the only one I post/read all the time. I do use the N-Gage forums every once and awhile since its hard to find anyone interested in the N-Gage anywhere else. Oh and the shmups.com forum is great for that genre. i use them quite often for information. but all around gaming nothing really beats DP from what i've found

I pretty much only like this one and Atari Age. Sega-16 has nice forums, just not enough people on there.

DP and cgcc are the only 2 that I visit (anymore... I used to visit AtariAge, but it was just too much to keep up on. Plus, I'm not big into Atari anyways.... Although it did offer many other things other than Atari.)
I like both DP and cgcc for different and similar reasons.
Here on DP, there is so much information, and so many people. I can literally find anything that I want in the Buy/Sell forum.
Cgcc is a really small community. There are only about 500 members, and only about 30 of us contribute alot.
Its almost like living in the country, but going to the city alot. I'm very close with the people on cgcc, but then I come here, and I'm just another average Joe.

The regular Classicgaming.com Forums were decent, a few years ago; there were only about 5 of us in there but it gave it a very nice, close feeling...actually, I need to visit again sometime. Then there's the CV Dungeon, there's only about 15 of us (tops) THERE...(it seems that way, anyhow; I'm counting by most notable posters, just mentally guessing).
But really DP is one of the greatest; I know there are a lot of other great forums, and I don't post at too many of the really respected sites (AA seems to be, same with the SG1000.emucamp or whatever).

I really don't visit many Game boards based on gaming besides here and hardcoregaming (Cheap Ass I just look for the sales really)
Although I haven't checked it out too much , I really seem to like RFGeneration alot.

I really got to post at the Castlevania Dungeon again. I can't seem to find much of anything worth replying too... It's really just a shell of its former self, and contrary to what most would believe I think, it has nothing to do with the fact that the old farts like myself have drifted to the Inverted side of things (meh... Ed is the only person here that's going to understand this paragraph :P ).
And I've said it before and I'll say it again, GameFAQs has some GREAT forums if you know where to look. If you just go to the main social boards and system boards and say "yep, this sucks", well of course you're not going to find anything good. That's the equivalent of downloading a ROM of a well-hated game just to see how bad it is, playing it for 3 minutes, and saying "Yeah, this does suck". That's just not enough effort to give it a fair chance. Most of the best boards there are game-specific boards, so I guess if you just want a general gaming board and don't feel strongly about any game in particular, then you're out of luck. However, I pity any gamer who isn't passionate about at least one game or series. :P The best boards are the import boards, I think, since they attract an older crowd.

Mainly RFGeneration (www.rfgeneration.com) and Digital Press.
I also occasionally check out some of the smaller NES forums such as NES Forums (http://s8.invisionfree.com/nesforums) and NES Files Forums (http://forums.nesfiles.com/).

I used to check in at G4 once in awhile, though I rarely posted in it myself. I have Cheap Ass Gamer bookmarked but only to check for deals once in awhile land probably haven't even checked in there in awhile. I had my own but only a few people posted there off and on and I finally gave up on it and deleted my bookmark. Thus, this is really the only one I use anymore...frankly, it's all the gaming conversation I need.
I do frequent another dozen or so board but they're not gaming boards. :eek 2: Yes, I do have a life outside of gaming LOL

Another one I just thought of which I used to use a lot was a board dedicated solely to the Atari Jaguar. I doin't even recall what it's official title was. I wonder if I can find it? Probably, you can find anything on the net these days if you know where or how to look...

This is my main hangout, and occassionaly when I am into a specific game and want info or have questions I go to the game specific boards at GameFAQs.
I used to me a Admin on www.Gamerankings.com back when the forum first opened to when it was 2 years old, it was a fun time, I had the most posts out of everyone on there, and the community was very cool, I made alot of friends and we actualy worked on websites together and even had clans (groups of members into similar interests) on there.
But I became addicted to Diablo2 and eventualy lost my time for the site (I did reviews, editing, everything), so unfortunately I no longer posted. I look at the forum today and it is a mess!
Glad I found DP, not an overly large population (IGN?) and not too small. People are helpful, informative, this is my fix for gaming knowledge!
I want to find a good secondary forum for when there is nothing to post on this forum.

Other game boards I usually lurk around are the G4 forums, shmups forum, click-stick, and the classicgaming.com forum. I really don't do to much posting. I think I post the most here. Oh I recently started to browse the neo-geo.com forums only cause I had recently got an AES.

I began using online messageboards here at DP, and I have lurked in the darkness, always reading, but rarely posting.
I started to look at CGCC in the past year, mainly cause its a smaller community, with people who like to say "eh" a lot
I usually frequent only one or the other at any time, depending on what mood I am in and whatnot

I'm proud to say DP has been my main message board for 2-3 years now (and hopefully many more to come). Other videogame boards I visit:
hardcoregaming (just started)
Twin Galaxies (I love to see what kinds of hardcore records people set)
Shmups! (only when I'm currently playing one)
WanganRunner
07-07-2005, 09:14 AM
The only ones that I visit every day are DP and ASSEMBlergames.
IGN is fun when something big is going on, like the Japanese GT4 launch or Nintendo's "Thursdayton" conspiracy-theory nonsense at this year's E3. The place just goes nuts. It's not serious discussion, but it's fun to read.

I visit CGCC (Hey Jumpy!), CAG and DP at least twice a day. Although I seem to contribute a lot more to the other two forums than I do here, I really post only sporadically.
I guess that, unless I can make a valid contribution to a thread, I really don't see the point in getting that +1.
Outside of games, I live on the DVDTalk forum, Death Valley Driver pro-graps forum and find my Canadian gaming deals on the RedFlagDeals.ca forum.
For someone who doesn't post all that much, I'm quite the active lurker!

Well, DP is one. hardcoregaming.org is another.
I also started to hang around rfgeneration.com as well.
Sega-16 has nice forums, just not enough people on there.
Thanks for the kind words! I appreciate it. :)
We just moved to a better forum, and are slowly recuperating our user base. As time goes by, I think more people will show up. The regulars are very enthusiastic and friendly when it comes to discussing the Genesis and its add-ons, so I recommend you stop by!
I hang out at Sega-16, DP, and The Next Level, as well as Got-Next.
