Don't laugh... :P I used to play the NES Monopoly and Genesis version of Risk all the time. I was wondering what you guys thought were the best console versions of these two games were?

Not laughing. I've never played the NES or SNES versions of Monopoloy or Risk. Actually I've been playing a lot of Monopoly lately on both Genesis and SMS. Of the two I'd say I like the Genny version better because the menu options are more simply laid out, and I like the way the AI presents itself. In fairness I should say I've only been playing the SMS version on my Game Gear and it would probably look better on a regular screen.

I've played a little bit of Risk on Genesis as well, but I don't really understand the board game itself so it's hard for me to get into the computer version.

Can't help with Monopoly, but I'm a Risk fanatic;

The PS1 version is by far the best.

The PS2 version, by contrast, is the worst. The genny version is better.

I'm very very fond of the GBC Monopoly, to be honest. I've always found it to be the maximum amount of game with the minimum amount of BS - no fancy animations showing the wheelbarrow strolling to St. James Place, it just gets on with it. It doesn't have many alternate rules options, and the AI is iffy at times, but that I can live with - it still leaves me, as often as not, in a state that I would regard as "pwned."

My favorite version of monopoly is still the one that came with my windows 95 pc. Classic.

As for Risk, I don't play it on consoles. Only h4rdc0r3 games with mass snacks and like 6 players can suite me! :rocker:

i was always wondering what the best version of this game was (incl. PC)... as it is one of my all-time favourites

I've recently really been really into console Monopoly. The NES version is the best, hands down, if you want to play vs CPU.

You can speed up through most of their move and really make the game fly along. The trade system works very very quickly and the CPU stays very consistant on trading.

Worst version? GBA version; by a LONG shot.

It takes 3-5 minutes to go through a single 4 player round.

This seems like a good place to ask this...

Has anyone tried Monopoly Party on current consoles? If so, how is it?

I am suprised no one mentioned this game. Monopoly Party for the NGC is the best console monopoly game out there. The controls are simple, there are four boards to choose from, and you can customize the rules as well as skip through the animations quickly. My gf and I play this all the time.

THE WORST is the SNES version, It's so damn easy to manipulate the AI to do anything you want.

I like the PC version of Monopoly. The only console Monopoly I tried was the one on the Nintendo 64.

It's easy to do this on the NES version of Monopoly as well. Turn your player into computer, and then you can choose any other player to turn into human. Make a trade with your former self, asking nothing in return. Sell houses and hotels, do whatever else you want. Then, turn that player back to computer and switch your player back to human. Makes it incredibly easy to get Boardwalk and Park Place on the cheap.

the ONLY I played is NES... I think it's odd that if the other player doesn't buy the property they land on then someone else can in that game...

The PS Monopoly must have been at least somewhat OK< because it did go Platinum.

Still, why would anyone want to play something that can be done just as well [and a lot more fun] on a real board?

The Genesis version is pretty good and can be found for a buck or two. We got a PC version later that just seemed to have too much going on in comparison and stuck with the Genny version.

The only version I could get into was the SMS version. I could be biased though. I lovem SMS. :)

I really like the NES version, especially the animations, although as has been stated, you can skip through them. The music is pretty good too-well, it suits my bizarre tastes :) I like how when you don't buy a property it is auctioned-it really speeds up the game. I wish there was a way to turn it off though, for a 4 human player game.

With Clue and Monopoly I'd have to say the SNES versions kick ass... I had the PC version of Monopoly for a little while but couldn't really get into it... even though from what I remember there are enough tuning files to recreate any live opponent you've ever faced...

SNES was easy enough to start, and to whoever slammed it for being easy to cheat in, the answer is obvious: Don't. Have some self control. You can't fault a game for allowing you to cheat - that's like saying "DOOM sucked, all you had to do was type "IDDQD" and "IDKFA" and you could go do anything you wanted".

If you can't resist the temptation to cheat, it shows you're not a very good gamer.

Never liked Risk on any system, until I got Agressoin (risk clone) for my Palm. If you've got one I'd definitely check it out.

You know, the best people to play Monopoly with are the ones who obsess about getting Boardwalk and Park Place. If you get one of those properties, you can sell it to 'em for the moon. The best territory is really the stretch between Jail and Free Parking. If you get the Oranges and the Railroads, you'll own the game.

I've never seen a computer Monopoly game that allows crazy custom trading between players. You can make up just about anything with the board game, as long as everyone consents. But that's if you want to play Republican Monopoly.

The one game I wish would be made into a videogame was the Mad Magazine board game. Now that one was a classic! Now flap your arms around and cluck like a chicken to lose $500.

Could you go into detail about *why* the PS1 version of Risk is the best, and the PS2 version is the worst?

Ha! I say the same thing the opposite way: why drag all of those "parts" out when you can just press the "on" button? :P

Someone mentioned earlier that Monopoly Party on GCN was the best... is it better than or any different than Monopoly Party released on PS2 or Xbox? Because I think I got the Xbox version in a recent trade and haven't opened it yet.

I haven't played any other versions of console Monopoly so this isn't a real informed opinion but- I love the genesis Monopoly. (:

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Nintendo 64 version of Monopoly yet. Well, maybe I'm NOT surprised as it sold like 26 copies.

It's much better than any version than I've ever played (including the PSone version) and it has its own looks and style that are different form any other version I've played. The rules are very customizable except you can't make yourself super-rich and your opponents broke as hell. Fair, in a word.

I went through a Monopoly kick for awhile... I'd agree that the SNES version is WAY too easy (give yourself major $$$ and leave your opponents with $300.) The Gameboy version is pretty good for a portable (I'm talking the B & W version here.)

That's part of the OFFICIAL game rules.

By the way, I originally bought a SMS just because it had Monopoly available for it.

NES Monopoly owns! It was really well done and a pleasure to play. And the AI isn't all that bad!
