Go ahead. If you want to waste your time, go right ahead.
HAHAHAHA
um, no. Heck's plans just DON'T WORK.

IIRC, If you build the chroma/luma, and tie em together, I THINK that gives composite. Not sure, as I did S Video on mine.

It worked for me...are you sure you followed the instructions correctly?

Yes, tying chroma and luma together gives composite. Go either to Heckendorn's site, or to the FAQ that Kamino posted the link to. They both give detailed instructions on modding your VCS for composite video, and they are fairly easy and straightforward.

here's some various values people were talking about on the atariage site using resistors only instead of resistors and potentiometers. (the pins obviously aren't correct on all the bottom ones, but that's the way they were posted. you can mess around and figure out what goes where.)
http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72645
"680ohm on pin 5
220Ohm on pin 7
1k Ohm on pin 8"
"i used 1.5K ohm in pin 8 and 2 220ohm in pins 7 and 5
another combination is p5 22 ohm, p7 and p7 220 ohm
and another is and 220 ohm, 22 ohm and 1500 ohm"
i personally did the benheck mod myself and it worked wonderfully. real easy to do. resistors only would be even easier though.

for svideo to composite, you put one of the lines through a 470uF cap into the other, i always forget which..
just tieing them together adds up the current from each and ultimately isnt good for your tv.. or thats what makes sense to me.. i use the cap from my pc svideo out, and it works wonderfully.
ill mess around with these mods in the next week or so
thanks
