According to this (http://www.pressthebuttons.com/2005/07/nintendo_plans_.html) post, Nintendo are planning to serve up extra game content (AKA expansion packs) in the form of GameBoy Advance cartridges that are used simultaneously with the original DS cart.

If it proves true, then it is pretty cool. Fingers crossed they use this feature well, and that it isn't this generation's "Lock-on" technology ;)

Maybe we'll get another effort like the e-reader from them. That would be sweet. It could scan cards and we could play them. They could release the next generation of games on cards. Man it'll be neat............NOT!!!!!!!!!! All I can say is buyer beware. I love the big N, but they need to revitalize for the sake of US! GAME PLAYERS/COLLECTORS!

Lol.

Yeah, the card idea was pretty horrible. This sounds cool, and it's a cool way to use gba carts in conjuction with the system. Hopefully it comes together well.

this probably one of the major reasons they made the DS boxes with GBA slot in it. this can be quite cool. imagine more content for something like animal crossing for the ds heheh

I hope that this would be possible and still remain cost effective for them. If it costs too much to produce these 'expansion paks' then only Nintendo will do it, and it will only be a few.

Sounds neat. But, so did the e-Reader.

I couldn't have said it better LOL

How many times do people have to be ripped off before they figure it out?

I read somewhere that the first add-on cart is going to be a set of songs for Band Brothers (in Japan of course).

I bet that they'll also use this for things like tilt sensors or a solar sensor (as in Boktai). And the possibilities for ripping off people with Pokemon expansions... oh my! LOL

Perhaps you read the link from my post which started this entire topic? @_@

Whoops, I missed that. Sorry. Believe it or not, I read it elsewhere.

The ONLY expansion I can ask for on the DS is a firmware update (Can the DS have updated firmware?) that lets me use the damned Y and B buttons as the B and A buttons for the Game Boy Advance function. I cannot STRESS how painful and difficult it is to play a GBA game on the DS with the A and B buttons where they are. They're not anywhere near the same position! How the hell did Nintendo overlook this?

The B function should be up higher than the A function. I mean, for reference, compare Super Mario 64 DS's running and jumping with the Super Mario Advance run and jump. It is so comfortable to play SM64, but just thinking about Mario Advance makes me hand cramp up.

It makes me cry because it'd be perfect. Absolutely perfect if the buttons were in the right place. But there is no option whatsoever to change the button placement.

Hell, I would buy a SECOND DS the day Nintendo released a new model with GBA buttons in a more comfortable right place.

How do I contact Miyamoto? Should I bother emailing Nintendo?

Edit: Anyway, on topic. I would love to see these expansion packs if they are priced well. The article has really good ideas, like the extra tracks for Mario Kart. How about if they go one further and create a tool to create tracks, then allow transfer to that movie player SD card thingy and allow you to load tracks from it?

We'll see.

I have read that if you have Wario Ware Twisted in the GBA slot and try out the Table Hockey demo from E3 you have force feedback!

This sounds interesting. I already know some new DS games let you unlock things when certain GBA games are in the DS so expansion packs were always an option. The idea of extra songs for Band Brothers sounds like a good expansion pack but couldn't that have also been done from wireless download. Simply pay for what songs you want?

The firmware update should come via the wireless link over the internet and in pods in game stores.

I think this "expansion pack" idea is just one of the many features of the DS and won't be used too often. If Nintendo did it often, especially with multiple carts for a game that would just be annoying.

The rumble pack idea sounds good for certain games but hopefully not any touchscreen games.

Having Sonic Advance 3 GBA in the slot when playing Feel The Magic unlocked new hats for some characters...
