according to the British gaming magazine NGC, Capcom is working on a remake of the original Resident Evil for the DS. The only details as of right now are that the game will use the same camera perspective as Resident Evil 4 and the touchscreen will be used for attacks.

Because this news is breaking, new details will most likely emerge soon.

DS just keep getting better, I hope they can pull off some smooth 3D - but I reckon the game will be "dark" so my hopes are up.

jesus, we don't need another remake of re1, especially with worse graphics than re for gc. i dont' know how well that view will work inside a house with tight coridors.

Wait wait..RE1 again??

Is it going to be the PSX or a watered down Cube port?

First off, I dont want a portable survival horror game..it doesn't feel the same :(

I think that we don't need another port of re1 especially on the ds which wouldn't be able to handle it that well at all

it's a bad idea, i think but if it is true than we will see.

How many ports of RE1 will we still get.

I think I will wait till they announce versions for PSP, PS3, Revolution and Xbox 360. :p

Since RE1 is my fav, I am excired to hear this. But changing the camera might make for weird controls, especialy with the touch screen. Lets hope.

RE4 engine = gold.

This would be awesome, but we should wait and see if its true or not.

I think that is really nice news - but If I'm going to put in all the energy and time of playing this game, there better be a reason to do so, and not simply b/c of a new control scheme or new graphics engine.

I mean they did really make over A LOT of the mansion for the Cube remake of the game, what are they gonna add new rooms and story elements again? We don't need it!

I'm all for Capcom trying to bring survival horror to the handheld scene - granted that Resident Evil Gaiden was absolutely terrible - I'll give whatever the game will be a shot. If only for the reason that the DS can really pull off some great semi-surround sound on those speakers (probably one of the great advantages that the DS has over the PSP)

But seriously, if it's only a remake then I dont see the point to playing it - we need new games, enough with the dang rehash, especially of RE1.

It would be nice if they brought Resident Evil 1.5 to the DS!!

I think a RE2 remake would be much more interesting. Another RE1 remake is not necessary when the the Cube is excellent in my opinion... despite using the old engine. I can only see this as taking a step back.

Let's just hope sales of it tank so that the remake mania can come to a merciful end.

Of course it won't, but it's fun to hope :)

Are people stupid? RE4 engine? NO, not on the DS. People are talking about RE4 looking horrible on the PS2, but suddenly it's going to be great on the DS. I hope folks mean the RE4 system + touchscreen...

Narrow corridors are perfect for sub-GC hardware! Other than that, yeah, I don't suppose we need another REmake.

I...heck, this might be a game that makes me get a DS, seeing as how I haven't played RE (the original) yet, just have the Saturn import (Biohazard). We'll see.

Aye...we'll see.

I'd really like a remake of 2, though. Damnit all. That was the best of the old trillogy.

How about using the RE4 engine to make a NEW Resident Evil game that can utilize the DS better? Is that too much to ask? I can only play the same game for so long!

I'm never going to complain too much about getting another Resident Evil game, but doesn't this seem like just another trip to the well for Capcom? I don't need to be playing RE 9 now, but there is a lot more story they could be expanding on if they would start making new games. Enough with the REtreads already!

just cause I like to piss ppl off  RE2 is waaay overated in my opinion I hate that damn barren police station and walking around in the largely empty hallways at least the Mansion in RE1 had some type of character and atmosphere.

Give me a remake of NEMESIS anyday.

I don't see what everyone's deal is about a RE remake for the DS. If you don't like it you don't need to buy it, seems fairly simple to me. x_x As for me it sounds kinda' neat to be able to play RE 1 on the go. You know Capcom is gonna' throw in updates and extras to the package too.

Thats what I was looking for! :D

Either way, im pretty sure I will pick this up if the rumors are true. I loved the RE1, and I think it will be intresting to see what they do to the games controls using the DS layout.
