Howdy everyone,

It's good to be back on the game-collecting scene. I used to be a regular poster on rgvc about five years ago, but dropped off as I lost interest in video games. Needless to say, the bug is back, and it's bit hard.

I've lurked here for a while, but have finally registered. I need your help. (I look forward to re-joining the community, I'm sorry my first post is a shameless plea for help.) Here goes: I'm a big fan of rhythm and music games. Amplitude, Frequency, and Rez have inspired my collecting habit again, and I'd like to try to track down the games of this type that I've missed over the last few years.

If anyone can help me put together a checklist of current games that fall into this genre, it'd make my collecting much easier. I'm looking more for games that are played on normal controllers, rather than their own controllers, such as DDR, Drum Master, Samba De Amigo, and the like. I enjoy these games, too, but keeping around all of the special controllers really clogs up my (tiny) apartment. If you can help add in any that I'm missing, I'd appreciate it.

I have an xbox, dreamcast, gamecube, and ps2, but would also appreciate suggestions of notable games of this type for any other systems.

Here's what I've found so far:

Amplitude
Frequency
Gitaroo Man
Parappa the Rapper
Rez
Space Channel 5
Technic Beat

Thanks, everyone. It's good to be back. :)

Welcome back to the hobby -- I hope you find a good home here!

Just by glancing at your list I see you're missing Um Jammer Lammy and PaRappa 2.

Let's not forget VIP Ribbon. I'd like to find it someday, if only for novelty.

There's the DJ WARS and JUNG RHYTHM on SEGA Saturn. (JP imports only). I recently got both in but have yet to played it. Look for a writeup on both games however in the coming month or so over at IMPORT MANIA! in my obscure Saturn games thread.

Well it's weird, I found VIP Ribbon on auction. Anyone know it's value? It's PAL, of course.

Actually, it's "Vib" Ribbon. Unless it's got something to do with that Pamela Anderson game? X_x

Anyway, I paid $20.00 (USD) for the Japanese version about two or three years ago.

Don't forget Taiko Drum Master (Taiko no Tatsujin) with perhaps the coolest looking peripheral for a rhythm game, IMHO and of course pop'n music (import) which I have never played but needless to say looks really cool, especially in the arcade.

There's Unison for PS2. I didn't even realize that this game existed until I saw it at the local Goodwill last week. A *very* strange rhythm/reflex game from Tecmo. I haven't played it much yet but it's allot different than all the other music games I've played. Relies more on memorizing the beats/controller movements rather than just coping them like in Parappa or Amplitued.
