View Full Version : Good Multiplayer MAME Game?
I want to place some good four player games on my future MAME machine. What are some good four player games?

Lots of Beat 'em Ups.. Golden Axe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Simpsons... I think those really are the best kinds of 4 player games.
Gauntlet
The Simpsons
The Simpsons of course I should have thought of that one. I love that game. Thanks.
Please keep them comming.

You're going to wire up and use four sticks? I hope you have a pretty big control panel! Seriously, I'm kind of thinking I'm nuts for even having two sticks, since six buttons per each stick takes up a whopping lot of space and also means I'm always going to be standing a little bit "off center" when playing any games with it. Still it's worth the tradeoff to be able to have two player games of Joust and Mario Bros. on the fly with any visitors who drop in. :D

X-Men was good -- all those Konami beatemups...
Too bad you can't arrange that dual-screen 6-player X-Men setup. Or can you?

I know the poster asked for 4 player games, but since several people have thrown out Golden Axe (3 player) I'll throw out another one -- Rampage. That game is too much fun with three people.
Gauntlet/Simpsons/TMNT are the staples; those are the ones everyone will ask for so you'll have to have those.
There are also lots of newer games, like some of the football, basketball and hockey games that support four players at a time.

The 4 player version of Sunset Riders. Totally. And Xenophobe is great fun, though it only supports 3 players. Oh, and Sega's Quartet is often overlooked. Think of a futuristic side-scrolling Gauntlet.

Knights of the Round (3-player). Aliens vs. Predator is also a good one.
I would recommend making a swappable control-board if you're building a MAME cabinet. I can't remember where on the internet I saw it, but one guy put velcro strips to which he could affix different control boards - one with a trackball, one with two sticks, one with four, etc.
