The Mega Anser featured in a brief write up on Assembler's front page recently.

That wireless Mark III Telecom thing is very strange. Apparently it has a reset button on it? Don't the Japanese have to sit directly in front of their TVs already? Why would they need that? :D

Weird.

Well, the Telecom Pack lets you put some more space between you and the TV, so if there's a reset button on it that wouldn't be a problem. You could sit right on top of the thing and not know it (mmm, RF burns ;D ).

I have one of the Mega Jets...an interesting unit, wouldn't play with one regularly though.

I've seen one boxed. Granted, it WAS at the World of Coke in Atlanta, and behind glass, I still saw it. Probably the rarist system I've seen in real life.

Pretty much all of those are just early mockups of officially released products aren't they? (3-d goggles on the SMS, Genesis mockup, saturn mockups, etc..)

Although that mega-anser thing is just funny looking.

Poofta!

I was wondering that about the Mega Jet also. What IS that?

And what is that computer system? Did Sega make their own system?

Awesome stuff.
What's up with the graphics pad? What system was that for?

it's the version of megadrive used on board of JAL airline...
it's for the collectors only.

Sega Teradrive. I believe it's some sort of PC (or PC98) compatible that also plays MD games. There's probably more different hardware out there that plays MD games than any other console...unless you count Famiclones.

JAL gets the Megadrive, while ANA gets the Super Famicom? Isn't that a little backwards?

Nice photos! For one thing they point out the difference between the original Wondermega and the hideous redesign we got as the X'Eye. ;) Me wanty Wondermega...

X'Eye is based on Wondermega 2.

Sega released their own version of Wondermega 1 alongside JVC Wondermega 1 - you can tell the difference as Sega version has the white ring around the cd door.

I was never a fan of JAL though when they decided to use KomeKome's song as their campaign song back in 80s I was thrilled as I used to be a big fan of the group. :p

So there's three versions of the Wondermega, then? Odd, I'd always heard there were only two. :/ Learn something new every day...

Sega made MegaDrive and CD add-on and then JVC released a all-in-one unit (WM1). Sega was quite impressed and licensed and released its own version.
JVC went on and released WM2 with wireless pad but minus any Karaoke specific features built into WM1 plus that fancy motorised CD door. :p

later WM2 was chopped into pieces and released in US as X'Eye...

The Teradrive isn't NEC PC-XXXX compatible, it's a DOS computer. Maybe DOS-V. It was pretty well underpowered for the time, though, with a middling 8086 (I think) processor on it. There were three different models, with each higher number being loaded out somewhat better and with a hard drive. It's built by IBM, much better than the Amstrad Mega PC, but the PC side isn't as spectacular. The PC does interface with the MD internals, though, allowing you to use maybe one or two edit features on some lousy puzzle game or other. Think of this as a really early version of that "xbox computer" stuff we've been hearing lately. As the Teradrive shows, it's an old idea.

you can play your MarkIII on your telly via wireless...

The name is (as explained above) the Mark III Telecon Pack. Transmits via "futuristic RF waves," to use NFGman's timeless phrase :)

Nope, all officially released stuff. Those 3D Glasses are just the Mark III equivalent to the Western SMS Glasses.

The Mega Jet is basically a Japanese Mega Drive, specially designed to link to the teeny tiny LCD screens in Japanese airlines. The games slot into the top.

Apparently the airlines would provide a few games onboard, or you could take your own.

And the Wondermega has to be the most gorgeous console ever. The curves and lines... @_@
