9/8/05 edit: Well There are now 39 US DS games available. This includes every game from the 6 launch titles back in nov 04, till the most recently released title Yugioh: nightmare troubadour. Within that release range it also includes all 3 nintendogs and space invaders revolution (a ds game most people didnt realize was released already)
I do not have a complete DS OR psp collection as I lack about 7 titles from the psp still (i have 24/31 titles) and I lack pokemon dash, madden 05, madden 06 from the ds putting me at 36/39 titles.
So to put it simply
31 US psp games total as of 9/8/05
39 US DS games total as of 9/8/05
Do you have a complete set for either?
Original post:
In regards to the PSP US collection, complete means that you have all 29 PSP UMD games released in the US. There are currently only 28 games but coded arms comes out tomorrow so if you are getting that this week just mark yourself as having it. Oh... and roms DO NOT ... DO NOT count.
In regards to the DS US collection, complete means that you own all 30 US released DS games. Metroid prime hunters demo and pictochat do not count as games. However Pingpals does count as a game even though it doesnt really seem like one.
Anyway I'll post in regards to what I have later possibly

im sure at least one person does have a complete collection....but for me, buying all those games right now (most you would have to get at full price, there havent been too many price cuts yet) would just be way to expensive, especially when down the road it will be easy to pick some of them up for $5

Oh, ROMs dont count. LOL
I'd assume that... 8-)
Man, if you want a complete PSP collection then youd have to get all the movies too...now considering every major production studio has a deal to release UMD movies (except Warner Bros. I think) then youd better get a second job!! LOL
I think were gonna see a wave of movies like fanbois flocking to FFVII!!

Well that's why I clarified with 'umd games' As for the no roms comment... I figured I should add it, you'd be surprised things people would say at gamefaqs (maybe you wouldn't be so surprised) if you don't include an (obvious) rule like that.

Ha! I was actually going to say "This isn't GameFAQs." LOL
So anyway, there isn't a very good chance I'll ever try to complete my PSP collection and there is ABSOLUTELY no chance I'll ever desire to complete my DS collection.

I had thought about collecting all the DS games a few months ago. But decided against it for now at least. Sure, it'd be extremely easy to collect them all right now, but it'd be expensive. And in the long run, once games start picking up production, it'd just get overwhelming.
Still, it is a dream. I pick up a good game when I can, and if I see a cheap one down the road, I'll pick it up too. But for now, I'll just get what I want.
As for PSP. Not at $40-$50 I ain't.

I aspire to have a complete PSP collection. As it stands right now I have 9 UMD games (I have 2 movies) I will be getting Coded arms so it will be ten. But honestly I only feel 5 were worth the price I paid for them. So like most of you I'll be waiting to find them on the cheap.
50 bucks for a sports game (MLB) on a portable. no matter how good it is. just isn't worth it IMO.

I had a complete DS collection for a while, but when I had no job I couldn't buy games. Now I am like 9 games short or something. In order to have a complete DS collection though I think the Metroid Prime demo and Zelda trailer should count. Mark my words though, before the summer is done I will have a complete DS collection.
Also, UMD movies shouldn't count for a PSP collection. You can watch DVD's on a PS2 that doesn't mean you need every DVD to have a complete collection. Who knows... maybe UMD players will come out soon.

I have 10 DS games and I would like to have more. I have a problem with spending more then 30 bucks for a portable game. The PSP games are TOO expensive for me to care. I have 1 game and 1 movie for that system and unless there is a killer app for it thats all I'll have because I'm not spending 50 bucks on a portable game and 30 bucks on a movie.

I still have 9 games ;) (plus the 2 movies would make 11 UMDS) LOL
But seriously, I think we (in a much older thread) had a discussion awhile back and someone mentioned that a UMD player wouldn't really work since it was intended for the PSP screen and wouldn't look right on a standerd TV let alone an HDTV.

i dont remember this older thread, but wouldnt it be completely possible for a stand alone umd player to be made that would do some sort of conversion of the media so that it would look alright on a regular television?

It wasn't a thread about UMDs being played on a TV. It was more of a random conversation in a PSP related thread.
and honestly I'm not sure how the upconversion would go. PSP screen Res is 480x272 so all UMD movies are more then likly set at that res. while a standerd tv is 640x400 (I'm kinda estimating it could be less) while HDTV's can go much higher. I can see an upconverter UMD player working well for a standerd TV set but for anything higher I'm not sure it would come out so well.

too many crap games for me to want a complete collection. I have 9 DS games and 4 psp games, I buy only what I want to play.

A few months ago, I sort of wanted to start collecting the DS games (and not opening them). But I figure, its like 40 bucks a game, and if there are 20 or so games (this was a few months ago) that'd be like 800 bucks. And I would much rather spend 800 bucks towards completing my NES collection than the DS. I own a DS, but as far as completing the library goes... not yet.

I'm really surprised no one on these forums has turned up yet as having a complete collection for either system (especially ds)
In regards to myself I will never have a complete collection for either because I dislike most sports games, however, I am very close to 'complete' status.
For DS I have 27 out of the 30 available US DS games. I'm speaking stricly on games alone not promotional items or demos, etc (though I have some of those too). Basically the only games I lack are madden 05, tiger woods golf, and pokemon dash (so i'm pretty much not missing anything)
For PSP I have 22 out of the 29 available US PSP games. That is strictly in regards to the games and not the movies (though I have some movies as well) There are a few more games on psp that I have no interest in at all than there are on DS. The 7 games I lack are world tour soccer, FIFA soccer, NBA, gretzky hockey, tiger woods golf, MVP baseball, and NFL street 2 unleashed (nfl street 2 is the only one of those that I have any interest in)

i'm missing 2 regular release DS games... madden and asphalt. i'll probably pick those up pretty soon here, though i was hoping to hold off on madden until another price drop after 06 comes out.
i don't have the zelda trailer yet though... it's not a top priority at the moment. and i'd still like to track down the kiosk demos, but i haven't seen anyone with those yet.
now, here's something i've been wondering. in terms of having a "complete" DS collection, what happens when nintendogs is released? would one need to get all 3 versions, or (since it's essentially the same game) would just 1 version be considered acceptable by most people? i'm not sure how i feel about this one yet, but i'd like to hear the thoughts of some others.

im not a DS collector, but if i was i would def. see needing all 3 of them for a complete DS set....just like i personally see needing Halo 2 and Halo 2 Limited Collector's Edition in order to have a complete XBox collection....while it is the same game.....i would feel that i would need it to have a complete set
with nintendogs....i dont know much about the game, but it looks like it has different dog types, so, the three do have different data, so they are a little more than just case variants...kinda like all those mega man blue and red and what not games on the GBA

I only have a few at the moment but I would like to have a complete collection of ds games eventually. For now i'm buying the ones I really want but as the prices drop i'll buy some random stuff just to expand the collection.
As for psp I only have 4 games and I probably won't be buying any more for awhile. I'm much more interested in playing nintendo, sega and nec stuff on there.

but all the dog breeds are eventually unlockable in every version... so the end result is the same in all versions, and the objectives are identical, but each version starts you off with different beginning options.
i'm definitely seeing this game as a grey area for collectors...

Well I really can't speak for you, I mean I'd have to go through all your other posts to get a REAL feeling for how you feel about the two systems. As for this thread, I was pointing out your optimism when you speak about the DS and your condemnation when you speak about the PSP. I read it as the following:
Greg: Do you like Flamin Hot Cheetos?
Jasoco: You know, they arent bad. I'm not into hot food but if you wipe some of the hot stuff off them before you eat them then they actually taste like a mildly spicy cheese doodle. I would like them a lot more if they would make them less spicy but to be honest with you, I really dont mind havng to wipe all the stuff off.
Greg: How about Flamin Hot Doritos?
Jasoco: Hell no. I dont like hot food.

So? They have different title names and different packaging. It's just like Pokemon, just because you COULD get all the Pokemon in the Red version, that doesn't take away from the fact that Blue is an entirely different game under a different name. You can only unlock every dog through WiFi, thus normally if you had no one to trade with you would not be able to get all the breeds, which differentiates it enough to count it as it's own game.

but these aren't entirely different games like in pokemon. they're exactly the same except for the dogs you begin with, and i assume the title screen that differentiates which version you have.
You can only unlock every dog through WiFi, thus normally if you had no one to trade with you would not be able to get all the breeds, which differentiates it enough to count it as it's own game.
that's completely incorrect. every game is able to unlock every dog breed without ever connecting to another version. in the game, you earn points for things, and with enough points, each new breed can be purchased. connecting with another version just makes the process easier.

Each version has different items though, like in the dachshund version you can get a little miniature mario kart item while in the chihuahua version you get a koopa kart and in the lab version you get peachs kart. There are other exclusive items too.

Well I already had all the ones I intended paying full price for. I had no intention of getting madden 2005, and tiger woods golf though, and was gonna wait for a price drop on pokemon dash.
I ended up buying tiger woods golf though cause I found a new copy mega cheap. That means all I lack are madden 05 and pokemon dash, and I only intend to get pokemon dash someday of those two.

Bumping this to the top, 39 games available now in the US up to the most recent release yugioh and including space invaders revolution (hard to find)
Anyway I dont have a complete collection but have 36/39 US ds games.
I lack the following...
Madden 05
Madden 06
Pokemon dash
As far as im concerned once I get pokemon dash my collection is as good as it will get till more games come out. No one cares about the DS maddens, they arent rare and arent worthy of my collection unless they hit 10 dollars or less (new)
I will eventually own a complete PSP library.....at least that's the overall plan. Get in while it's new. (I have a gut feeling that the system won't be around forever. I don't know why....but I just get that feeling.) Any of the games that I can't see myself playing alot I've planned to buy used, so there'll be some waiting until they show up.

I believe Gunstar Hero UK has to be close to a full collection of DS games by now.
I briefly considered doing this, but there are too many DS games that I don't want to spend money on. I generall buy one new DS game a month (except for the rare occassion when two come out in the same month that I really, really want), with the most recent being Advance Wars. That way, I have a good month to finish my current game, and decide what to get next. It's worked out well so far, and I'm up to 12 games or so.

As of 9/29/05 there are not 46 DS games in the US and 39 PSP games in the US. The most recent PSP release is frogger, The most recent DS release is also *gasp* frogger (lol)
Anyway I am sitting at 29/39 PSP games now, and 44/46 DS games
The only PSP games Im missing are some sports games and world series poker (which i have for xbox) So I am not concerned about getting any of the psp games I lack, As for DS I am only missing madden 2005 and madden 2006 - neither of which I want for more than 15 dollars.

and i'm very open to most games. i'm willing to at least try them before passing judgment. and honestly, so far, the only game that i think is "utter crap" is ping pals. all the others have SOMETHING redeeming.

Well the PSP now has 51 US released games for it and the DS has 59 US release games (counting nintendogs:best friends packaged only with the limited edition teal DS)
I've kinda slowed down a bit on both psp and ds falling behind a bit in anticipation for the 360 and also with all the great deals at toysrus last week.
I'm sitting at 31/51 psp games, and 52/59 DS games (i have nintendogs: best friends now as well which is part of that 59)
The 7 DS games that I DONT own are -
madden 05, madden 06, FIFA 06, marvel nemesis, sims 2, scooby doo, and shrek super slam

Honestly, PSP has the worst library of any console I have ever owned at this point. There is literally not a single game that I feel is a must have. Even Game.com had a pretty amazing port of RE2 at the time. DS has tons of must haves. Sony really needs to step it up. I love the look and feel of the PSP, but the software library is a joke.

When the DS first came out, I had an idea to start collecting all of the games. I didn't (because I'd prefer if my money went into NES) and I'm pretty happy about my decision.
The only thing is, I would have bought most of the games when they first came out... and then 3 months later, I would have seen all the games that I bought for 39.99 on sale for 14.99. That's when I'd kill myself.
Ah well,
good work for the guys that have it completed. :)

I'm also started collecting DS, but I won't buy everything now, especially the third-party releases tend to go down in price fast. I will never buy EA games fullprice as they will go damn cheap after two years anyway. I currently own 9 or 10 carts including the Yoshi Touch and Go and Metroid demos. All games I like a lot. There are still a few I want to pick up soon, but most games I wait till they are under 15 euro and most games are still widely available. The only games I think are harder to find in the European version are Space Invaders Revolution (I see the USA-version more often) and Ping Pals. I bought Space Invaders yet, and I hope and think that Ping Pals will be dumped soon just like Sprung. Anyway I love my DS, in fact it's the system I bought most games for since the Dreamcast. PS2, Xbox and Cube never relly caught me and the DS did.

Well I am at 31/53 for the PSP now on US releases. I agree with the people that say the PSP release lineup thus far isnt that impressive. They had a great start imo but lately the games just dont seem to have much of a draw going for em. I mean ghost in the shell is one i wanna get eventually but others like the hustle and the con look mediocre.
On the flipside DS had a weak lineup early on imo, but has an amazing portable lineup going for it now. I 'm glad I stuck it out with my stronger focus on the DS over the PSP. I'm sitting at 58/ 62 US DS games now. My personal numbers for a complete library do not include the metroid demo, the zelda trailer, or the walmart variants, I do however include the nintendogs: best friend version as that is a full version of a game.
I still lack madden 05, madden 06, and fifa 06 (big shock, im not a big sports gamer) and I also lack the incredibles which I do intend to pickup in the next month or so.
Edit: forgot to include I do have the nintendogs: best friends as well, I got it since my previous post in this thread. For those that MIGHT not know nintendogs: best friends can only be obtained within the limited edition teal or pink DS bundle. Nintendogs best friends basically has the most popular starting breeds from the other 3 versions. Sadly it has no new exclusive items though and only has the exclusive items from dachschund and friends.

Does it come in a regulat DS case or a paper like the MP:H demo?

It comes in the cardboard case like the metroid demo. It comes with the instruction manual (the same manual found in the other 3 nintendogs) and one of those registration cards to register the game at nintendo.com

these next 2 weeks are going to hurt. there's like 9 games scheduled to release this week, and 12 for next week. hopefully some of those have actually been pushed back.

between now and 12/6/05 there are 26 more DS games coming out >< indeed it will be hard, i'm gonna put DS on hold for a bit so I can divert some focus to 360 early on then transfer some focus back to the DS and psp and older consoles.
