this game has been both highly anticipated and delayed to a degree that rivals a Working Designs game. will this collection see light in the US and what is the hold up?

Research shows that it hasn't been cancelled yet...I'd think translation would be the only hold up, but I'm sure that's not the case.

Well, Phantasy Star IV isn't even out in Japan yet, last I heard. Hell, II just came out like a month and a half ago.

There was a thread just like this about a month ago....can't find it in the search. ANyway, IV isn't even out in Japan yet, and we won't get the trilogy until after that. My guess is IV will come out in Japan in August or fall some time.
I doubt it is cancelled.

if sega had half a brain, they would take back the rights to it, and release it as part of a special edition with Phantasy Star Universe
Wasn't Conspiracy Entertainment supposed to publish that game? They haven't released any games in a few years.
I have Phantasy Star Collection for the GBA, so I personally have no reason to buy Phantasy Star Trilogy if it ever actually comes out. Isn't it basically "revised" versions of the original PS games? Judging from what I've seen of the "revisions" in Sega Classics Collection, you'd do much better to stick with the originals.

I am glad to hear that this game has not been cancelled yet, but I am not going to hold my breath. While I agree that the Sega Classics collection sucked, I think that the Phantasy Star Collection looked alot better. I also agree that Sega does not have a clue...

with rpgs, these types of improvements are very helpful as there arent any gameplay elements that require precise control. graphic updates of rpgs have for the most part been very positive, and i would think phantasy star with the right treatment would also greatly benefit.

I missed the boat on this one. Which three games are going to be in the Trilogy? What I really am asking is are we finally going to get a reissue of 4?

the package is going to be PSI, II, and IV
honestly IV worries me the most, the techno music can take a major hit in quality if special care isnt taken

It makes me mad to see Phantasy Star IV excluded from some of the collections. To me that was the best one and the only collection I have ever seen it in is the one for Sega Saturn. I still remember when PS4 was first released, the sucker was $100. Luckily, I found a decently priced used one just recently.

The screenshots and reviews for the PS games allready released in Japan are encourging. I think the remakes of all three games will be top notch and I can't wait for it to come out. :)

Sega took back the rights to this title along with the Sega Ages lineup for America, so it's already been done chrisbid.

So, what's the latest news? EB hasn't canceled my pre-order, but I noticed that it no longer shows up on their site when you search.
I've seen it listed at 9/1 and 12/31 on two different sites. Looks like it was pretty much finished. Surely SOMEONE will release it?
Anybody have any new info?

I'm sure more information will become available once the games are done. Hell, I really wonder how far they are into translating Phantasy Star 1 right now...if they've even begin. Can't wait to see the Phantasy Star IV port/remake.. the first two games are quite awesome on PS2 (and the inclusion of the original Phantasy Star 2 on the PS2 disc gives me even higher hopes for the Phantasy Star IV disc)

Well, I just got the newest EGM today, and there is a tiny tidbit in there saying that it was not cancelled but was on the cusp. Also mentions that it still is not out in Japan...

Well, Bare Knuckle, Alex Kidd, and Phantasy Star IV are missing on sega.co.jp's release list (http://www.sega.co.jp/ps2/home.html), but Last Bronx is still on there....which i believe are the last 4 titles originaly announced when they first announced the 3d Sega Ages series that have yet to come out.
That's not good news.
They did update with all of their recently announced collections (Space Harrier, System16, Galaxy Force II, Panzer Dragoon, Dynamite Deka, and motherfucking Advanced Daisenryaku (Saturn remake released in the US as Iron Storm) along with a few others)...so...yea...not good.
You might be stuck importing Phantasy Star I and II, but hey.. Dragon Force just came out as well, and the premuim collection comes with a soundtrack and such. :) (but for $90...so..uh..yea....no)

I've thought about going that route... Does anyone know if they have English options available in the game? Hey, a guy can hope, can't he?

Sorry, no english options and there's some changes in the actual quests from the originals to the remakes, so you'll have to find an updated walkthrough (or use this opportunity as a springboard to learn some japanese :) )

What I can't figure out is why we only get trilogys. PS Collection only features I, II and III, and now this one only has I, II and IV.
I mean how hard would it be to put one extra game on a disc to make a complete collection?

I don't know why IV wasn't included in the GBA collection, space issues maybe? Prehaps Sega toyed with the idea of releasing the game seperately? Dunno.
But III's not part of the PS2 collection because the company doing these in Japan felt the game wasn't popular enough to warrant a complete makeover. Seeing as how the games are being sold indivually over there, it would be silly to waste time on III, delaying the release of IV when it most likely won't even sell very well. It's not as if Sega Ages had released the game in Japan and conspiracy simply axed it out of the American collection.

IV was too big to fit on Phantasy Star Collection :)

They're not even remaking the 3rd one, that's why you won't get it. And you won't see the trilogy until End of the Millenium is remade and released in Japan... which won't be for a while. Sega has basically redone their Sega Ages series which definitely didn't speed anything up.

I was pretty pissed the other day when I saw PSIV and Alex Kidd mising from the release schedule.
That fucking blows....we can only hope and pray for them now.
How goddamn hard can it be to redo Alex Kidd?!
