I'll be there.

Of course, last night I busted out my MAME discs and loaded up DK Jr. to prep for the contest.

Last time, I prepped for about a week on Burgertime. I remembered Burgertime as a game that was a little bit fun, but not terrific. I had enough fun practicing though, and nearly took the prize. (And I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for that meddling Dave!)

So, this week it's Donkey Kong, Jr. I remember DK Jr the same way - a so-so game, not bad, not great. Once I got MAME installed, remembered the command line syntax to get it going, and copied the ROM to my drive, I loaded it up and plugged in 15 credits. By the second or third game, I was bored, and hadn't even completed the first screen. After five or 6 games I'd made it to the second screen once and my high score was almost 5000. I was still very bored.

I think I gave up after 7 or 8 games. I loaded up Rally X and played that for about an hour.

I'll give it a whirl this weekend, but last night with my CX-40 and laptop are probably going to end up being more time spent with the game than I'll spend on it again.

BTW, to anybody else going this weekend - I'm looking for a working Genesis 2, in case you're aching to unload one.

UPDATE

-If you didn't get an e-mail invite, PM me with your e-mail address and I will forward the directions. We love to have newcomers...that means new trades :)

-Speaking of trades, I have a bunch of stuff that I was about to put on ebay that I will hold onto for the event. This includes 90% of my Saturn collection (I'm getting out of the Saturn business). I also have a big pile of free stuff...yeah it's junk, but it's *free* junk.

-As Steve mentioned there will be a Donkey Kong Jr. contest. Highest score on the MAME box by 10:00 wins a Supercade book.

-Since a couple of you asked, the house is pet free and smoke free (although I will gladly join you for a smoke on the back deck). Bring your own beverage, I usually provide pizza but if it's a nice enough day I'll pick up burgers and dogs for the grill. Adults only.

-If you have any good multiplayer Dreamcast or Gamecube games, bring them along. I've set up a rather interesting 4-player DC area. Also, I'm on the lookout for Bomberman Online if anyone has one to bring along (or sell or trade).

-If you've been thinking about coming, come to this one! The fall schedule already looks pretty packed, it might be a while before I have another one of these.

Turns out there is a "nude code" for Plumbers Don't Wear Ties... and the max score is -170,000.

That's right, NEGATIVE 170,000!

Thanks for the invite, hope to do it again soon.
