News from www.psphacks.com

The moment you have all been waiting for.. Team Xecuter has announced that they have created a PSPX Mass Storage Converter mod that also allows downgrading of firmware. It gets even better, this mod allows mass storage via Smart Media Cards, Compact Flash Cards, USB Flash Drives, and even USB HDD’s. Check out what they had to say on their page:

For some time now we have been working hard on a PSP hack. If you remember we never said it was a modchip or anything that could boot dumped games or homebrew (currently you have psp-dev and the WAB team to thank for these breakthroughs). In fact what we designed was our own development hardware to tap into every aspect of the PSP, from the Memory Stick port through to its NAND flash memory and infrastructure.

As there are more and more homebrew applications and games and other exciting developments within the growing PSP scene there is obviousley a need for more storage - and with that comes a heavy price. The cost of a 2Gb DUO memory stick can cost over $400 !

However, what if you could use a Smart Media Card, Compact Flash Card, SD Card, USB Flash Drive or even a USB HDD !

Well it's possible. We are developing a simple plug in device where you can expand the PSP Memory Stick Port to connect to several other memory devices, thus saving massive costs and giving you a multitude of storage options for your PSP no matter what you wish to play with be it games, web browsers, ebooks, music players, media managers and much more !

Using this same development kit we have been able to downgrade v1.52 / v1.51 down to v1.50 or even a v1.00 with no problems whatsoever. We can also tell you its easily possible to patch the kernel to be able to boot anything you like without any type of software loader. It can be acheived in both a modchip AND a non-modchip form so no doubt teams like WAB and others will have solutions for you in the coming weeks as the methods to achieve this are indeed known by others - we are simply confirming its very possible. Before anyone makes a rumour - no Xecuter is not doing any form of modchip for the PSP - it will be a waste of time as every patch can be achieved without the need for this. However maybe certain dealers will have capabilities to downgrade your PSP firmware for you - or to repair PSP's damaged by the over zealous hacker - who knows ?

On a final note good luck to teams like WAB and PSP-DEV - they are worth supporting.

Who has a good cheap source for the 1 GB Memory Pro Duo? Best Buy has a hook to hang them on with a listed price of $119 but they always seem to be out of stock, and I'm getting fed up. I'd like to buy one online and be done with it.

eBay is the cheapest I have seen. You can get one there for about $100 shipped.

Buy.com has them for about $100 as well.

Thanks guys. I'd trust Buy.com a little more than eBay in this case, so that's what I'll do. Can't wait to upload some more emulators and movies to a GB, cause 512 isn't cutting it now that the PSP has been hacked up like a side of beef with some ginsu knives. :D

Just one more question though - buy.com has both a 1 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo and a gaming Memory Stick Pro Duo, only the latter costs $10 more. Is there really any difference? Will the former not work in my PSP?

They'll both work fine. I' honestly not sure if there's a difference, but if it says Pro Duo it wil work. The gamig stick may have slightly faster access time or something, but more importantly it's in the awesome GAMING YELLOW color!

From my understanding the "Pro" Series of sony memory sticks have twice the accsess speed as the normal memory cards and the gaming cards are pretty neon colors.

It really dosen't matter much to the PSP at all though so go for the cheaper one.

That part about the firmware being downgradable, joystiq.com is reporting that to be a rumor. I dunno.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see anywhere instructions on HOW to do the downgrade. I see mention of a "kit" What Kit? Where do I get it? How much does it cost? Can we skip the "kit" and just have software to do it? I don't see any info!!

I do NOT want to have to ship it to someone. I just want to do it from the comfort of home without worry of the mail man losing my PSP.

Edit: Now I've found a thread with a link. But WHAT THE FUCK?
"Im sorry this site is only compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer on Windows."
WHAT THE HELL COULD MAKE IT WINDOWS ONLY? Idiots!

WHAT. THE. FUCK?

This pisses me off to no end. NO END AT ALL!

The kit hasn't been released. At this point they're just hyping it up. Now they say they discovered HOW to downgrade, but aren't releasing that, just the media adapter. Whatever, I'll believe it when I see it. That goes for all of this BS.

If you don't believe emulation works on PSP, I'll take a short video clip with my Canon to demonstrate. I was a "see it to believe it guy" myself when the first DP pics showed up, but man it's sweet now that I'm using it on my own.
